Mate when I was a teen this song was an intro to emo for me too! I already loved rock and metal but this new emo punky stuff clicks with the teen angst. Ohio is for lovers, another intro to emo for me, was the introduction to yallternative I didn't know I needed 😂🤙

Well technically country isn’t just that pop music in the radio may I recommend listening to the dead south they do bluegrass type of music somewhat of the country genre but a surely underrated genre
Then you're missing out. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Martie Robbins, or even contemporary stuff like Blues Saraceno.
I would definitely recommend folk music and some classic country. I can agree on contemporary country though
