My wife passed last year at 78 years old , when I'm hearing this song and he sings the lyrics , "I long to see you in the morning light , I long to reach for you in the night " , I break down every time . I have thought of the love of my life every time I have heard this song for 55 years .
I hear this song and I think of my wonderful wife. Every time it's her. Riding my motorcycle to go to her house to visit, I'd play this song in my head. Married her in 1970. Still married to her. Wisest choice I ever made.
This song played a big role in helping me make one of the most important decisions in my life. I had been single for nearly 20 years after a very nasty divorce. I had 3 children to raise and they too had been traumatized by their father leaving, so I dedicated myself to being a full-time mom. After they were all grown, I decided it was time for me. I jumped into the dating pool and flailed around a couple of times, but then, quite unexpectedly, I met a kind, caring, heartbroken widower. All the boxes checked for us and we hit it off immediately. Guess who got scared after a couple of weeks? Yep. Me! So, I told him I needed to step back a bit and figure out if this was the direction I wanted to go or not. After a painful couple of weeks filled with uncertainty, this song, Lay Lady Lay, came on the radio. I was literally on my kitchen floor doing some heavy duty scrubbing when these lyrics, I'd heard many times before, suddenly seemed like I was hearing them for the first time and that they were for ME --- "Why wait any longer for the world to begin You can have your cake and eat it too Why wait any longer for the one you love When he's standing in front of you." That was it! I knew from that very second that I was almost throwing away the love of my life. Thankfully, he had been patiently waiting for me to figure out what I wanted. He was there with open arms ---- and has been for the last 7 years. We were both married months before our 60th birthdays and I could not be happier. This song was our first dance at our wedding. Thanks Mr. Dylan. You saved me.
Its amazing how faded memories suddenly come to life when you hear an old favorite song. Your brain is like a hard drive of everything thats ever happened to you.
My husband passed away at age 30, second tour in Iraq. I’ve been single for 8 years. I recently met a really respectful and sweet man. We had our first real date last night but it wasn’t the first time we have spent time together talking. We spent time at his house talking last night and I felt really comfortable around him, which is huge bc I’ve been alone for so long. It was late and he asked me if I wanted to stay over, just to sleep bc it’s a long drive home. We held each other all night, nothing more, but it was amazing and brought me to this song. I think this could be real and that scares the hell out of me. Perfect bc it was innocent. I just feel this is right and my husband would’ve wanted me to be happy. I hope everyone listening has found happiness bc we all deserve it.
You can't live in the past, nor can you change it. But that doesn't mean you have to forget it, either. Your experiences make you who you are. Just ride the rapids and do what makes you happy. Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure your late husband would tell you the same thing.
Reba, I'm so sorry for your loss! Your husband has paid such a high price on the altar of freedom. May we never forget his loving generous spirit ! PS, If I can speak for your late husband, As much as he 💕 loved you, he would want you to be happy! As my late grandfather would tell us in times of pain and sorrow, We have to keep breathing, keep moving, live in a way that would make them proud! So live life to the fullest !
I’ve always prayed / wished / hoped ,I would find a man that felt that way about me . I thought it happened once but I was so wrong . Melody, lyrics and performance are as close to perfection as can be. Even if he'd written nothing else, Dylan would deserve our gratitude for this wonderful piece.
OMG do you know how many of the Rolling Stone Top 15 songs of all time were written by Dylan. Dylan, sold his soul to the devil for all of the incredible songs he's written. I even love most of his new stuff as well as all of our iconic 60's anthems.
My husband passed away a year ago. "I long to reach for you in the night" never really meant anything to me, I just loved the song. But those words are so touching. There's no sadder feeling than waking up, in the middle of the night and remembering he's not there anymore.
My husband died 6 years ago. This was his song to me when we first met. Love the lyrics “why wait any longer for the one you love when he’s standing in front of you” x
I was in Viet Nam when this song came out. Dylan was always a favorite of mine with his song writing, poetic expression and talent. People would always say his voice sucked but I never agreed. He had a style that lived on through the ages as we all see now. He paved the way for so many other bands through the years. My brothers and myself have always talked and felt we were so lucky to have been part of this generation the likes of which will probably never be seen again.
Mr. Silva . . I appreciate your service to our country. My heart goes out to all those men & women who sacrificed their souls for us. I was born in 1957 (8th of 10 kids). My brother’s and sister’s introduced me to some great tunes; Dylan’s music being one of my favorite. I wish you and your family well 😷
I remember hearing this song on the radio in 1969 in my Dad's new Galaxie 500. We were going to see my Grandma in Seattle. it was a beautiful spring day (a Saturday I believe) and we were all dressed up for a super lunch! I had a brand new Hotwheels car too. I miss those days so much and this song brings it all rushing back.
This brings me back to the summer of 1969, One hot muggy summer night I woke up around 2:00 a.m. It was a full moon and I heard this song playing on the radio in my brothers' room next to mine, the song so beautiful and haunting set a mood I will never forget. Every time I hear this song it brings me back to that night when I was very young and full of hope.
Had been home about a year from the military and a friend played this for me and I borrowed it when I took it back it was in bad shape drinks spilled ect. He never said a word...Thanks Miguel ! ol man way down in TX JD GREAT SONG AND LP. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR POSTING!
You may still have Hope. Don't you know our Patriarchs in the Tanach were ever against the greatest of odds, suffering terrible strifes when that Ancient of Days would always pull them through!
My son was recently singing this song while walking around the house, I asked him where he knew it from. He never listens to my old records but I have quite a collection. Turns out he has his friends over every odd weekend to drink beers and listen to music - MY music - while I work the night shift. I thought he was having a girlfriend, was I wrong. :)
Does it really matter if he prefers to have sex with a man instead of a women? It is such a small part of what makes up a human being. Who the hell cares.? He may not give you grandchildren but there are no guarantees in life.
@Dmitry The Kebob Remover Oh My God what have I done ?? I missed it by a mile. She wasn't even talking about what I thought she was talking about. I'm sorry about this and I feel so stupid.
@@evanmorrow1234 Stop pushing your degenerate views into the world , his sons has a duty to become a father and keep his blood line flowing into the future .
Recorded in Nashville using Nashville studio musicians, this album is a masterpiece. Part of his album "Blonde On Blonde" were also recorded in Nashville. Absolutely great albums.
so sorry for your loss lost mine 25 years ago night before Fathers Day, it will get easier i promise, but songs will always be a part of your recovery and for the rest of your life mine is Over The Rainbow
