We had ROUGH SEAS on the way to our SAFE HARBOR (Navarre, Florida)

- Опубліковано 23 січ 2024
- Today we are leaving our beautiful anchorage in the Gulf Islands National Seashore. I woke up by dolphins and birds; there's not much better! Unfortunately, the wind has been howling, and to get to a safe harbor for the real blow, we have to cross one large inlet. Wind and weather are all about direction, and unfortunately, the wind is blowing across the Gulf of Mexico, leading to large swells right where we have to cruise! We made a plan to get through with our sanity intact... let's see how it goes.
Thanks for watching!
Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
Thank you for following us along our journey!

Thank you for watching! This video was filmed on December 29th.
The look on Jenn’s face (I can SO relate to the fear and tension), Ollie shaking, Elliot’s superb control and calming reassurance at the helm, and finally the dolphins letting you know that you’ve conquered yet another milestone - real suspense, and real boat life. We’re nearing the end, but you’re still delivering great stories. 👍🥰
Thanks so much, Kari!! We are all on one team, and our goal is to enjoy it. Sometimes we have to deal with situations like these, but thats all part of boat life. Highs and Lows! Fortunately we mitigated it as much as possible and all went according to plan 😁
As someone who also has anxiety, I appreciate Jen showing her honest worries to all of us followers.
Thanks! We always just try to keep it real, showing the lows with the highs! All being said, its always worse in the moment 🙏
Loved seeing the dolphins. Ollie wants to be right there in front seeing them also.
You brought a lot of great memories about boating those waters for many years. At age 90, I have followed you all the way around the loop. Thank you
Thank you for following along, Harold. We appreciate it!
Proud of you Jen for working through your fear and anxiety.
Thank you so much, Nancy ❤️
Pensacola native here.
Y’all cracked me up saying “Navarre”.
Locals call it Nah-varr lol
That was scary but Elliot his calm and collected pants on so it’s all good. … Near the end……but I’m still having fun watching. Can’t we do it again?
I know right! Someday we need to go back around, using all the details we learned the first time 😁
I teared up watching Jenn upset…I would have been upset just like her! I’m glad everything went well for you all!
Holy Cow 🐮!
Awesome video... l would be anxious too Jenn but u did very well... 🐬 Dolphins were awesome....
I hated seeing you so scared but loved hearing the excitement in your voice over the dolphins. ❤
Omg the dolphins took my breath away! What an adventure I would be so seasick so its nice to watch from my couch lol
haha fortunately seasickness was few and far between 😂 thanks Jess!
Seeing dolphin just never gets old!
💯💯💯
Jay here.Great job getting through that Jen.Elliot you the man to get Pivot through all those nasty seas. You guys are getting ready to enter some really beautiful areas in Florida.Especially near Panama City.Big beautiful bays that are all calm and protected. We boated there many years
Right on! The gulf coast is stunning.
It's just "nah-vaar", no "ay" on the end. Used to live there. Wish I was back there.
Thanks for the info! It's such a beautiful place
@@SchoandJo This poster is correct. I live here now and it's awesome. I mean, it sucks really bad and no one else should ever come to live here. You can come to visit if you stay less than a week. LOL!!!!! We did have some crazy weather for a few days but this is our winter so I will take it. Have fun!!
I would have all the same emotions, Jenn. I am an avid boater but waves and weather scare the 💩 out of me. But those dolphins!! Im with Ollie - Bow wow WOW!
Haha! The dolphins knew we could use some care crossing that inlet 😁 Love them!
I wish Jenn and Ollie would do a real time update
Ollie is the dog though. 😂
Fantastic! I have watched your journey from the very beginning. I have been curious what are your favorite looper channels?
Thanks for following along! We like many, but top of mind are Stay Cool, On Fire Family, The Boomershines, MV Grand Plan, and What Yacht to Do (in no particular order) 😁
I can't wait to get back on the water. Restless is on the hard for the winter in upstate New York getting some much needed upgrades!
Nice! Good luck on the upgrades!
I love big waves when I am alone. They have a way of keeping you focused and all your other worries disappear. I get back to port and wobble around on the dock like a drunken sailor. Not a drop of alcohol...just adrenaline.💩
Just wow. Dolphins!!!
