This song is about Arwen after Aragorn died. She left her children and went into Lothlorien, but the woods are now abandoned. Trees turning from green to gold refers to the Mallorn trees in the autumn. Arwen stays in her grandmother’s old realm for a time, before voluntarily giving up her life in year 121 of the fourth age. She died under the tree where she and Aragorn first met.

@@jasonito23 I won't begrudge the masses for being hooked on repetitive R&B. They can own that world of music for all I care, as long as they have enough respect to allow me to live to old age and eventually die in mine. And with songs like this, that's what I'm going to do

Suddenly Faramir stirred, and he opened his eyes, and he looked on Aragorn who bent over him; and a light of knowledge and love was kindled in his eyes, and he spoke softly. 'My lord, you called me. I come. What does the king command?’
'Walk no more in the shadows, but awake!’ said Aragorn. 'You are weary. Rest a while, and take food, and be ready when I return.’
'I will, lord,’ said Faramir. 'For who would lie idle when the king has returned?’

She sounds heavenly. The gift of music truly does run in this family. I am really impressed by this breathtaking song, and only wish there was a duet between Liv Tyler and her LOTR co-star Miranda Otto-- a love song to Aragorn.

@@painkiller2837 Even though they were fated to be with other people, there was still a time when Eowyn loved Aragorn. Since Liv Tyler and Miranda Otto both are such fine singers I think it could have been interesting to have a song they share in The Two Towers that reflects the yearning to be with him and heartache of two beautiful yet very different women he touched the lives of.

@@dratiniegg5492 Good idea, but two of them would sing so differently about how they feel about Aragorn. Arwen's love is like longing a home, and selfless love that would always give for her loved one's further good. Eowyn's is like discovering something new, and unseen in her life before, simple she attracted to him because she want to explore more and get inspired more. Anyway it would give different contrast in one song, but why not🙂

Kind of a Picardy Third there at Liv's intro. Nice. This passage is, to me, an musical parallel of what I think Waterhouse's Ophelia paintings achieved : delicacy, femininity, and a wistfulness that touches the soul and inspires the imagination.

This is so much better than the actual "Arwen's Song" from The Two Towers. I'm glad they put it in the houses of healing scene, but even then, it's only in the extended version. Cinema audiences never got to hear this till the 10th anniversary re-release.

Tolkien wrote the story with depth and meaning in everything about the universe he created. Not just some magic and existence being there from the start, he gave everything the reason and that reason has another reason, everything connects perfectly together. A Lot of things in Tolkien universe reflects some real life aspects in metaphorical way.

I disagree. Arwen is half-Elven, and the sentiment of the song almost can't be expressed in the common tongue. Yet she manages.