I love this song. Not only is it a haunting song that echos from my childhood- every player on it is a legend. Charlie Daniels on guitar! Dylan himself. Pete Drake on pedal steel- who invented the talk box that Peter Frampton made famous. Even Kenny Buttrey on drums is a story- none other than Kris Kristofferson holds the bongos and cowbell in his hand for Kenny to play! Even the human percussion stand is a legend on this track. It truly captures another time and place, my favorite Dylan song.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan, thank you for your wonderful comments on my post,it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listenin to my music….Love ❤️ ❤
My late hubby used to play this for me when I first met him.I thought cheeky!!!! BUT since his tragic death I listened to the fabulous lyrics. Thank you my love 💔💔
I have a friend who is just absolutly gorgeous in my opinion. Blond hair, green eyes and a slim body. I feel the same way when I look at her. I just want to enjoy her beauty. I feel love for her like no other girl I've loved before.
@@simonmadi1177 Why not make her yours??? Change that friend status...you can do it... Starting with making sure she hears Your dedication of THIS song to Her! : )
I tried doing that but she's looking to either get married or just have children. I'm not looking for either one of those. Also she's 29 and I'm 57. She was honest with me and told me I'm too old for her. It bothered me , but she was right and at least she was honest with me. But I love her as a friend and that's good enough for me and I'm still looking for a girl closer to my age who wants the same things as I do.
This was my dads favorite, I'm playing this because I'm reminiscing about him. I still miss him this day, I wish heaven could have visitors because I would do anything to have one last talk with him. I remember him saying Bob Dylan had a wonderful voice before his accident. Dad you were right, one of the greatest folk singers of all time.
Jim, I agree 😇. I lost my Dad at 56. 23 yrs ago. Boy !! if heaven could have visitors we would All have a huge reunion, and no would ever leave😄😄😄. This song brings back such great childhood memories of my dad as well. My dad enjoyed the Isley Brothers version. But there is something about this version that is so very sacred, innocent and intimate. As an adult it carries a New meaning , but it always reminds me of my dad and stepmother. Beautiful cherished memories ❤ ✝️🙏. Till we meet again
Working Title, in that standpoint of bones, I feel as if this song is in my 🧬 DNA🔬and even reckon that if you were to lift my fingerprint from a surface or my lip print from some kind of drinking vessel, I used, like a soda can, for instance and viewed it on a glass slide under a microscope, you would see traces of bits and pieces of the lyrics to that song.
I was just laying her awake in the middle of the night when this song came to mind.,I was just a teen when it came out.At 70 the words have even more meaning,❤️
We graduated from high school (in L.A. California) in 1969. My friend George (gone for over 10 years now) went to Malibu for an early morning breakfast before hitting the beach. I remember being in the cafe and thinking this is the last time we'll be in this part of our life, before college (or career), and without the income and subsequent debts that young people experience. I knew this was special, but didn't know why at the time. Bless you George, for the times we had through high school, and the feelings of being on this world at this time and at this maturity level. The jukebox song we played put it all into perspective, so thank you Bob Dylan for allowing me to reminisce about a specific time in my life, before major love relationships, income and debt levels and overall moving into the next phase of our existence into this world. Happy new (future) years to all the human race if looks into one human's comments. What a world.
That steel comes in and it's over. Sobbing mess. I cry for the feeling he emotes in these lyrics. It's all too much, sometimes. How flattering and humbling to've been Mr Dylan's muse, I assume Sara.
Late summer 1969, my high school crush had dumped me and I was working on an old house all by myself near the Quincy shipyard, I recall sitting on the porch azure blue skies with puffy clouds with a hint of fall and this song comes on my small radio, i cry.
the first bob dylan song I ever heard. his voice, the lyrics, the songs melody, the feeling. nothing before even came close. I still play it, 50 years later. just as good.
I was born in late 1968 and my parents met in College and graduated in 65', (In the midwest), so they were more folk than hippie generation. My dad liked and had Dylan albums, and also stranger singer song writers like Loudon Wainwright, early Jerry Jeff Walker etc. As a rocknroll loving kid in the 70s I wished they were more into the harder music so I'd have a better selection of their albums to choose from, but now at 53, and after really delving into rocks history on youtube since 2008, I've realized how important (like them or not) every great artist was from Elvis Presley to Elvis Costello in that mind-blowingly great 25 year musical era from 1955 to 1980, and Bob Dylans role in music and lyrics you can't say enough about. Being able to write a song like Hard Rain at 21 in 1962, when you grew up in a small town in Minnesota is really unbelievable, and then backing that up with all the other great songs he wrote throughout the 1960s, definitely makes him one of the most important artists of all time!
My late Biological Father painted a portrait to this song back in '69. He gave it to Me in '74. I have never seen anything else like it. He was a very talented artist. I never realized until later that it was because he loved this song
This song brings up a memory from when I was a teenager. My dad (rip) took me out and we had a few drinks, it was the first time I got drunk. When we came home, my mom and dad were in the hallway and I was singing this from the top of my lungs. Good times.
Whenever I hear someone going on about how much they hate Dylan's voice, I post this song, sung in his natural voice. They never respond, but if they did I imagine it would be something like "I didn't know Bob Dylan sang that...I always loved that song."
I'm simply love this song. I have searched for it a long time, because this is not a typical Bob Dylan song. It sounds a bit, like a horse is riding all the way long. And the perfect voice with the gently weeping country guitar - wow!
This song was played at my Dad's funeral a few days ago, we were close when I was young but grew apart in my teens. I'm 41 and we didn't speak for four years before he passed away. My mum had a hand in that and I struggle to forgive her. Such a beautiful song and this will always remind me of him x I love you Dad xx
Paul, I'm sorry 😔 to read your comment about growing apart from your dad when you were a teenager, when you needed his support and love the most, because that particular age decade of teen years is quite difficult as your mind, soul and body are transitioning from child to an adult, dads typically, since they are men and wired different than women, have a hard time understanding this special life journey and even become VERY upset over certain normal aspects of growing up even though they too may have experimented with certain things and been in similar situations themselves as teens. Sorry to learn of the friction between the two of you and your loss. Such a sad situation to be in...😢😭
My mother passed away on February 29, 2020. This song reminds me of her, she was and will always be my everything. I miss you mom, thanks for everything!❤
Haven't heard this in 50 years. Woke up yesterday with lay lady lay stuck in my head. For two days now. Thank you, U-Tube