Seriously! They have been fantastic on the Gulf Coast so far 🐬
The stretch of water from Pcola to the “narrows” around Hurlburt Field can blow up pretty bad. Even though it’s the GCICW it’s wide open space. I’ve had my butt handed to me out there a couple of times.
The dolphins were a reward for the very stressful passage.
Absolutely!
Prepare to be "corrected" on your pronunciation of Navarre. Juana's is awesome. Great memories there. Really enjoy your content.
Thanks for watching!
You would think she wouldn’t be nervous of a little ruff waves after completing the loop
👍
Hope the videos don’t stop when you complete the loop.
They wont!
Wow, first few comments are y’all taking a beating on pronouncing Navarreeeeeeee. 😊 Good ride out. Beam seas would have been very tough. Occasionally a single shot of brandy or tequila can make a rough ride a little calmer. Following your excellent example, I am naming my two Blue Perkins Diesels - Jake and Elwood. My Blues Brothers. Thanks for the tip!
A mission from God !
As you wrap up your loop I am very curious as to your post Loop -Pivot…
Thanks Jim! We are excited about it too 😁
Some people are idiots but you two are awesome...very proud of you both !!!!
Thanks so much!
You have to just roll with it when it gets nautical out. Its part of the journey.
"roll" with it, good pun!
Cheers, I am currently in Reno Beach, Ohio, and planning to engage in America's Great Loop.
This past month I took a road trip to Texas. My hair got fried and was so gnarly...
How do you manage your hair out there??
Nice, good luck starting America's Great Loop! Honestly, don't think we can help too much with hair, much of our hair was crazy throughout the trip 😂
Jenn would not have done very well if she had joined the Coast Guard. Those kind of waves were mild for conditions we often faced while underway. That was as we would say, was a "Great Coast Guard kind of day." This is a pretty part of the Florida Gulf Coast.
The gulf coast is super pretty, and the dolphins help 😁
Coast Guards boats don’t have as much top hamper as Pivot. Yachtsmen have to go with faith and purpose, and oftentimes short experience, she was very brave!
Also in my limited experience Ive never had dolphins run us aground.
When you punch 40 foot sets on a 80 footer for 3 days you no surf's up .when you meet a boat half your size that was out there to your humbled. 🥺
"Recovery?" Have you been sick? I must've missed that. Hope you feel better.
Thanks for the wishes! Mainly just a cold after the holidays... 🙏
Jenn, when did you get your nose job? Looks great!
No nose job, but thanks for the compliment 😁
trade her in. in the next port of call
What?
So how do you rate doing the loop so far? I’m still in the dreaming stage. You guys seem a bit burnt out in this one.
We'd give the loop a 10/10 rating, but you have to have the right mindset. Its not a vacation, rather an adventure and its a test of perseverance, showing up each and every day! While we had burn out sometimes for sure, I think mainly Elliot was just dealing with a holidays sickness haha, and that combined with a rough section of water was meh!
You don’t pronounce the “E” on the end of Navarre. It’s just “Navarr” , one of my customers has a condo there that I stayed in while my leg was broken. There’s a toll bridge that you pay to go back & forth to the mainland on. There’s no other way besides going by Boat. The residents have a annual fee & have a little sticker for their windshields that a card reader picks up.
Oh, that's super interesting, thanks for sharing!
What your doing is real boating. Hard work, getting dirty and enjoy it when leisure time comes around.
Being a rich B and having slaves catering to you and cleaners and cooks and a captain driving the boat, isn't real boating. Their idea of a serious problem is if a huge wave tips over their wine glass.
You guys and your looper friends are real boaters. Plus helping each other with grounding and mechanical issues.
Open water, rough seas, walking around the rail and no life jacket. Admit thats dumb.
We stayed inside during the rough seas, but life jackets would have made sense!
Navarre is pronounced Na Var.
👍
What a scarty cat! Stick to land travel.
Says the person on their couch lol
Says a former Naval officer, cruised the Caribbean for three years and have a trans-Atlantic under my belt. Been out there...@@SchoandJo
@@user-ln4ow9li9e You cannot tell me that your fellow officers approve of you acting like a childish shill, insulting your fellow Americans. That would be an insult to the uniform. You are neither an officer nor a gentleman.
Not all people like rough seas. Please be respectful of each individual's tolerance and definition for what they are comfortable with.
