From the look of this plot it looks like the previous plot holders once loved it and did a fair to midlin job of running it. I wonder if they got sick, moved or had some other unforeseeable reason for having to give it up. A shame for them but good news for you guys. I hope if the last people are watching your channel they will be able to enjoy their old plot through your eyes. It is so hard as we get older and are not able to do the things we used to love and enjoy doing. At 72 I still really enjoy my garden but as the years slip by (and they do so faster than ever it seems!) I really dread the day I have to move from my home and possibly go into care....I think my garden will be the hardest thing to give up. Anyway, I pray that won't be anytime soon. So, take care and stay safe, Sandie from Ontario Canada. PS... I love watching your videos and even when I am unable to do the things you are doing, I can enjoy watching you doing them, on my behalf so to speak....keep it up Joe (and Kelly) Love you both!

This was so satisfying to watch lol isnt it wierd how house work and tidying are chores, yet clearing a plot is so fulfilling! You could tell you were enjoying getting stuck into it 😁😁

I stumbled onto your channel a month or so ago. I enjoy watching you and I am so glad you have this new plot ! That last one seemed to be nothing but headaches due to the people mainly ! It was their loss really!
I live in the USA ~~ Alabama ~~ For some reason I really enjoy watching all of you guyes working on your allotments !
I watch a lot of homesteader videos and after a bit youtube started recommending videos from across the big pond~~
I enjoy yours so much that I finally signed on the computer and subscribed ~ and ~Liked ~~ I normally watch them on the tv , while I am not signed in to youtube! LOL!
Oh! I really love your laugh! My hubby and I get a kick out of your attitude about things !
Can't wait to see how you will design and create in this new allotment!

Hugelkulture beds are fab, where you fill the bottom half of the bed with old timber to rot down. Saves a fortune on compost and provides a natural source of fertility. A lot of my beds have some form of hugelkultur at the bottom.

Your new plot has been really well looked after in the past. A lot of work and attention has gone into it. It's amazing how quickly a garden can deteriorate and look a mess. Can I be a bit cheeky? Your previous designs have given a lot of space to paths and buildings. Could you consider larger cultivated areas? I've always admired your courage and 'can do' attitude especially when you were giving so much at the site where you organised the Shop. Good luck with all your endeavours. You and Kelly are the Salt of the Earth and I love sharing just a little bit of your adventure.

Hazelford Well the wider paths and cooking / seating areas are because I build gardens. There’s only two of us to feed and we get so much food even now we still give loads of it away. If we ever ran low on crops I’d just build more beds and it’s nice to have room for my building videos (Pallet Projects) I’m in no rush to landscape the entire area and leave myself short of working space haha I’ll be having even wider pathways on the new plot to allow tractor access and I can use the tool to help those who want manure and wood chip but struggle with a wheelbarrow. Glad you’re enjoying the vlogs 🌱👍

As always Jo. Great to see. I found out I got a new plot today. My neighbour has given his up, lucky for me most of the hard work has been done. Hes worked his plot for many years and is in a much better state than mine. I'm really looking forward to a new growing season on a better plot. Thanks again for your videos, I love what you do. You inspire me.

Cracking start Joe, seeing as you have lots of wood, and you’re allowed fires...they’re a good way to clear weeds too...just keep moving the bonfire about and the heat kills the weeds underneath obviously 😁...atb mate, Mark

I'd've kept the three stage compost bins and continued using them, but that probably just shows how lazy I am, or how unresourceful I am in building new ones.

great to see you back in your happy place, I think I heard that letting the wood rot down instead of burning it is better for carbon capture, plus think of all the beneficial bugs, fungi and bacteria which will live in it while it breaks down 🙂

You can use the wood really any which way, both as permaculture or burning and spreading the Ash to add nutrients to the ground. Win win.

what i'd like to know, joe, is how long have the names permaculture and hugelculture been out. these are things that have been going on since my grandads day and all the old timers called it was a common sense way of getting rid of old wood etc. nobody ever looked to putting their name to old ideas.on the face of it, it looks like you fell on your feet with the new plot.as i say, thats only the visual side of it. does the plot flood? is the soil heavy? these questions will be answered as you go through each stage, mate.........................brian

Hi Tim, in all honesty I think you’ll have to introduce some beneficial nematodes! If you’re organic that is (I hope you are lol) do some research, plenty of selling websites out there who are worth a call. Other than that I’d emigrate’!!!
