- As 'A Very Royal Scandal' launches, Emily Maitlis tells James O'Brien she doesn't regret the Prince Andrew interview but is 'concerned about the ramifications' on those around him.
Emily Maitlis has spoken of her sense of "unfinished business" with Prince Andrew, as a TV show depicting her bombshell interview with him comes out five years on.
The infamous sit-down with the prince was conducted in 2019, on questions revolving around his connection to Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell.

For many years, talking about Andrew’s vile behaviour was considered rude and inappropriate. Emily Maitlis gave those of us who had been yelling about that man for years a real gift by getting him on the record in public.
Andrew Windor is an awful individual.
So is Huw Edwards. There's an idea!
@@rb1062 you are acting like those who hate Andrew dont hate Huw
speedo! hes a speedo
After filming Andrew and his PR team thought the interview went extremely well, just shows how out of touch these people are🤦
Which goes to show how powerful people tend to surround themselves with yes man rather than truthful people, there’s no way that interview could have sounded right to anyone other than Andrew himself, maybe not even him if he had a tiny bit of common sense.
Maitlis held up a mirror to Andrew who was too entitled to be unsuprised there was no reflection.
No one has ever looked guiltier than Andrew in that interview.
Nor should she feel regret. She allowed him to sink himself with his own words.
Maitlis employed the perfect strategy during the interview of letting him talk. She knew going into interview that he was an overconfident idiot - simply from the fact that he had agreed to do it.
Prorogation of Parliament was absolutely vile and off the scale in terms of democracy denial
At the time a number of people expressed that she should have gone in harder
There was a fine line to balance, she had to keep him talking and not make him clam up and stop the interview. I think she walked that line well, set the right traps for him to fall into. If she'd pushed to hard to force an outright admission, he would have just shut down right there as that would be less damaging that said admission.
Emily you could have said no you don’t feel sorry for him. I don’t think the OBE, MBE, Lady title is coming in the post 😂
Two very of yhe best journalists going...Thank you..
Maitlis is true journalist
Free gear Kier and Lady Sponge have declared their free gear, so that's ok! 🤣🤣🤣
Well done Emily Maitlis for shining a light on such an horrific human being
Yes, she should now interview hugh edwards.
At least he went to court.
YES and maybe Netflix will make another movie out of it like the cringe worthy Prince Andrew one - Scoop 🤣🤣🤣
The whataboutery is outstanding 😂😂😂
@@brianbell3836 And your happy he wont spend any prison time?
I do feel from this a larger conversation regarding the detachment of the Royals from reality. There was something very galable from Prince Andrew on that interview that's why Emily humanise Prince Andrew.
Ruth Wilson sounds like Emily Maitliss
Perhaps she should have interviewed Huw Edwards instead of support him.
The Andrew interview existed entirely because Andrew did it, apparently against advice. The interview was a one-man show and the interviewer only needed to be there and ask standard questions as his act progressed, which was what she did. He could have been interviewed by ChatGPT and the result would have been exactly the same. The Edwards interview, which you seem so desperate to see, did not happen solely because of the non-participation of Edwards. I'm sure many people and organizations proposed interviews with him, which would have been standard behaviour of the media.
That’s right! Hold 1 person to account for 100 year old company’s organisational failings.
Did she know what Edwards was up to
LOL! Of course she's not sorry......... made a pretty penny out of it.
The video has been removed from prime. Where else can it be found?
If you are asking about A Very Royal Scandal, it's going to be released today or tomorrow on Prime.
It’s on prime. I’m currently watching it “a very English scandal” season 3 episodes 1,2,3
@@blinkin78 A Very British Scandal is a different show.
Maitlis will be flogging this interview until 3000
Makes you a little sick to see these people at the palace refer to Andrew as 'sir' and 'bow' as he passes by. I believe the photo is real and I also believe in 'carma'. Bet there's a lot of police and servants that are enjoying this 'Drama'.
A very royal scandal indeed!!
It is the job of the Security services to protect the Royals from enemies without AND within, They failed miserably. Andrew should give Huw Edwards a shout maybe they could move in together.
Thankfully the security services were either incompetent or tyrned a blind eye. Forever grateful
i really like and respect Emily Maitlis and love the podcast etc..... but what is the point of dramatising this interview, just watch the real interview if you're interested in it
money
For entertainment?
If we want to know why prince 🤴 Andrew lost the capacity to sweat in the Falklands 🤔 We need to start trying to work out what disturbed him in Chile. 🤔😹
Why is she talking up Sheen like he's suddenly gonna end up with allegations to beat lol
Maitlis would fit in a shakespearian play as well, getting close, holding up the sword
Will there be a Princess Diana video and the mischievous way they pressured her to do the interview
There already has been. Martin Bashir even got sued and disgraced over the whole thing.
@@Melsharpe95 I did not know they made a documentary, thank you
I just fell in love with Emily, she's absolutly wonderful....and a great journalist!!
What do you think of her standing up for Huw Edwards?
@@rb1062 *You're a crackpot conspiracy theorist.*

