I wonder who first found out this diet coke and mentos thing. I bet they freaked the hell out haha
Rainbow Fun Facts so, you? congrats
James Wise Magic i bet they knew
i would assume it was someone with the knowledge of basic chemistry and knew the ingredients of each thing saying "I bet that would react in diet coke and mentos"
CchewW it is not a chemical reaction though
LMAO xD
I've been seeing this show in Bosnia, for years. And I can honestly say, this was extremely valuable to me, now when I'm on my second year of college. Thank you Jamie, thank you Adam, and thank God I know if a duck can make an echo, and what the hell happens when you mix coke and mentos. Cheers to you guys. :D
So can we conclude if we had green moon there would have been no craters!
Of course! Don't you know anything about science? :P
we must paint the moon green, for science!
hahaha thats right so funny :P
STFU NOBODY CARES U IMBOSSILE!!!
@Sassy The Sasquatch No no no, I want a petition to drop the moon with all it's craters into a giant bottle of diet Cola! :)
Can Mythbusters find out if the 'Jokers magic pencil trick' really works please?
Thanks for being the test subject. ;P
@@ThatWeirdDude40 ok
sorry but no
One time my school had this whole thing worked out where you pull a string and the mentos drop. Well, a teacher didn't pull it high enough and the whole bottle tipped over and sprayed some of my classmates. It was hilarious.
We did this at school with lemonade, diet coke and normal coke :)
Some of the most fun myths to watch were the ones they said were safe to try at home.
Thanks for Mythbusters helping me with my science project.
It's likely a combination of several factors. The pitted surface of the mentos, and possibly a chemical reaction between a chemical in the mentos and aspartame or some other ingredient found in Diet Coke. That would explain the increased reaction found in Diet Coke as opposed to plain soda water.
This is very educational for my daughter and her chemistry class thank you mythbusters!!!
The only thing that happens is that when the person opens the bottle the line that is hanging the mento will loose (because it was stuck by the bottle screw cap) and it will fall right on the bottle. As the bottle is already opened there's no risk of explosion or anything, It's exacly the same as dropping a mento inside a bottle of coke. Nothing more than that, except that with this technique the mento is a ninja and the people don't know.
this goes for all myth and busters videos, i like them all. because i used to watch them when i was in 4th grade. And ther just fun to watch. they also give you good and fun information.
Exactly, I've found that pure sugar will also cause diet coke to expand.
1:10 look at adam! That made my day!
It works with the glazed mentos as well.
"so.. what about get a really big bottle, and put the Moon on it?"

"Don't try anything you are about to see at home."
:(
I did it already

I know. It's almost like this video is 8 years ol-...oh wait.
you're point?
this is really awesome, my science class is going to test this out,
This brings me back to when this was all over the internet.
Love this show, but I can believe both of them would think this proves anything! Of course there was no reaction, they put barrier between the reactants. A real test of this theory would be a smooth mint with the same surface material!
0:48 get pitted, so pitted
I did this in after school program with my science teacers awsome my friends and i loved the experament
Great show
What flavor of mentos will have the most nucleation sites?
yes i agree 100%
Cryticz - MCSG mint
OG Mint.
Mint.
call me crazy but this takes away all the enjoyment of this challenge
This is so fun. I did this a couple times with a whole pack of mentos at once. It was sooo high!
The ad was better quality than the actual video...
People often talk about *Diet* Coke and Mentos. Is there a reason why Diet Coke is better at producing the nucleation reaction than Original Coke?
It's the aspartame in Diet Coke
Who here is drinking Diet Coke right now?
Discovery, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RELEASE ALL THE MYTHBUSTERS VIDEOS. There are so many that are missing: Ultimate Mythbuster, Boarding a Plane, Mythbuster vs Jaws, hitting the fruit stand, and ON and ON. You could make a lot of money off us fans, for pity sake!
I'd suggest checking out the whole episode for the full story, as there are chemical factors involved not addressed in this clip.
