Only thing that disappointed me about the review was the skipped scene where Reese talks about how you have to learn to shut of your feelings in order to survive. To become a "human machine" as it were. The fact that despite this he is still capable of simple human emotions like love is what help set this film apart form many of its contemporaries. If the Terminator was a satire of the emotionless so called hero and "ideal" man, then Reese shows whats important to a man is NOT the ability to do violence, though he does have that, but that ability to care for others and to NOT be afraid to show ones emotions.
Oddly enough, I actually watched this movie last night with my good lady wife and we still love it. It's not as good as Terminator 2, but for a movie that's over thirty years old, it's still a great movie. Nice review Chuck, looking forward to the rest.
Just an FYI, SF has a great website. Hopefully he'll upload all his stuff here eventually but you should check it out. The Star Wars reviews are wonderful. SF, keep it up man.
Antony C The special edition dvd shows some of his paintings in the making of. I don’t remember if that specific painting was in there but some others like the top half of the terminator crawl after Sarah was and it looks fairly close to the final film.
I noticed the new site seems to stop/start a lot. I'm guessing that it's because instead of the server serving one large video file, it's serving a lot of tiny ones? Does anyone else find this a problem?
Is there anyway you could post the rest here? My laptop is 7yrs old and the stream is shite. I usually download long videos I want to watch (personal use only - you can check my page, I never re-post), because it's just painful otherwise. Also, I like to watch/listen to your videos at work when I don't have access to internet videos at all. (Totally blocked and I can't use up the internet on my phone for that.) I used to download your videos from blip. Hell your Dune one is permanently on my phone because I like it so much. (Looking forward to the SciFi Channel version you said was coming.) So is there anyway you could put the rest up? If not here, elsewhere? (JWPlayer locks EVERYTHING down.) Not everyone is out to scam and steal. Some just like re-watching videos without using up our data. Thx.
One thing that I always found unintentionally funny about Terminator was, if he can have any voice he wants, and also be perfectly emotive while using those voices, why is his 'default' voice a weird emotionless super-thick austrian accent?
+Zidana123 I think they just record and replay the other voices, whereas the emotionless voice is his default. It's ok for the short time he needs to get into range for humans. Skynet was in the middle of a losing war, having destroyed most everything around it, so it can be forgiven that it wasn't doing a better job. I can't remember what year it kicked off in the original? 1990? The skin jobs were very recent in any case. Maybe Skynet captured someone who looked like him, figured the oddness would make him less like the other terminators (who had rubber skin), recorded voice samples, worked out speech patterns, and printed him off as best as it could.
He can't be just recording and then replaying spliced audio clips he's heard in order to imitate voices though. For one thing, he uses original vocabulary he's never heard them say (John Conner never says Woofy), and two, he says them while emoting in ways he's never heard them use (the police cop whose voice he imitates in T1 was panicked in the Terminator's presence, but laster when the Terminator imitates his voice he sounds calm). The only explanation is he's got some kind of speech synthesizer that can digitally create new sounds based on samples he's heard.
Zidana123.. In the timeline he's going to, infiltrate, using a disguise, it could have been any accent or language. He is a big model, the series could be varied:defult;timeline:\enter- [character select identified based on detailed files/RAM/ROM/Download completed]: online
i admit I'm not familiar with "The Outer Limits" episodes but I do an opinion of James Camerons' writing... namely that he's not very good at it. I'm more than willing to believe Ellison was justly compensated for his work.
Asher8328 I watched those episodes and while there are some similar elements they are totally different stories. Normally they probably would have been able to win the case easily but James made that comment in a written interview and there you go. It’s telling that there’s no continued acknowledgement for Harlan Ellison on the rest of the franchise.
If Cameron went with OJ then he would have had no choice but, to make Sarah Conner and Kyle Reese black to avoid any racial issues that could arise from the movie itself
+JaredThaJa *I used to be like most people who thought OJ did it. But I then I got educated.* What does that even mean? He was found unanimously liable at the civil trial and had to pay nearly 34 million in damages.
Well, what's a little creepy to me is that, from what I gathered, John Conner was a very much a father-figure to Reese. By this logic, Sarah was a Grandmother figure to him. So...
That O-JAY joke.... Priceless.
"And hell, I know there's at least twelve people who agreed with him." Nice!

That OJ joke...
...WOW.
It's then funny how that's exactly what OJ did in real life; hunted down and killed a white woman; his ex-wife Nicole Brown, just 10 years later.
Oddly enough, I actually watched this movie last night with my good lady wife and we still love it. It's not as good as Terminator 2, but for a movie that's over thirty years old, it's still a great movie.

Looking forward to part two. I guess you could say that I'LL BE BACK!
Weird, I just watched Terminator 1 and 2 again for the first time in like a decade last week.
Just an FYI, SF has a great website. Hopefully he'll upload all his stuff here eventually but you should check it out. The Star Wars reviews are wonderful.
SF, keep it up man.
Speaking of robots, I was just wondering, is there that review of the Mobile Suit Gundam movies that you mentioned a while back still on the cards?
+KatayokoNoTenshi You think he's going to cover all 3 Compilation films?
This is fascinating! Does Mr. Cameron's drawing of the terminator still exist?

One person liked Parana II: The Spawning. That poor miserable bastard.

Keep doing this. I want all the documentary material on youtube

Is there some way you could make the videos on your website work on mobile, or does that hoster really only support flash?
Was the follow up video ever released?
Man… Arnold in his prime has the kind of physique Greek gods dream of having…..

the effects guy from the star wars holiday special lol
"These OJ Simpson, looks to nice i would say"
Wait, why not an italian?

I used to be like most people who thought OJ did it. But I then I got educated.
+JaredThaJa I heard it was his son, actually. I know nothing beyond that rumour.
+JaredThaJa Well he did write a book called "If I did it."

One of many reasons I oppose Civil Courts being involved in such matters.
JaredThaJa Not an argument.
OJ a killer ? ... naaaw
Man, Reese IS kinda creepy when you think about it. Sarah Conner was basically his waifu.
+Zidana123 He's kinda a Forrest Gump with combat training ... like Forrest Gump, actually.
