Whoa, you made it all the way down here! Thank you ♥️ Love you - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
I wrap my hives with a commercial landscaping cloth. It’s black so it does draw heat and it is water resistant so it doesn’t soak up like a sponge but offers good wind block. So far so good.
Plan on trying queen rearing in ‘23
I used bubble wrap from Costco and it really works almost as well as fiberglass insulation but better because it doesn't get soaked with rain or sleet. fiberglass when wet will keep moisture in the hive which is a killer. Bubble wrap won't absorb rain and dries very quickly.
I thought that too, but I've used fiberglass for years without any moisture issues.
Merry Christmas. Stay safe, enjoy your friends and family over the holidays.
Yes, Dianne and you too! Thanks for being part of my UA-cam Channel Family.
Like you I am in Northern Illinois. I bought a hive sleeve since I have just one hive. They are spoiled. I also learned about your candy boards through your videos. I have a woodshop so made my own boards and placed one on about 4 weeks ago. So far they are staying in the bottom deep and not moving up. My first year and working hard to get them through winter. On the queen rearing, you almost have me convinced to give it a try. Hope you and the family have a Merry Christmas. Stay warm and healthy.
Thanks David!
David--Love the sweater! Merry Christmas! Jeff B in NJ
That sweater is a real winner
Merry Christmas from Henry County TN. I placed my moisture quilt, checked sugar pattie and wrapped my hive. Used an old truck sized window sun reflector. Bees clustered low in hive. One deep and 2 mediums. Praying my bees will survive this storm. Thanks for your video.
Thanks David, have a blessed holiday, Linda from Northern Maryland
Thank you Linda and I really appreciate you being part of our expanding UA-cam channel Family.
Thank you for all your awesome help. Hope my bees make it this year with all the tips I learned from you.
Yes, glad to hear from you and have you as part of my UA-cam channel community,
Stay safe everyone!!!!!
Indeed Kristen
Thank you , stay warm ...
Thanks, you too Rodney
Dave, thanks for the tips. We have lows here in the south (North Carolina) of ZERO with 40 MPH winds! We received our Winter-Bee-Kind boards (thank you) and placed them on the hives. We also wrapped them with insulation, well vented on top, and heavy stone to weight the hive boxes down. We are hunkering down and praying for daylight and normal temps soon! Best, Merry Christmas, Kevin Rowland. PS Love the sweater & see you at Hive Life! Appreciate all you and the team do for us!
Thank you so much Kevin. It will be tough on hives to say the least. Glad you like my sweater.
Here in AL the temps for Tomorrow Night is 18f, and high below Freezing, stay warm up there David! Merry Christmas!
Good luck, and you stay warm too
Thanks! Merry Christmas!
Same to you! Have a Merry Christmas
My Honeybee house is working out great Although I'm not finished with it it is inside my shop So my honey bees are in a house that are Building even my weak hive is doing good And I left them plenty of honey
Sounds good Kenneth.
I am very glad that you are doing this queen information series!
Well I'm so glad to hear that and thank you so much for being part of my great UA-cam Channel Family.
Sounds like you're expecting colder temperatures than I am, and I'm in Alaska! Yikes!
Hi Veronica, weather hear on the plains of the midwest can be unforgiving! The winds are the killer for us.
THANK YOU for this video. Icy rain ended last night. First thing this morning I was off to Lowe's for insulation and tape. The temps dropped 7 degrees by the time I got home. Winds off Skyline Drive here in the foothills of Virginia were fierce. Got it done! Tonight wind chills down to -10. Bees saved.
Way to go Kathy 👏
Good luck to you and your bees they can take very low temperatures starving and condensation will do for them .❤😎🍀☃️
This is my first year love your videos. I'm in NE Kansas they are taking 40mph winds -40 wind chills. I put straw bales on the north and west side of my hives
Good idea Taylor. Our winter winds are relentless on our bees.
Great video
Thank you and merry Christmas ⛄
Same to you!
Thanks again for all the great tips.
My pleasure!
Thank you very much for a tips 👍🏻.
My pleasure!
Stay safe
You too
Great advice
I appreciate it! Thanks for being part of my UA-cam channel community
Great show 👏 love all your videos 📹 ❤
You rock!
Thank you so much. Im really worried about my bees this winter.
Hi Johnny, yes, I understand but whattaya gonna do. We are resourceful and will make it happen no matter what.
Was out in my yard a couple days ago and I have snow on the lids a foot high
Wow Dan, knock that off 😄 ☃️
😂 that sweater is priceless
Thanks Lisa, I'm getting my money's worth out of it for sure. Thank you for being part of my UA-cam Channel Family.
Thank you for the winter tips. This is their first winter in Las Vegas and the girls are still collecting pollen in December. 🤞🏼
Oh wow!
Why are you not using an entrance reducer on the single medium hive? They look like they are doing good. I have lost 2 out of 27 hives already. They had small bee numbers. Both replaced the queen late August. I believe they just didn't build up enough after that.
It's in a real sheltered place and I wrapped it so it's covered now.
Hi David, beekeeper from coastal Newfoundland here. The wind blows here all the time, often at extreme speeds. I designed makeshift wind guards for the upper entrances that allow light to enter as well as bee passage and air flow. How can I post/upload a picture of it? All your winterizing tips are standard here as well.
Send your photos to: longlanehoneybees@gmail.com and maybe I'll feature it in an upcoming video.
Thanks David I going to get some stuff to wrap today!! I’m in zone 5b the storm is coming 😮
Indeed, good luck
Thank you, sir. I was wondering if insulating in summers that are scorching hot? We had a full summer of 100 and up this past year.
Hi Jane, shade is always better for help in hot climates. Insulation might hold too much heat in the hive. Thanks for being part of my rapidly growing UA-cam Channel Family.
I already have my hives wrapped but do you think it extra little wrapping just for the storm would help then take it off when it passes
Why not Rodney. Good thinking.
Hi David how often do you replace your queens ? I have half a dozen that’s going into there 3d year. Should I replace them
Usually once a year since I raise queens, it's easy and a safe guard that one will not perish on me in the middle of winter.
What do you suggest I wrap my hive in if I can’t use insulation wrap.
A wind break of any kind will help so much. Foam board, even roofing paper, anything that can just keep the cold off the walls. Thank you William for being part of my rapidly growing UA-cam Channel Family! I appreciate you.
@@beek Thank you, mot just for the comment but for the content you make it’s really relatable and has helped me many times.
How cold does it have to be to start wrapping? it's in the 20s here at night now, which is really cold for me :) but it will climb to the 30s maybe 40s in the day. Will that end up being too hot with the wrap? Thanks
Err on the side of wrapping
@@beek Thanks for the reply. I wrapped them all except my long hive, the walls are 2 inches thick so I'm hoping that will be enough to keep them warm because I have no more insulation
I'm frome Alabama gonna be cold 🥶
Stay warm. We stay warm by paying for high price propane 😃
Should kill out the mean bees don't want the genetics getting in the other bees.
