    Victor Martin is a railway enthusiast who runs his own model railway. Various shots of Victor in guard's uniform in his office, he clips train ticket in machine and looks at his watch. He walks out onto the platform where people are waiting, the camera follows him to show he is actually in his garden with no track. He climbs a ladder to clean a full scale signal, there are various signs saying Beware of Trains etc.
    Various shots of him and his wife with their model Midland and South East Railway which works exactly to 1948 St. Pancras timetable. He goes outside to clean the line when the train gets stuck, mice on the line are the biggest hazard for this railway.

      Model railroading is pretty expensive, and sometimes complicated.
      Some kids will not understand how to get it all running. DCC decoders, mainteinance, switches, all the electric stuff, and all the materials needed to build a model railway, the wood to build the custom table probably needed, the tools, all the scenery building, layout design, buildings, weathering, etc.
      I think small kids could start with Tomy/Trackmaster Thomas and Friends sets, wich are far more simple, but similar railway feeling.
      They can do it virtually anyway, there is a Model Railway game called "Rule the Rail", were you can build your own railways, or even design the ones you want to use in real life.
      I would love to build my own model railway, but i have to wait until i'm a grown man with money. That's the true.
      Meanwhile, i will stick to my mobile devices

      @@bugler75 It got broken up and all the items were sold off at auction because the children didn't want it or they were too busy playing trains to have any children and the state or a distant relative sold it all off. Most likely. Possibly an interested child of the couple moved in after his death and continued using the railway, eventually finding a wife who enjoyed enacting the 1948 timetable an they are still at it now.

    • @michael32A
      @michael32A Рік тому +1

      This might be 3rail, because of the balloon loop at the end, and he has a current collector rail off to the side.🤔 To answer your other question: There are some folks here who still run three-rail, and models are still available new to something closer the type of coarse-scale standards you would have found in the 1950s with tinplate rollingstock, such as Bassett Lowke (a Hornby Hobbies brand, last I knew), but they're very much the exception. The Finescale *and* three-rail combination like is popular in the USA has seemingly never been available here.😕
      Finescale two-rail took over as the norm in O gauge from commercial, coarsescale three-rail some 50years back, albeit mostly kit/scratch built for 4.5 decades, *but* finescale O gauge (2rail) is a trully booming sector of the UK/British model railway market at the moment, with _lots_ of ready-to-run becoming available over the last 5years, with makers like Heljan and Dapol mostly leading the way, but there are plenty of other, much smaller companies with ready-to-run offerings too, and the number of kit suppliers for locos and rolling stock is still as strong as ever.
      Only downside is our houses are somewhat smaller on average, and the suggested minimum track radius for even a small shunting/switching 0-4-0ST engine is 40inches... Whereas I'm sure I've seen US layouts running 3rail express trains through radii nearly half that? The result being most layouts folk have at home are either shunting puzzles, implausibly small rural backwater termini, or just depict a part of a depot for those really bent on running/displaying bigger locos. As ever though, there are exceptions, and some exceptional exceptions at that! Music producer Pete Waterman's depiction of the railways of his native Leamington Spa being a prime example.😮 Simon George's layout depicting Heaton Lodge Junction in the 1980s is another big layout, the UK's biggest in fact, modeling a scale 1.3 mile stretch of track.😬
