Hey fellas. Long time listener (ATN days) first time commentor. What I love about this pod is how all of you are yourselves to the nth degree. Dan's backhanded quips, Sessler's other-worldly wordsmithing and non-sequitor side commentary, Connor's left-field recaps, Justin's audio drops from the top rope of a WWE main event. It's wacky. It's esoteric. It's head-turning. It's entirely all of you, and it's one-of-a-kind.
Love the pod as always! Also, fun fact, there is (or at least was) a program in California where incarcerated people trained to be firefighter and then went on to fight fires! My uncle was a part of it! Wild concept but very real
I heard two post-game interviews worth listening to, which is a rarity. The first was with Aaron Jones talking about him fumbling the ball early on the game being something that can get a player fired and trying to keep it together on the sidelines and thanking his coaches for giving a second opportunities and still having faith in him. The second was Dallas's KaVontae Turpin talking about the kick going through his legs and him still returning it for a TD because he sounds like Boomhauer, man, and talks about as quick as he runs. Oh no. I might start having to listen via headphones/earbuds/airpods/airbud (it doesn't explicitly say anywhere in the rules that headphones CAN'T be a dog: I'll allow it!) and pull a Jourdan with the gravy boat every time Graver starts believing again in Levis as the Titans QB. I don't know if I can take the inevitable yet ridiculous heartbreak that will hit him at the end.
As a Vikings fan, I remember the exact moment when I realized Justin Fields didn't have it: 2 years ago against the Lions, the Bears are at midfield with time for 2 plays. The Lions drop their entire D-line into coverage, resulting in Fields holding the ball for ALL 8 SECONDS and throwing an interception to Hutchinson 10 yards down the field as time expired. Anyway, Caleb's OT sack this past week gave me a very similar feeling.
Graver nailed the Mike MacDonald analysis. Have been saying much akin about the Seattle D will 'take some f-ing time' to some impatient folk on Hawks chats frequently.
Bears fan here. Today's game was the "Battle of the Bilge". Two teams that have histories of being truly awful. Somehow we both find new depths to crawl to entertain others.
I'm in the camp of "AR will be good" but he needed to be on the bench last season and probably this season. Reps in practice do matter for his development. There are proud pros in that locker room that see themselves as more than practice dummies, and Steichen needs to do right by them too.
He was on the bench last season. He was injured. And he didn't get reps in practice. Because he was injured last season. And they tried benching him. Flacco was terrible. And Minshew was the QB last season. Not much he is gonna learn from Minshew.
You should see the media. AR can't catch a break. Yeah. He's not accurate. But it doesn't help the team around is also very mid. He makes some bad throws, and makes some good ones. He's a rookie. Look at Young. Started way more games than AR. Not great
Mahomes was nowhere near the sideline when he turned upfield on that last run, and no one cares if you're bored with the Chiefs' success. The ADHD generation doesn't know how to handle sustained success. Could you imagine the narrative for the Jordan Bulls from reporters and analysts being "God, were so bored with the Bulls' success. Why can't anyone else please win? We need someone new to talk about and glorify."
this Mahomes hate feels so forced, is he not allowed to make plays? when Lamar does something similar he is praised as the second coming of Jesus but when it's Pat he's bending the rules? I can understand the run vs the niners but this one, really?
Love the pod and a forever fan, but a bit tiring to hear Packers recaps be 75% about the other team. Trounce a bitter rival 38-10 and hardly get spoken about? Oof. 8-3 and 3rd in the division, no mention? Oof.
Haha idk you make a joke about the Richardson box score and then you read off the incompletions and it actually did sound like the box score didn't accurately reflect the play. I don't really care one way or the other. As a spectator Richardson is more interesting to watch. If I'm the Colts, I think the trajectory makes sense. You put in Flacco becuase Richardson wasn't getting better. But once Flacco is in you see the ceiling of your team is still too low so throw the kid back out there and live with the lower floor/higher ceiling roller coaster
Anthony richardson is all potential and people really want to see that develop. Idk Connor seems to really dislike him, but I think he is an exciting player. He's not there yet, and he needs another year at least to figure things out.
