INFO: Periphery is an american progressive rock band formed in Washington D.C. in 2005. Over the years the band has proved to be one of the prime movers of the so called djent genre, although many would simply label them progressive metal or progressive metalcore. The band has released six studio albums and all of them were self-produced by the band members themselves. Their latest album Periphery IV: Hail Stan just released earlier this month and they’ve become quite creative with their video uploads. There’s a full documentary about the album’s creative and recording process on their youtube channel. And more than that, they also run their own label now. In this video we’ll talk about their discography, band members and a few background stories to get you up to date with the band

Djent was indeed influenced by Meshuggah but also the far lesser known Sikth, especially when it comes to the style that Periphery performs.
Also Misha used to play in a band with Tosin Abasi and the founder of Sumerian Records Ash Avildsen. Jake Bowen is John Petrucci's nephew by the way.

The old days of Sevenstring.org were amazing. I remember stumbling upon Misha's work and being enamored by his writing, and I've followed them ever since. It's been a long time since 2008.

An important fact is that Jake Bowen is John Petrucci's nephew. I'm not saying John pushed their careers they are awesome anyway. I just found that fact interesting. To hear them play together is very cool. There's a video where they interview each other and they talk about being related. John taught Jake some but Jake is naturally talented.

Four Seconds Ago was created during their time with working on Periphery IV (Jake and Misha were inspired); Haunted Shores lives on spiritually through Periphery, with instrumentals being reused on Periphery albums; Periphery is just an evolution of Bulb (think of Misha as one Power Ranger; Megazord = Periphery).

I've seen them live, small venue so I could really look and take note on their performance.
    It was great.
Loud, started out with scarlet.... went through their new album, not stan but last one.....
I think they are talented, and treat their fans right. Aka free music and will drop albums for all to listen not immediately buy.

I personally was shocked by Hail Stan. Wasn't big on past albums at all, which is funny since prog metalcore / djent / prog in general's my favorite genre. My favorite band, Erra's, a prog metalcore/djent band, I love Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, Vildhjarta, Invent Animate, Animals as Leaders, Chon, etc. Yet new Periphery. Hail Stan was fantastic. I reviewed it and it actually ended up getting a 9/10. Fantastic fucking album. :)

Understanding Northlane man... They have a pretty simple history, but I feel as if some fans won't be familiar with the fact that they managed to re-earn the love of their fans back after switching their vocalist and sound at the height of their career.
From what I remember, Northlane picked the most controversial vocalist (Marcus, at the time) over many other fan favorite vocalists and this caused a lot of backlash in their community because they hosted the audition performances publicly. Although he provided a completely different sound, I and many others were blown away by the sheer incredible versatility and improvement in his vocal performances and quickly become idolized and respected for his talent.