When music was music - depth, rich tones, great lyrics. It belongs in a "Hall of Fame of Great Music."
My partner who is oblivious to music generally just came in as I'm playing this and said "His best song ever". Well, he could be right on this one!

OMG do you know how many of the Rolling Stone Top 15 songs of all time were written by Dylan. Dylan, sold his soul to the devil for all of the incredible songs he's written. I even love most of his new stuff as well as all of our iconic 60's anthems.
Couldn't agree more... a true masterpiece!
Totally Agree.
This song never gets old. It has a timeless quality that still resonates today
This 66 year old who was blown away with all this young man's music, in the 70's that was at its best , MISS all his music,
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
Close, came out in 1969. I was 15 and we boys thought ohh la la.
My husband passed away a year ago. "I long to reach for you in the night" never really meant anything to me, I just loved the song. But those words are so touching. There's no sadder feeling than waking up, in the middle of the night and remembering he's not there anymore.
It gets better I promise you
so very sorry for your pain ❤️
odeb .... Been there my darling .... It will improve I promise . I was only aged 35 and pregnant with our son, 23 years later I never forget xx
My prayers and condolences. It's been a heart wrenching couple years losses close loved ones. Trust in God and ease only fond memories 🙏❣️
You've never woke up next to big buba with your arse like a coffee cup
It is 2022 and I am still listening to Bob Dylan’s best love song.
Hello Olivia 👋 how are you ??
@@cormacdavid7355 ciao David! 🙋♀️😍😘💘💖
Love minus zero and to make you feel my love?
2023 now Olivia.
Love this song..great songwriting and still current in 2024 ❤💎
“His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean, and you’re the best thing that he’s ever seen” is quite possible the best line ever written…
His greatest line was, “ I gave her my heart, but she wanted my soul” 😂😂😂
My vote is for he was brutally handsome and she was terminally pretty....Eagles life in fast lane lol
Describes the husband.
Or "Well the last thing i remember before i stripped and kneeled was that trainload of fools bogged down in a magnetic field".
Maybe?🤔🎵
My husband died 6 years ago. This was his song to me when we first met. Love the lyrics “why wait any longer for the one you love when he’s standing in front of you” x
Yes, that was a great Lyric.
Sending hugs. Love never dies. ❤so sorry for you loneliness and missing him.
I'm so sorry
Don’t get married. It’s toxic.
Easily....one of the Classic's of All-Time.
One of the most beautiful love songs which brings back so many memories now that I'm 75 !!!
Thank you for your service! I agree with you!
Mr. Silva . . I appreciate your service to our country. My heart goes out to all those men & women who sacrificed their souls for us. I was born in 1957 (8th of 10 kids). My brother’s and sister’s introduced me to some great tunes; Dylan’s music being one of my favorite. I wish you and your family well 😷
Thank you for your service 🙏
Props.