What do you think of the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre?
@@MattSingh1 Erm ... it's a fact. Do you just like flinging the words "conspiracy theorist" at people because you think it makes you sound knowledgeable? Come on, explain why I'm a "conspiracy theorist" based on my comment. I dare you.
The 2nd drama on the same subject, totally unnecessary!
So?
But the first one didn't have Michael Sheen in it. So they had to do it again, properly this time.
Yea. Like Shakespeare should never have done Henry V, coz it had already been dramatised twice before. FFS dude.
@@gmonkman I have a feeling that the OP may never have seen Shakespeare in his life! 😂
Is it true Andy had young women invited to the palace via the servants door late in the evening.
Smart girl and played a blinder with Andy's 'the Emperors New Clothes' take 2 interview.
Ponce andrew the beast of windsor !!!!
Still supporting Huw are you Jimmy boy?

I thought that movie Scoop was terrific and Gillian Anderson played an outstanding Emily Maitlis. Her Grey Whippet Greyhound Moody is a beautiful dog.

It was pretty dreadful.

You mean Andrew Battenberg.
DS Emily Maitlis is awful.. its opinions should be ignored its no longer relevant and not on the royals Christmas card list...

Possibly the most overrated interview off all time, ever. It told us nothing and proved nothing. Meanwhile, she misses Huw Edwards behaviour, right under her nose and publicly supports him?
Is that the same Maitlis who offered her full support to staunch Labourite Huw Edwards? Interesting moral compass.
She defended a work colleague before all the details came out. I think that's pretty normal tbh I'd be reluctant to believe a colleague did such things at first too. It's not like she is defending him now though? It's always funny how selectively people wish to apply the concept of "innocent until proven guilty". Either it applies to everyone and we respect the system or it applies to no one and we let the court of public opinion dictate everything.
Does she still now the details are clear?
I think supporting a colleague is a normal thing to do, as would be withdrawing support as you learned there was wrong doing.
What would you do if a colleague was accused? drop tehm like a hot potato at any allegation?
Yes, the one and same. Ironic, isn't it?
@@thomasandrewcliffordwe all know that politics is tribal so if it is someone on the same political ’team’ as you the view is ‘nothing to see here move on’ and whataboutery. When it is someone on the other political ’team’ it is full on condemnation and whataboutery.
Rather than the nuance of your statement or when someone does something wrong it is wrong whether they are left or right
"Labourite" is not a label I'd put on Edwards. If a label must be found an obvious one should be "devout Christian".
She also has unfinished business with Hugh Edwards who she protected when the allegations came out. Hypocrite
Different allegations. Nobody knew he was a pdf.
LBC will shortly be deleting your comment as it does not suit their agenda.
I'd assume she does indeed but not in the weird way you're implying. I'd have unfinished business too if I had a positive opinion of a work colleague for years then they turned out to be a PDF. I don't see it as hypocritical in any way if I'm being honest.
@@ashleysewell5959 What's "their agenda"?
@@dannyquinn9128 Radical woke lunacy. In O'Brien's case, he has invited her on to support his anti monarchy rhetoric. Therefore any confrontational comments will be deleted by his production team. See it time and time again.
I listened to this interview, and if memory serves, she never once mentioned Ruth Wilson's portrayal of her. Fleetingly, maybe, but I can't remember. She waxed lyrical about Michael Sheen, though.
I think it is very embarrassing to talk about smebody who is supposed to be you. It falls to another person to do that.
@@annepoitrineau5650 yeah...I probably didn't think that through.
Whats the matter with you James? First Blair, now Emily. Is this the same Emily that defended Edwards.
How can you defend anyone, especially when it comes to paedophilia, when even the police could not categorically say he was innocent or guilty. Why didn't you ask her about Huw? Don't let me start having second thoughts about you James. At the moment, many people, have a very low opinion of our Press, and quite rightly so!
As for the interview with Andrew, if thats her claim to fame, then I feel sorry for her, for us English people and for our place in the world. Running around with Epstein, the whole World already felt he was guilty of something! His mother proved it by paying off the accuser, saving him a prison term, and severe embarrassment to his family.
This was while our friends cringed with embarrassment, and our enemies, gleefully and sneeringly watched our discomfort. 😮
Who gives a f k about the interview?
You care so little that you just had to comment how much you don’t care 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Got any comments on Edwards maitlis?
She has unfinished mortgage rather