So to destroy Earth, all we would need is a giant bottle of coke to drop the moon in?
Yup
turn off the gravity
If I remember right, the conspiracies they hit on and disproved were:
1) The lighting on the landing photo
2) The speed of the film for Armstrong's walk
3) The waving flag
4) The footprint
5) Using a telescope with a light emitter (I think that's what it was) the shot a beam of light at the moon, hitting a reflector that was placed there having it reflect back proving that we've been there since there's human technology sitting on the surface.
Yea
Good job on your video I liked it very much!
thats the lightest cola light ive ever seen
20 gallons of coke vs 100 mentos
We have made a tsar bomb if we create that
+perfectbonzia124 it can't you'd have to have a different kind of coke thats more potent
+perfectbonzia124 Not really, the tzar bomba was a bomb that used fusion and fission reaching about 50 mt. 20 gallons of coke and 100 mentos would not cause any explosion. It would just create a lot of gas and dissipate
+Science Smash the tzar bomb uses fission, not fusion
Juan Martinez Look up a hydrogen bomb, The bomb first uses fission, and the surrounding hydrogen casing fuses into helium. No bomb could be so powerful without using fusion bc it is 200x more powerful than fission. Don't act so cool kid.
What they should of done to truly test this was make a bit plastic with loads of tiny pits in it and see if it still works. It's kind of annoying how poor this test they did is.
exactly what I was thinking I think I might do my own video on it
The problem is that replicating such a complex surface with machines and such on plastic is near impossible as such surface is caused by the solidification of the candy.
Could do it easy, lasers.
saiyaniam It might not even be fine enough. Crystallization can create some pretty fine structures. But maybe it could be done. I'm not an expert of this after all.
Volvary this is easy. Just scrub it with a little bit of sandpaper and see if it has any effect.
You don't need to have a 100% reproduction of the effect. If the roughed surface of the plastic has an effect at all, you can extrapolate that to the mentos' roughness.
man i miss this show
I busted this myth when I was 10. Still.. It's always fun to watch :D
Next myth buster: Does a beret make a man look any less bald?
Answer: No.
mythbusters, please do an episode about "noah's ark"
bust that myth!
That's not a myth. It's a fact.
Of course, coming from someone who thinks that a tiny sub-atomic particle (the existence of which isn't explained) expanded trillion-fold and created our universe, it's pretty laughable that you would be calling the Ark a myth!
...You doubt the big bang?
You deny the existence of redshift, a understandable and observable natural phenomena. All the while supporting a young Earth theory; a theory which states the world was Completely covered in a flood.. a flood which left no trace of it's genocidal embrace?
Honestly singularities are not even uncommon in our current universe, as all blackholes are formed with one.
@@robinhyperlord9053 Who said I was an atheist, I might be agnostic.
Its probably a waste of time judging by your comment, though honestly; to reject understandable happenings in our universe because a book told you too is madness. If you don't know, look up how the bible was compiled. You will find it leaves a lot of room to guess at the authenticity of the sources and question if any of it is a fair representation of gods word.
Some say that to even attempt to write down what god has said is insulting, as god is perfection. Because of this, no man could ever depict him fairly. Hell, there is a commandment about that.
All in all, assuming everything in a 3000 year old (or so) book is direct word of god, when even modern translations have obvious failings, is not only immodest, but also self-delusional.
I always knew about the coke and mentos thing but i never thought of it when i used to drink coke and have mentos at the same time haha!
very nice program, I like to watch it, you can learn something interesting
I started watching survivor clips, which led me to richard hatch videos, which led me to richard hatch on who wants to be a millionaire, which led me to stupid WWTBAMillionaire questions, which was a question about coke and mentos, which led me to coke and mentos videos, which led me to this. Wow youtube you are really addictive!
Why is it I cant find episodes via internet?