Beautiful story!
What did you have for lunch?
Do you still have a great car like before you went to jail?
@@JimmyAyele Thank you very much. I just saw my Mom n Dad yesterday and reminded them of this and they just sat and smiled... :)
fntime OTW (off the wall) comment!
You got to live the most fruitful and inspiring period of the 20th century, don't be sad.
That is a beautiful anecdote
Had been home about a year from the military and a friend played this for me and I borrowed it when I took it back it was in bad shape drinks spilled ect. He never said a word...Thanks Miguel ! ol man way down in TX JD GREAT SONG AND LP. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR POSTING!
You may still have Hope. Don't you know our Patriarchs in the Tanach were ever against the greatest of odds, suffering terrible strifes when that Ancient of Days would always pull them through!

Facts! 👍❤️☺️
The great Poet of our time. A man of great wisdom
That's why I love youtube, to read such lovely comment
Does it really matter if he prefers to have sex with a man instead of a women? It is such a small part of what makes up a human being. Who the hell cares.? He may not give you grandchildren but there are no guarantees in life.
@Dmitry The Kebob Remover Oh My God what have I done ?? I missed it by a mile. She wasn't even talking about what I thought she was talking about. I'm sorry about this and I feel so stupid.

I too; use to love singing and playing Bob Dylan's *Classic!! ( ... sorry 'bout your loss). My Condolences. (my Dad's gone now too ... )
This track is too beautiful not to revisit and comment on. I get goosebumps hearing the words and lyrics, effortless from a genius.
Always gives me shivers, such sensual lyrics only Dylan could compose.
Agree.. Dylan is a TRUE poetic genius..
Thanks for that backstory. I can see it in my mind!!
so agree.
Thanks for these awesome details!
Need more cow bells
Nice...When you are a premier artist you get to work with the creme of the crop!!!
I never tire of hearing this song.

