PART OF TEXT VERSION OF COMMUNICATIONS THAT I'M ABLE TO INCLUDE HERE. Do you want more? Write in comments and I'll give you remaining part of text communications (Read if subtitles in video were fast):
    HAL378: HCF, Hawaiian 378, MAYDAY-MAYDAY-MAYDAY, stand-by.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, HCF Departure, Honolulu altimeter is 3005.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, HCF Departure, radar contact, say intentions.
COMMENTS: We’re unable to hear pilot for about 20 seconds. We’ll here the reason soon. Continue watching. It seems that they decided to return.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, roger, let's see, turn right heading 180, and which runway would be best for you? You can have 4R or 8L, or 8R? So whatever you need.
COMMENTS: It seems that they decided to return on runway 8L.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, roger, did you wanna come around for the… 8L?
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, okay, climb and maintain 3000 if able.
    HAL378: Up to 3000, Hawaiian 378.
DEPARTURE: And Hawaiian 378, cleared to the Honolulu Airport via radar vectors. When able turn right heading 240.
    HAL378: Heading 240, Hawaiian 378.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, fly on the heading 180 for now.
    HAL378: Heading 180, Hawaiian 378.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, I know you guys are busy troubleshooting there, but when able nature of the emergency and fuel and souls on board, please.
HAL378: Right now we got looks like a compressor stall we're dealing with on our left engine. We're trying to figure out whether or not we need to shut it down. And we got 130 souls on board and 11000 pounds of fuel, it’s about 1 hour and 20 minutes of fuel.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, thank you and just stay on this heading for a little bit longer and anything else you need just let me know. Otherwise I'll just plan to vector you around.
    HAL378: Sounds good, Hawaiian 378.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, one more time on the number of people on board.
HAL378: Number of souls is 132.
    DEPARTURE: Thank you, sir.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, turn right heading 260.
    HAL378: Right turn 260, Hawaiian 378.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, turn right heading 310.
    HAL378: Right turn 310, Hawaiian 378.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, how's it going out there?
HAL378: We’re doing good. We’re just communicating with our crew right now.
    DEPARTURE: Okay, very good, sir.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, turn right heading 350, you can expect the turn back to the south for delays if you need it.
    HAL378: 350, for Hawaiian 378, thanks.
DEPARTURE: Hawaiian 378, any estimate on when you think you might be ready to come in?

    THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreetmap.org/copyrig...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
Text version of communication - Made by Author.
Video editing - Made by author.
    HOW I DO VIDEOS:
    1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
    2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
    3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
    4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
    5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
    6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
    7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

Calm voices all around. Especially noticed the calm "younger" voice from the plane.
This is what they do. 👌👌👌

1:40 "...when able, uh, nature of the emergency, and, uh..."
    (in background) "Fuel and souls!"
"...fuel and souls on board, please."
I think he would have gotten there even if he hadn't been prompted.

The controller is sending on two frequencies. Those are mixed to a stereo file by the capturing. So you nwed to select one channel and make it mono by panning it to the center. :)

Cause they suck. Nah, jk. Probably has something to do with lower quality employees and management than you would see in the mainland. I don't know if this extends to the airline industry, but every other industry here in Hawaii is crap compared to mainland standards. Everyone wants to go surfing. Hard to blame us.

@@YouCanSeeATC There was a Boeing that landed on Midway due to an emergency, then there is this one. Also had the TransAir cargo Boeing crash off of Kalaeloa Airport. Not to forget the Aloha airlines that lost a huge section of the fuselage back in the 80s.

Not sure why they didn't take 4R and not take such a long circuitous route to 8L. The stalls can be duplicated most of the time on deck for troubleshooting. 20-30 miles out to sea is too far IMO for a ditching if that were to happen.

    • @N1120A
      @N1120A 2 роки тому +5

SOP is to use a longer runway, preferably with a precision approach. That means 8L. A compressor stall doesn't indicate a greater problem that would result in ditching. Additionally, the straight in for 8L would also leave JRF as an option in case of the one in a million, or more, chance of a dual engine. failure.

    • @johnellis5828
      @johnellis5828 2 роки тому

They have checklists they have to run before they land usually. One engine out does not equate to a ditching.

    • @tmayorca8770
      @tmayorca8770 2 роки тому

Obviously the odds are small that both engines stall and quit. You know like a few months ago when a cargo plane went and ditched a few miles off shore of that same airport when BOTH engines quit. So yeah, they could have chosen another runway seeing as there were passengers onboard.
