🎶 SHE DO THE WALK FOR US
MAKE HER ONE OF US 🎵
She said she learned going to black school were she was a cheerleader with black girls.
Lily in 1972: ”This is not gonna make any sense to you."
Us in 2023: "That's the sturdy!"
She said that cos she was ahead of her time
Lily got sturdy, ATE and left not a single crumb 😤🔥🔥🔥
I like how the most popular drill rap dance of the moment is based on cheerleader act💀
Well they all do it in unison
That dance would have been done 1000s of years b4 that
@@slingshotdon doubt
@@l.v1473 lol definitely it's a squat and kick out not overly complicated humans have been dancing to music for 1000s of years. There's the Russian dance African tribal dance I could go on....music is at the very least ,been an established human trait for 35 thousand years dancing goes with that!
Definitley not
At about the 3:30 mark, a friend and I stopped the show. Sort of. We are from Detroit. And so is Lily. We were hoping she would mention it so we could clap from the balcony. She finally did and we clapped. Right after the taping of the show we flew back to Detroit where we heard our "cameo" appearance on THE DICK CAVETT SHOW when it came on the air at 11:30 PM. I can't believe I found this clip on You Tube!
I HEAR IT :) , that's super cool!
Thats awesome! Thank you for the story. I had no idea she was from Detroit too.
Cool story Ralph

@@pitbull1996 booo 🤓
Getting what?
SHE ATE
@@pitbull1996 according to another comment somewhere, she learned it from a black school, so it is probably actually called "sturdy" in the first place. Also u say they had a name for it, but u dont know, dont u?
Anybody else here because of the sturdy dance?
Yes bruhv , I put baroque style drill music over her dance segment
Way too sturdy 🥶🥶🥶
Me

That suit is timeless. I love the rainbow butterfly on the back of the jacket.

@@buddhafortune6166 do you live in a disco museum?

When I was a little kid, I used to have a weird crush on Lilly Tomlin.
And now I know why!
She gorgeous
So did I. I really miss the 70s man.
Lilly Tomlin Carrie Fisher Sigourney Weaver… what a time man
That shimmering huge butterfly at the back of Lily Tomlin's jacket, love it!
Lily is an American Icon and a comedic genius!
Loved her in The Incredible Shrinking Woman and 9-5.
Same here..I was born in 1973 n me n my younger brother watched those movies so many times we knew every line. All 3 women were amazing in 9-5 .I'm trying to remember the line"Lying, hypocritical, egotistical bigot" to Mr.Hart😂😂😂
Lily had the most beautiful laughing eyes.
The year 2022. And hip-hop music has made this dance iconic... She is now more famous than she was when she was the the telephone operator Lili Thompson
Or the voice of Miss Frizzle
4:43 That's Detroit Jittin right there!! Check out the footwork. That woman from the Eastside!!!
Lol I think it was called the jitterbug back then
Think she's the one that used to do "One ringy dingy... Two ringy dingy" She still moved well. She's 80 now.
I think Lily is beautiful outside and insight, she has this light in her eyes and a wonderful smile, also she moves pretty well
Love Lily, so much talent and verve as a youngster. Still great after all these years!!
Sturdy Queen for Real!💯
That’s pretty tough moves too do going all the way down in a sitting position bending at the knees and up again gotta have serious strong core muscles to do that . She’s super fit and strong here .
Who's here after viral video??😄😄
Here
Now it makes since where she got her “soul” from. She isn’t the inventor of sturdy but she is pioneer of the movie Bring it on 😂😂😂😂
Exactly. This reminds me of the movie "10" when America said Bo Derick was the 1st woman to pioneer having braids even though black women been doing it for centuries.😆😅
Charming woman, talented and funny. I’ve always been drawn to her work. She presents really simple concepts but through her storytelling it becomes deeper thoughtful insights.
She's sitting like she's getting turned on.
What!? What deeper insights are in this interview....like anywhere in it?
This is an interview format , watch some of her concerts. Additionally I think she was still finding her way as this was in the early 70’s. Hope this helps.
I like how lily told them yt people "this not gonna make sense to you"
Sturdy ! 💃🏽💃🏽
I love Lily! She's great!
i come here once every few days to admire this archive...the sturdy moves, her fit and everything about this interaction 💃✨

