It´s funny that these news channels never mention three things when talking about "Nukes in Finland" and "Russia had to put troops to the Finnish border":
1) Russia already has the majority of it´s nuclear 1st and 2nd strike capability quite close to Finland. If Finland would have a couple of nukes, then the balance is still tipped quite much towards Russia.
2) Currently Finnish law (Nuclear Energy Act 990/1987) forbids any nuclear weapons on Finnish soil. There are no implications that this will be changed in the near future.
3) Russia has always had (well since the Empire at least) a strong military presence on the Finnish border. In fact, when the full invasion of Ukraine started, Russia pulled up to 80% of the men and equipment from the bases next to Finland and shipped them to Ukraine. And many of those are not ever coming back. Also Russia has not made any moves to get the troops leves even back to pre-war levels, let alone increase it.
So please, do not fearmonger on topics where there is no fear to monger. Russian ambassador is just echoing narratives that are many years old.

Actually Finland joining NATO is a bigger risk than Ukraine.. St Petersburg is just stone throw distance from Finland border
You should look at the map. St.Petersburg is closer to the Estonian than the Finnish border, therefore NATO did not get any closer to St.Petersburg.

@tbraghavendran, that's the only thing they have ,that's old technology. any country in the world, even less developed countries like North Korea, can make nuclear weapons. If every country in NATO put 1% of their GDP in the missile defense, that would solve most of the problem there. Because nothing else Russia has comes close to Western technology, they still don't know how to develop stealth fighter aircraft. America developed their first one that's made public like 50years ago.

If russians are afraid of Nato/Ukrainians, then they can build tiger teeth within their own borders, not on Ukrainian soil. Russian leaders just needs enemies and conflicts to stay in power, that is why they say that Ukraine/NATO is threatening Russia. If Ukraine/NATO is a threat to Russia then why there are no Russian soldiers (except basic guarding) on the Russian NATO borders ?
Based on intelligence information, the resistance was supposed to be minimal and the people on the Russian side, Putin was told what he wants to hear. Russia invaded Ukraine because it thought it could be conquered easily, but he failed.

Due to weak leadership in Finland. Their mistake was joining NATO. The maintaining of the neutral relationship with Russia was the best course of action for Finland.

Finnish law does not allow nuclear weapons its soil, everyone knows this. The USA is not placing nuclear weapons in any new NATO country. There are already Nato countries like Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland near Russia like Finland is, none of these have Nukes. Submarines have been invented.

Why should we do that? Nato is a giant success which successfully has secured its member states ever since it was established. But sure the ruzzkies would like Nato to fail, so they can get free access to further conquering souvereign states, like they do with Ukraine.

The answer lies in a question would you mind sacrificing your own son/mom/brother for someone in a different country who is not even your neighbour.
This same question UK/France must answer before they even say what you propose.
So just an FYI... Finland gas rate went from .23 to 2.30 per kwh. The energy crisis will continue to wreck all European Countries and that 2% GDP into military arms sold from US will cut their social spending. A total fail move to head in this direction after all this time neutral. Instead of putting away the old blood debts and integrating Russia into Europe in the 1990s we went full steam ahead isolating threatening and making a laughing stock of Russia in general.
Now Europe is de-industrialized. Europe is in freefall. Ukraine is decimated. The US is printing printing printing more money for bombs and weapons. Meanwhile China and Russia grow ever closer and have the upper hand in manufacturing in resources in all things practical. I am not sure what madness was stirred in the minds of Western leaders but we have lost our credibility thrown international stability in the garbage and we have no diplomats or statesmen in the West left to talk peace.
It's funny because the Russian city of Kaliningrad, which is right in the heart of Europe, has more nuclear weapons and missiles pointed towards Europe! But when NATO places missiles there, it's considered threatening! What a double standard we have here! Russian hypocrisy, and if you don't understand it, you're being intellectually dishonest.

Ukraine was neutral, what happened to them ? Finland and Sweden joined NATO only because Russia is aggressive. Non-alignment is no longer an option, Russia sees neutrality as weakness. Putin said "Russia's border does not end anywhere" a few years ago and now he is making it happen.

Russia has a strategy and it does not involve making a first strike. They tell Finland they are watching them closely since US/NATO moved nuclear weapons and a ‘volunteers’ into the country. Russia is in no hurry. They have energy, food and weapons, while NATO is running out of all of these.

Finland does not threaten anyone, Finland is a peaceful country unlike Russia but better be prepared when there is a crazy neighbor in the east. Russia has invaded Ukraine and threatened Finland and Sweden with military action. Threatened Invading Baltic countries, Poland, Moldova,Istanbul, Alaska and East side of Germany. @@londop.a.3048 The Finnish PM has been running his mouth but regardless, at this point is doesn't matter. UA has collapsed. Remains to be seen whether NATO wants to throw soldiers and more money into the meat grinder or not. The US won't with elections in Nov and UA support finished amongst G7 citizens.

In reality Finland joining NATO has nothing to do with the USA. Russia invaded Ukraine and Finland estimated its neighbors had become more aggressive and unpredictable than before, so Finland could use a defensive alliance to make a Russian invasion less likely.
Another issue was that Russia threatened Finland and said it will retaliate If Finland joins NATO. Not joining would have looked like we take orders from Russia, which cannot be.
