  • This is part eight of my seven part series on supplemental pieces of samurai armor - yes part 8, a bonus video. It will cover what the particular piece is, as well as some of the variations of it when applicable. This video is informational about the historical armor. I will have a separate video series for a review of each piece of the armor. Did you know what this piece of armor is, or what it does, before watching the video? Comment below!

    This was a great series.
I quite like the idea of the manchira cuz it's just one item in place of a half dozen. Seems like it would just feel more secure.

Thanks! If I didn't already have tate-eri on my suit, I would go with one, and have the kikko gane extended to the bottom to replace the armored belt as well. It also feels more "familiar" to me considering my time in European style armor, almost like a mail shirt feels under a cuirass.

Two questions, what da h. plate armor doin in samurai room? Maybe 3 different samurai sets be better 😉and another, you fight in in samurai armor in compeyitions, becose talkin a lot of protection?

East meets West! I have done many competitions in European armor, but not Japanese. Without quite a few modifications, it is not safe for most types of actual combat in modern day context. The helmet / mask, hands, and inner arms being the biggest changes necessary.

Thank you. It had a lot of customizations at the time. Now, it is available on the Taisho class page on Iron Mountain Armory. I added quite a few extras to the base suit that were not in the standard list by contacting them and asking, not including the supplemental armor pieces. If you're interested in one, check out their site. If you contact them, tell them Samurai James sent you. The owner knows me and will recognize the name.
