Love this song. Love their story. Thank you, Cher for all you've given. Your many talents are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sonny and the incomparable Harold Batiste. May you both rest in peace.
Oh my God I never forget this beautiful couple ,In 1973 my daughter was born in NEW JERSEY ,THAT WAS MY FAVOR PROGRAM ,SONNY WAS VERY FUNNY ,I LOVE BOTH ,🇵🇷
1968 I'm sitting in the front yard of a friends house, in Phoenix Arizona, with him and another buddy when from across the street out the front door walks Sonny and Cher. They walk up to a Mercedes parked right in front of us. We got up and talked to them while they waited for this guy. They were just awesome. They were checking out the house for a scene in movie they making called Chastity. She was 5 years older then me was so hot and Sonny was so nice. Will always remember it. Anyway great memory!
The golden time for Cher is "Sonny And Cher" show. I love this show and watch over and over again. I love the original version more. Cher is always talent and beautiful.
What a big surprise with this video !! baby don´t go it´s probably my favourite sonny & cher song of the 60´S. Thank U very much for share this rare clip.
I have been searching for this video for a long, long time. When I was a kid, I wrote to Cher and asked if they could dress up and sing the old songs, and she responded, I have it framed-and then I saw this on the show !!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Yeah ... This was a great part of the show ... If I remember right they did it about 3 times ... I wish they had continued it ... but at least they did it more than once ...
Magic. Sonny Bono was a brilliant producer and, although simple, he wrote beautiful, sincere, and universal songs. Of course, his greatest accomplishment was to bring Cher to the world. For that, I, we, will always be eternally grateful.
As being a "Baby Boomer", best ever Era in my lifetime. Music WAS music and will never be repeated again. Sonny & Cher have always been my idols. I hear their singing, close my eyes & drift "back in time" Ty for such a Fantastic CLASSIC ❤❤ (05-08-2021)
How absolutely sad... those 2 were so good together & had it all! Looks like (somehow) they could have "worked-it-out" & not have divorced. They were (by far) my favorite entertainers back in the 70's! So very tragic how Sonny's life ended. Cher has definitely declined in her personal life over past decades.... sad.
Bravo for showing us this clip! As one of their/her oldest fans, yes since this song first aired on, The Lloyd Thaxton Show, I have never seen this. Thanks for the smile and many great memories of my hero Cher!
I have always loved Sonny and Cher … and I’m old enough to have loved them through their entire careers. In fact, I got to see them perform live twice (thank you mom and dad) and still have my Sonny and Cher scrapbooks from the 70s. Yes, scrapbooks plural. But looking back, it really was a very odd and slightly unlikely act. They are so different and yet they had such amazing chemistry. I don’t know. I’m just reminiscing and thinking out loud. ❤❤❤
This sweet song always gets forgotten. And I remember this episode so well, thank you for bringing it back. @katos, how awesome to see that and @fluff, how cool! God bless Sonny and Cher for all the wonderful music they left us.
I'm as cynical as they come but I found this story so touching and 90% believable (Sonny didn't have that haircut when he worked for Phil Spector in 1963)- really wonderful. Sonny and Cher could never happen today and isn't that a little sad. The 1960's was a decade that gave birth to a pop renaissance the likes of which we may not see again for a very long time.
What has always interested me is it doesn't matter when it was or is with Cher, they talked about 'the good ole days'. They were talking about them here in 1977 and on Letterman in 1987. I got the feeling there might have been a rift between them in the 90's from her interviews, but it was so obvious at his funeral she still loved him. She still tweets about him.
@@kimberlykline6506 I don't read tweets so I can't answer that but Cher did an interview in November 2018 promoting her Broadway play "The Cher Show". The interviewer asked her about the men she's been with over the decades & she said the one she misses & loves the most is Sonny & "if he were to walk through that door right now, we would be Sonny & Cher in about 2 seconds".
@@tpajay Thanks for Cher-ing.lol. seriously though I think anyone who followed their careers and music knows these two were special together. The letterman performance and his funeral proved that. My favorite song of theirs.
This is a great clip, very poignant. For some reason, this song was kind of ignored after the duo hit big on TV. I remember this episode well. Thanks so much. It was a kind of "real' moment : )
I have to say, I'm a 25 year old listening to this in 2014 and I just think Cher (and Sonny) is the best. I can't wait to see her next month on tour. I also gotta say as much as I love the original recording of this song, there's a certain quality listening to Cher sing her lyrics more than a decade after it came out. Her voice really deepened and matured in the time and it just makes the song sound even better. I don't know if that makes any sense, but this just might be my favorite "version" of this song.
YOU ARE THE MOST TALENTED 25 YEAR OLD I HAVE EVER KNOWN! BRILLIANT! "TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE" *( face book me,Mark Pollock Boca Raton not a coward here! ;-)
Cher is a Superstar, Sonny was a genius, he could charm the pants of anyone, no wander he became a politician. His colleagues on Capital Hill all adored him, Democrat and Republican...Rip Sonny Bono... you are incredibly missed!
Very articulate well said. Cher certainly eternally proclaims,"There would be No "Cher" without "Sonny". The musical contribution Sonny and "Sonny and Cher" provided, with their TV Entertainment Variety D Shows, and string of Hit songs,Fashion and style influenced an entire generation now unquestionably a part of history. Cher;s six decades of number one singles worldwide. Another milestone. Thrilling to view Cher at 25,the making of a great entertainer and performer for our culture! I so appreciate your comment, much validation! BEST Regards,Mark
I'm 56 having a nostalgic moment 2020. I LOVED Sonny & Cher when I was younger and still love Cher. When they sang together I got you Babe on Dave Letterman I cried my friggin ass off. They really did have so love for one another it still showed me 😢😢
Oh, wow! Thanks for posting this, gallery606. I didn't know this existed. I also didn't know this was their first hit as Sonny and Cher. I thought their first recording was The Beat Goes On. I love how they stayed friends after the divorce.
I know the person who played rhythm guitar on the original recording. As a drummer, I backed him up many times when we would do Bar Gigs in Southern CA. His name is Lonney; he is a great singer too.
Everybody can say anything they want about Sonny but would we be enjoying Cher without 'Sonny' & Cher first? May he R.I.P. And she is, has and always will be 2nd to none !!! Her D2K concert is proof. I seen it in Boston 4/14. It was the best concert I've ever seen !!! So good I'm going again to see her 9/14. If she comes here a 3rd time I'm gonna have to sell one of my Harleys to pay the credit card bill...LoL?
I agree he made her sonny rip I believe they really loved and cared for each other she said a beautiful speech at the funeral one thing that got me is when she said no matter how long ilive or who I meet son will always be for me
On this day in 1965 {February 17th} Sonny and Cher performed "Baby Don't Go" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Six months later on August 21st it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #8 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... Originally released in 1964 but failed to make the national charts; after the success of "I've Got You, Babe" it was re-released and entered the Top 100 in August 1965... And on October 11th, 1965 it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} in Canada...
I've never seen this segment. It's a great story. They had a lot of courage at the time. And I think even though it was a struggle, those were happy times.
Even post-divorce, they just had the most incredible chemistry!

Happy 84th birthday (Feb 16) Sonny! RIP. For those of us who grew up in the 1960's/70's, you & Cher gave us good music & lots of laughter!
