200 years ago Kaziranga wildlife area was twice as big and ranged from Assam to Northern Part of today's Bangladesh and Southern Bhutan. The area also had lesser one horned rhino (Javan rhino), asian two horned rhino (Sumatran rhino), Asiatic lion, Asiatic cheetah, Asiatic caracal, Indian wolf and multiple extinct bird and reptile species.
