How does it work? | Bi-Generation explained
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 гру 2023
- The 60th anniversary have finally come to an end with the release of The Giggle. This episode saw a historical change to the cannon of timelords, known as Bi-Generation. This form of regeneration results in two incarnations living simultaneously, which is unlike anything we have seen prior. As of now, the science behind this phenomenon is unexplained, and so today I attempt to fill that gap.

How does it work? Well, RTD thinks of it then sticks it in the script and lets us work it out for ourselves.
That is how it feels right now. Im sure we will get more down the line.
@@TheLaneDW Yeah, I think you're right. Hopefully something this significant has been given some due consideration.
I mean a lot of the fun of older seasons was not knowing how something worked. But that usually affects the future not the past as much directly. Bi-generation could be its own thing, but saying "ohh it also happened every other time" is cheap because we never saw it happen.
Yea I hate that so much. Im fine with it affecting events from now on though
I think the Bi-generation thing is good, not from a lore perspective, because it allows the expectations of the old Doctor to stay with the old one and allows the new Doctor to start having adventures that are his own way.
I agree.
In old Who we meet a Time Lord who is able to manifest his next regeneration as a companion. When the old Time Lord regenerates the young one fades away as the old one regenerates into him. He tells the Doctor he could do this too if he was only a little more disciplined. I forget what wider story it was within but, in my head-cannon, this is what happened.
That is really cool. So its not completely unheard of. Im trying to watch more classic who so that is definitely one im looking forward to
@@TheLaneDW Old Who played with so many wild ideas. I think that is because the base idea lends itself so well to trying stuff out which is any writer's dream gig (or mine anyway).
Remember when Tom Baker changed, there was "The Watcher?" And it turned out to be the next Doctor. Maybe they are trying to allude back to that. Maybe Tennant will regenerate in the next big anniversary into that black woman and she will then merge with Chuti to be the 16th Doctor.
I have heard about the watcher and those sort of things could be connected.
I’ve seen the theory that wraps around the quote of “we do therapy out of order” so that 14 takes the time to settle down and have that quiet moment and then after he’s completely settled and free of burden then when he regenerates he goes back to that moment of bi-generation. But I’ve also seen the theory that 14 can regenerate independently and it explains the “curator” in past episodes.
Im definitely on the side of the curator, it just makes more sense for me.
If it means that we could see Christopher Eccleston's 9th Doctor again I don't care how it works, he was fantastic, absolutely fantastic.
Unless we have a new show runner, it just wont happen. But I would love having him return
And you know what? So was he
…Wait
Not me thinking this was about bisexual generations or something
So many people thought that im sure 😂
As a one time thing it’s fine but let’s hope this is the only time we see it
Yea, I don’t want it to happen again but I want it brought up again for explanation. Seems like it might go that way based on the mention of it in The Devils Chord
Lol I thought this was like a societal commentary video until the second time you mentioned "the doctor"
Thats an easy mistake 😂. The creators of the show didnt choose the right word.
@@TheLaneDW Haha! It's a good way to get people who have never watched it to see an in depth video about the show though!
Going forward can you make it clear that this is a Doctor Who video? Not sure how this ended up in my recommendations since I don't watch Doctor Who. Thought this video had something to do with age generations (millennial, Gen Z, etc.)
Interesting video though.
I wonder how that happened. I have done everything behind the scenes to make it clear its Doctor Who, it just isnt mentioned in the title. Strange. Cool you liked it though 👍.
Its Asexual reproduction, One is the Original Doctor and the new one is the New Doctor...hmm, means that someone has to stop being the Doctor and change their name.
So can a bi generated doctor bi generate? will there just be infinite doctors then?
I hope not 😂. That will get very convoluted but I cant put it past the shows creators.
@@TheLaneDW the only light I see with this is twofold. We might get to see eccleston again and they won't use bad de-aging stuff to make them look like their old selves
i really thought this vid might be about a real world generation of humans which is more bisexual than others
It does sound like that doesnt it 😂. I did not even think about that when making the video but its easily mistaken.
I do think the idea that bi-generation is a myth is a little interesting. As bonkers for canon as the Timeless Child plot was, the Doctor is the origin of all regeneration. Therefore if there was bi-generation prior to this, it would most likely have been from the Doctor, and not from any other Time Lord, or at least from the Doctor BEFORE any other Time Lord. What if the Master is a bi-generation of the Doctor from way back before the Doctor's memory was wiped, who split and eventually became an entirely different person? Or perhaps that's who "the One who Waits" is going to be? Maybe 14, the one who stayed behind, becomes the One who Waits when Donna's family passes away, leaving the Doctor all alone?
I like all of those ideas. I really hope at least one of those is true.
@@TheLaneDW I hope so too, tbh I’m especially proud of the “One who Waits being the left-behind 14th Doctor” idea. It’s kiiiiind of territory they already explored with Ashildr/Me, but it could still be interesting to explore. Plus it would give a little more purpose to the bringing back of David Tennant for these specials cause, while it made some really good stories… I do think all three of the stories could have been done without him and revisiting Donna’s family, all three villains and episodes could have been done similarly with just Ncuti Gatwa and a new companion. The choice to do those three episodes with Tennant gives some implication that they’ll do more with the left-behind 14 somewhere.
100%, I see how it could feel like the Ashielder/Me plot but I feel it would be different enough having the Doctor be the being change through time. I think it would give more purpose to why tenant returned too, having one the most publically iconic incarnations returning only to play a villain would be awesome
@@TheLaneDW Exactly! And Tennant’s got phenomenal experience as a villain. His adaptation of Killgrave in Jessica Jones is just… too good.
@ODISeth he is great in that. I would love to see this sort of thing happen. Not sure if they will do it as RTD probably doesnt want him to be a villain but it would so cool.
It does not work because it's a retcon, the show clearly has no meaning anymore ever since timeless children so who cares? They can do anything they want and people will still watch.
Its to keep the show fresh. Its not unheard of for them to do this. The revival was a huge shake up for the show and character, and it worked back then.
So we are just gonna let them do whatever they want huh
Kind of have to. It can work though
@@TheLaneDW that just sounds like you like what theyre doing, i just stopped watching when they stopped trying to make sense
@@tunderstorm2769 I dont like every idea fully but they interest me enough with their inception, will just have to see what it turns into
