NO, NO, Nope. No root. Just use a 3rd party launcher (Nova works fine). Disable the persistent search bar. Download the CSBW (Custom Search Bar Widget) by Nate Wren. This is awesome. Put it wherever you like, any page you like and even add a custom Drawer and attach your apps to it.
dude you sound like you are in the know - can you answer this, i got a new cheap chinese android v6 and it has this wierd app FotaProvider - not in my apps tray but visible in settings/apps - i think it is installed to send back sensitive user info - i'd be curious to see what you think ? thanks
I did some research. No one seems to know what this is although one suggests it is responsible for updates on your device. If that's the case removing it will cause you problems. If it's a system app you won't be able to uninstall it. (doesn't give you that option). Since you're on Marshmallow, I would check your battery usage and see if it's using up juice. You could disable it and monitor, see what happens.

FYI FOTA = Firmware Over The Air . . and i think the idea is that companies connected with the phone maker can remotely update soft/firm-ware onto the phone, but there have been reports that this facility was being abused and that personal info was taken off users devices. Been to various forums and asked on websites but so far drawn a blank, my battery usage is ok and the FotaProvider app cannot be easily disabled/stopped/uninstalled as it is embedded in the OS. my phone is an M20Pro ( Quad Core MTK6737 Dual SIM 1 GB RAM 16 GB ROM 3000 mAh ) made by Globalstar in China and is marketed as a 'no.name', i paid 80 euros for it. Sorry to ramble on but just thought you might be interested, cheers

GUYS I FIGURED IT OUT. Long tap any open space on your home screen. Then tap Settings next to where it says Widgets and it will give you the option to turn it off. That's it

Bad idea!!! If you don't like App Vault page displayed on your home screen, turn it off from Settings -> Home screen & recents. Simple !!!
This module is not working correctly for me ... it will hide the bar completely but won't make it translucent or change the color of the bar.