The most romantic song ever. He wants her to lay there so he can just look at her and enjoy her beauty. God, I love this song!
You painted the picture perfectly Mel......
I have a friend who is just absolutly gorgeous in my opinion. Blond hair, green eyes and a slim body. I feel the same way when I look at her. I just want to enjoy her beauty. I feel love for her like no other girl I've loved before.
Exactly!
@@simonmadi1177
Why not make her yours???
Change that friend status...you can do it...
Starting with making sure she hears Your dedication of THIS song to Her! : )
I tried doing that but she's looking to either get married or just have children. I'm not looking for either one of those. Also she's 29 and I'm 57. She was honest with me and told me I'm too old for her. It bothered me , but she was right and at least she was honest with me.
But I love her as a friend and that's good enough for me and I'm still looking for a girl closer to my age who wants the same things as I do.
What a love song the adoration for that lady is limitless
I'm 66 years young & I Still Love hearing his songs It puts me in A good mood
Your not alone, I'm 66 also and this song made 1969 one of my greatest years I've ever lived
WE ALL MEET AGAIN ONE DAY, SPIRIT NEVER DIES, GOD BLESS.
God bless to all, prayers for everyone’s eternal reward.😊
❤❤
Great resurrection on the future cards... You'll meet up again... The account of Lazarus gives me hope...
I woke up with this song stuck in my head.
I never knew that this song was sung by Bob Dylan 😮❤ Listening in 2024!!!
😃😀
i have been listening to this a lot lately, so simple and beautiful.
Mac Davis covered it in the 70's
I recently heard in a Howard Stern interview with Barbra Streisand , that Bob Dylan wrote “ Lay Lady Lay ” about , Streisand. Cool trivia question.
I'm here !!
I can't get enough of this song. Dylan is so talented.
😎🤘🏼🎸🎶
Thanks, Bob, for such an iconic song.
This song has been in my life for so long that it feels as if it’s in my bones
Working Title, in that standpoint of bones, I feel as if this song is in my 🧬 DNA🔬and even reckon that if you were to lift my fingerprint from a surface or my lip print from some kind of drinking vessel, I used, like a soda can, for instance and viewed it on a glass slide under a microscope, you would see traces of bits and pieces of the lyrics to that song.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I was just laying her awake in the middle of the night when this song came to mind.,I was just a teen when it came out.At 70 the words have even more meaning,❤️
It just sounds better and better as it ages. A true masterpiece.💕

Beautiful words, deservin a great song
Bob Dylan - technically - has a very average voice. But nobody could sing sing this better, It's a masterpiece.

That steel comes in and it's over. Sobbing mess. I cry for the feeling he emotes in these lyrics. It's all too much, sometimes. How flattering and humbling to've been Mr Dylan's muse, I assume Sara.

This song makes me tear up for all of best reasons.
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here.
This song always reminds me of living and working in New York City back in the day.
Masterpiece, indeed.
Late summer 1969, my high school crush had dumped me and I was working on an old house all by myself near the Quincy shipyard, I recall sitting on the porch azure blue skies with puffy clouds with a hint of fall and this song comes on my small radio, i cry.
I'm not sure why, but I can't stop repeating this song, there's something about it that's encapsulating
The lyrics are simple but majestic. It's timeless. Everyone who hears this is mesmerised and hooked. It's too beautiful
My ALL TIME Favorite Dylan song. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Used to know someone I called Houdini. This song makes me think of him, even long past time to forget. Glad you like it. It is beautiful.
the first bob dylan song I ever heard. his voice, the lyrics, the songs melody, the feeling. nothing before even came close. I still play it, 50 years later. just as good.
2022. I listen every once in a while. Sometimes I cry, sometimes I smile, but I'm always always so thankful for the memories it recalls.
Great music, at a time the world was SANE!!!!!!!
He's always praised for his lyrics but his knack to put the right music to the lyrics is amazing.
My late Biological Father painted a portrait to this song back in '69. He gave it to Me in '74. I have never seen anything else like it. He was a very talented artist. I never realized until later that it was because he loved this song
Oh my gosh, I love this song. Bob Dylan is so awesome
I will never stop loving this magic music of Bob Dylan.
This song brings up a memory from when I was a teenager. My dad (rip) took me out and we had a few drinks, it was the first time I got drunk. When we came home, my mom and dad were in the hallway and I was singing this from the top of my lungs. Good times.
That's beautiful.

Beautiful
Thank god for great memories.
Whenever I hear someone going on about how much they hate Dylan's voice, I post this song, sung in his natural voice. They never respond, but if they did I imagine it would be something like "I didn't know Bob Dylan sang that...I always loved that song."
Totally get you wish.He would have kept to the style or at least alternated between this style and the other
The joy of the Internet is that incredible musicians will always be appreciated.
I've lost count of the posts by young people turning on to the music of the 60's or 70's. It's encouraging to see.
My husband and I have been married 56 years and this is our song! Whenever I hear it it reminds me of us!
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
50 years ago today my husband and I had our first kiss. This song was playing.
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
I'm simply love this song.
So sad!
Such a sad situation to be in...😢😭
Condolences.
sorry, man