Gosh she’s hilarious and with quite the serious moves cool dancer & cheerleader !
Getting sturdy at 4:39
"Tomboy"? "I probably still am a tomboy, whatever that is..." Was Dick trying to get her to confirm a rumor? I'm glad our society has progressed somewhat since then. If she had come out right here and then, it would have destroyed her career. That would have been a great loss to comedy.
If you watch the guest who came after her, Chad Everett, he says something about owning his wife & Lily peacefully says, “Owns? I have to leave now.” To which he remarks, “My wife likes being taken care of by a man, not another woman like she does.” And the host kind of glosses over his remark. This was in 1972 so Lily was already with her now wife (they met in 71). She was never closeted to her friends & people in the industry. She said it was just something you “didn’t talk about.” I agree though, she couldn’t have come out back then. I mean, Ellen came out in the 90’s while on a hit sitcom & it tanked her career. Of course, it’s safe to say her career recovered. Lol 😉
@@matthewscott1091 Yes, I saw that interview with Chad, that's why I looked for this one so that I could see what lead up to his nasty remarks to Lily.
"Chad" (real name Raymon Lee Cramton) was an asshole of the first degree. Just because his wife tolerated his misogyny doesn't mean she was happy. I know from experience how some men (and women!) like him can manipulate their partners into thinking they deserve to be treated badly and have no other choice.
I spent 15 years of misery with a husband like that.
After he left me 5 years ago and moved in with one of his girlfriends, he continued bullying me, but he had to do it through texts and emails because I refused to answer his phone calls. He thought he could convince me to kill myself (because I'm "weak and useless").
I never responded to his "nastygrams", but I did save them and give them to my attorney. I never even saw the judge, but he saw those emails and texts and saw that I did nothing to deserve that.
The final result was that I was awarded the ranch, AND he has to pay alimony. My attorney is writing a book on her experiences with domestic abusers and divorce cases, she says I'm getting my own chapter! Names will be changed, of course.
I'm doing much better now, and I'm the healthiest I've been in 20 years. My 20 acre ranch is nothing fancy, and rough living, but I love this place.
Now I'm able to do the things I wasn't allowed to do before, like organic gardening and having a herd of goats to help maintain clearance of brush for fire prevention, and entertainment! I have a few short videos on my channel of my happy little darlings.
Most of all, I can have friends now. And a feeling of self-worth.
@@LazyIRanch Sad to hear your early story...but happy for your recovery. For many on these sites who don't remember or don't understand why America needed FEMINISM, these stories are a very important reason. Women, because of our upbringing as girls learned to be too tolerant, too patient, to accepting of other's opinions of us, too dependent on a man. Feminist writing said "grow up, get strong, learn to love yourself". It helped me so much and I was never in an abusive relationship but I was unhappily married. My first husband helped me (& our 4 kids) move to a less dangerous neighborhood (after I had separated from him), but before I left, I helped him connect w/ his next partner. I think he appreciated that. He couldn't have been satisfied either in our marriage but back then, if you were Catholic, you usually stayed in unhappy marriages. All of our Catholic friends did that. I'd been reading every feminist writing I could get my hands on...and it helped me wake up and grow. .
don't be a dope, tomboy has a literal meaning, too ... he wasn't trying to out her ferchrisakes
Dick was very progressive, make no mistake

How many girls today in heels would leave the club to the ER in this era?🤣. Lily is a iconic!!!

I've always loved her eyes!🤗
Her style is and appearance is hot.
Let’s go snails 🐌 let’s go bom bom 😂
Her dance makes sense nowadays
Is there a name for her accent? A lot of women sounded like that in the 70s and 80s I don't know why but it's so comforting.
Michigan accent most likely since she said that she was from Detroit.
She do have an accent
Her stand up was killer
To know what she was dancing to makes her gifs so much better🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love Lilly Tomlin ❤️
I see this and then remember her scene in Frankie and Grace at the senior retirement center where she squats and is like, “ my joints are still supple!”
Wow does she ever look Rock Star Coooooooooooooooooooooool here . Love her hair her suit just her look is amazing .
Original Creator of the sturdy - Lily Thomlin 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿
Well she was the first one they televised. She got it from soul cheerleaders ☺️
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's athletic!!!!!!!!
so cute... and wow was she flirty
It truly is a wonder of human nature to behold this brilliantly inspired comedic genius, Lily Tomlin, absorb empathically the "normally" ill-at-ease Dick Cavett's stultified studied humor and thereby become all too out of character discombobulated. Dick Cavett later on had a long overdue breakdown because of his forced sense of having to be "funny" on demand. This glimpse into the past shows just one instance of many that led to Dick's temporary career demise. Lily Tomlin, on the other hand, continued to grow and further learn how to be more and more inspired in her innate propensity to entertain, thankfully for us all! Great continued good luck to them both!
She was getting sturdy tho
I love her!!
To understand how she gets sturdy, start it @4:32. I can't believe my Auntie was right!😭
