Nick, your story is very similar to the position I am in! You described your background as if it were mine. Much respect man, I’ve always wanted my own business and I will be starting it once I finish building this large scale project
I'm very interested in your story as to why the other businesses. I rebranded from regular construction and handyman to a design and build model. We're building cabinets and built-ins for our projects. I love all you videos and try to use some of what I learn within my business. I'm trying to figure out how to scale the design side and cabinet side now. Seems very overwhelming.
Fantastic story Nick. I just unearthed that exact makita drill from my grandfathers shop. He’s been gone four years now. Going to get replacement batteries and get it going again for hinges and drawer hardware in the cabinet shop.

Nick , great story. not boring at all, actually made me emotional as I listened to you. I started following you not too long ago. Great work. Your beginnings were similar to mine. I am actually a Wentworth grad and also a bit older. I actually did get a lot of great knowledge at Wentworth and still use some of what I had learned. Your story about meeting your wife and a good reason of going to college is a bit the reverse of me. I wish I had stayed in Boston but I headed back home to be with my now wife. (all good.) You made the right choice to leave the company and start your business. I did not and worked my way up in the same positions for a residential home developer doing subdivisions until... You made the right decision. I wish you the best and you will continue doing great things as I have viewed your excellent work. I am glad I watched this video, It me gave a different side of your person. good stuff!!
Wow, I can't believe people there are people complaining about the length of this. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and you are someone I like to look to and say, "That's where I have to be." Seriously awesome story, I'm going to look to see if you expanded on all the aspects of NS Builders but if you haven't then I really hope you do because I am very interested.

Based on this video I definitely understand why your business management is structured the way that it is.
Excellent video. I think a great audience to tell this story to (and you may have already done this) would be middle school aged kids. And work wherever you can to promote trade schools. We need these people more than desk jockeys.
I have a question about the “Beacon Hill Final Walkthrough” video.
How did you make the exposed sides of the upper cabinets over the sink white? Did you fill the screw holes and paint the sides or use a cover panel?

This information will be very helpful for anyone in your field...and it wasn't too long, no worries.
Started a comment that wasn’t terribly complementary. The story of stumble-stepping your way to owning a business doing high-end work in high-dollar neighborhoods isn’t that interesting. My real take away was: you’ve got some talent, you’ve got some balls and you know when you should hire someone. Why did that take over 25 minutes? That’s a 45 second story.
That said, I think you’re cool. I love the way you keep great carpenters working. I wish you the best.

Man oh man. It’s such a frustrating reflection when I think back to it.
@@NSBuilders I know. The places we’re pushed by the people we trust. UofM certainly did nothing for me (well, I learned some Chemistry).
You are, I think, a bit younger. In my day, we didn’t even interact w/ shopclass kids. Except to buy weed when we were both supposed to be in class. I was in a weird spot; most of the cool kids went to Ivy-type schools. Never gonna be my game. My parents would have paid for school but, a home-bound loser with a BS degree wouldn’t have helped anyone.
Also, I watched a video that was 24 times as long as it needed to be. Twice. So… .
That old attitude of the bad students end up in the trades is probably the biggest reason why there is a shortage