He needs this season, the full off-season, and next season to figure it out. He didn't play his rookie year, and when he did, he did some amazing things. The talent is there.
The reason so many of us are protecty Anthony Richardson is because there is a large group of people screaming bust whe. The dude has barely played and is very young
Just to be clear...Cowboys played Wash without their QB1, RG1, LG1, CB1, TE1, WR2 and DE2.....Wash were pretty much fully healthy at home. Cowboys came in with 4 days to prepare, Wash with 10. Cowboys D was outstanding for 3 quarters despite being shorthanded and were also better on O than Wash for 55 minutes of the game...but lets not give any credit to the Cowboys for deservedly winning the game despite playing as decimated by injury as any team in the league.
I think people are forgetting it’s the Most Valuable Player award and not the “best” player award. If you remove Barkley from the Eagles they’re still a playoff team but if you remove Jackson from the Ravens they collapse. I’m a Lions but this is why I don’t think Goff is a true candidate because even though he’s playing great, he’s not the most valuable player on the team
I saw Anthony Richardson play once on college by what was all accounts a good game for him and he played like a limited running back who has the arm strength to throw it but the accuracy of a divining rod and the decision-making of my 7 yr old nephew after three boxes of Sour Patch kids. But I'm just some casual, occasionally sarcastic, dashingly handsome shmoe So when I heard he was a first round draft pick I thought that one game I saw must've been an outlier or else this franchise is taking a big whiff. Unfortunately for the Colts, I do not think that one game was an outlier. And it sucks because this is a team just kicking at the stable doors to be fun!
He's fun to watch. And incredibly frustrating. He just hasn't had a lot of experience or a guiding hand to help him really. Florida was a dumpster fire when he was there
Frustrating thing about Mahomes scrambling like that is he is able to that advantage of the fact that defenders are afraid to hit him in fear of taking a penalty
There were so many good passes called back by penalties with Richardson. Yeah. He's got some accuracy issues. That's undeniable. He lost an entire season of development. He's played like 13 games. He's Schrodinger's QB. He can be good. He can be bad. But he's young, inexperienced, and never had a coach actually work with him. Give him a couple of seasons.
Texans WTH happened man y’all let the city im still pissed of every player and coach outta be watching tape currently. Forget sleep when you play trash. When Titans won I knew Grave Digger was somewhere just smiling away
Anthony Richardson isn't a good passer..he wasn't a good passer in college...he had a good combine and the NFL talking heads with an agenda hyped him up no end and will spend the next 18 months making excuses for him just like they did for Justin Fields
@soulknife20 the don't criticise young black QBs agenda in the DEI NFL media...you forget Orlowsky nearly getting cancelled for giving an honest opinion about Fields pre-draft
@jaisriram295 ....You do know they are criticizing CJ Stroud, right? And Bryce Young? I'm pretty sure those guys are black. They've criticized Mahomes. You're just ignoring that to push your agenda.
@jaisriram295 Orlovsky was criticizing Fields' work ethic without any knowledge of Fields. That's why he got yelled at. He offered an opinion with zero basis.
Terrible take by Dan about Richardson. You can't hold this man accountable when the premier journalist on the podcast chronicled much of the incompletions in that game being on a lack of execution by his teammates - not him. Also its amazing how the narrative that he's inconsistent is being perpetuated when he 1) played great last week. 2) Wasn't the reason his team lost today. 3) Went up against the CONSENSUS best team in the NFL right now lol. Like we use the "Lions are the best team/SB favorites" narrative and laud them across all of sports media, but completely forget that and dont that to the player who has shown tangible evidence that he has improved and will continue to do so. Lions are just a better team that the Colts and that was the simple extent in understanding why they lost today.
Connor Orr adds so much to this pod it's crazy, much like Justin, he has been an asset to us man, so pleased to hear him every week

Correction for Marc: The Eagles didn't peak too early last season. They had a Chiefs-type, limping along but winning every game until they didn't.
