We are. Totally fly-by-wire. Each engine has almost double the shaft horsepower of the original CH-53E. Although it looks similar, there is no commonality with the 53's of old.

Maybe it’s time the US cut it’s defense spending by pulling out of NATO. No more troops in Europe, no more bases in Europe, no missile defense systems in Europe either.
I'm not sure why they went with the Navy's E model idea of big sponsons instead of the Marine Corps main and aux tanks E model for the design of the K.
bc1969214 Probably because the E models couldn't fly with both maximum payload and maximum fuel. You'd be about 10k lbs over mtow. You could lift big things or go a long way. The Kilo model, however, as a result of experience with the legacy 53s, has been beefed up structurally so that it can carry maximum fuel and payload at the same time. The CH-53E can lift just as much as the Kilo, but the Kilo can lift it way higher and farther.
You can tell it's a K besides the rotor tips by the lack of windows at the bottom of the cockpit and the EAPS (air particle separators on the front of the engines) are different looking.
That was the gentlest landing with a 53 I have even seen or experienced.