They should have split a coated one in half and seen if it produced fizz half as quickly.
goddangit....i now watched the whole night of these sort of vids, you know, weird science things, and with like from 6 out of 10 videos i get the same damn ad!! >:(
The MythBusters should do a piece on pork chops and Coca Cola!
i love this show
ima try this now
i came from from a dark barking at someone parking their car to a mentos+diet coke headshot
I've often wondered why it's always that sweet & that pop, because I've put sugar in lemonade & it fizzed a lot, but nothing like the explosions I've seen with Mentos & cola.
So they proved that it has to be Mentos, but it doesn't have to be cola - interesting.
Baby Scientists did experiemtns to see what candy would react best and found no difference between mint and fruit mentos on percent mass blasted. But there was a noticeable difference on the height of the fountain. The fruit mentos reacted slightly slower, but the reaction was more sustained.
Great myth buster.
now i want to do it really badly
nice stuff
The same effect; fountain. But you have to freeze the menthos when the water is already very cold, near the freezing point. Because it will dissolve in the water.
it wouldn't do that because the mento would never be in contact with the coke before someone opened it. basically what happens is that the mento is suspended by the line that is stuck right at the top of the bottle and when someone opens it the line isn't stuck anymore and the mento falls inside the bottle.
wow thx... im craving menotos
Oooh that explains why it didn't work when I threw a Fruit Mentos into my soda! >.
what drink you use in the 1st part to make it go so high?
Do you have a video of it up?
So what you're saying is that the outside of the mentos looks like the 2019 New York Giants defense?
i loved this
Its been a looong time.
With out you my friends
Love this
LOVE MYTHBUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im actually whatching this episode
i hope you can visit me in the philippines. i want to meet you guys in person. you have amazing job:-)
I think that there is a forum on the discovery channel website.
The man with glasses is Zoidberg from Futurama, the squid man.
one myth i remember very well from western movies is someone hanging on the gallows, but in the very last second the rope is cut by a gunshot.
The moves typically hurt a bit according to wrestlers, but are designed and meant to be executed to prevent serious injury. Mistakes happen, though aka Stone Cold neck injury. The springs under the mat also help absorb much of the impact.
@RizzaPS3 Whats 240p?
Today I sat down for a nice snack of some Mentos and a can of Diet Coke.
Well, this is one of those myths where doing it at home may be less dangerous than sloppy.
Where did you get, see through diet coke?
GO Mythbusters!!!!
MOOOMMM GO TO THE STORE WE NEED COKE AND A LOT OF MENTOES :D
Giorgio sez: "Aliens? I think ...yes!"
@Augustrocks100 coud you record it?
@Gusten mcCartney where do I find the song?
Try to split a arrow that is in the bulls eye with another arrow
What is the Chemical Equation of this experiment?
Каждый день смотрю эту передачу
Every day I watch this program
Mythbusters, why you no post in HD?!
what happens if you drop 2,3 mentos' in a bottle of diet coke and then shut the bottle? Does it like explode?
It doesn't gross me out! It contains awesomeness.
This team needs to try on the Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster" hoax sometime. As in: I want to see Kari Byron do her best Ester Cordet and drizzle honey while on fiberglass, to recreate the album cover.
Also they should do this hoax for the mysterious screaming heard during the song's guitar break, which is really just the keyboardist hitting his best high notes.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA the irony when the advertisement was for pepsi XD
R.I.P. : Augustrocks100 1995-2011
so the firt vid sho's the crazie one putting a white mento's in the bottle and it got like 5 inches in the air but the second tike like 2 foot. so my question is: what did he used the second time
where the hell do you get fizzy water
What did he thunk would happen, and wtf was he trying to do with the 2 liter in the lathe??😂😂😂
Lol I did this once with pop rocks!!! Really Fun!!!
AWESOME
Remember the good ol days when we had Soda and Fizzy Candy
Mythbusters are my heroes.
@JackieeTran No, Our water doesnt have carbendioxide like pop, its the suff that makes it fizzy. you need the fizzy stuff to make it work
