The 80s was indeed a decade for great music. This decade saw Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Chicco, Splash, Condry Ziqubu, CJB, Mercy Phakela, Ali Katt, Lazarus Kgagudi, Om Alec Khaoli, Kamazu, Paul Ndlovu, Pat Shange, Vusi Shange, William Mthethwa, Dan Nkosi and etc rise to prominence. We used to call this music genre Bubble gum music, but little did we know that more than three decades later this music will bring back so many memories. This was the time when local was really lekker.
I was born in 1988 but I can hear the 1980s music was good and real then came kwaito in 1989.Spikiri, Mdu and Lindelani Mkhize worked together to form a new sound to welcome a New SA nothing was wrong with that but the only problem was being too lenient. Most people criticize dance music like kwaito to be too easy and needs no talent. They were supposed to be strict that even if you come with a new sound you must chant and rhyme the kwaito way but sing at least the chorus and must be able to play 1 instrument to be allowed into the music industry if you cannot you are disqualified.People who started the new sound Spikiri and Mdu can sing and play instruments because they were Chicco's backing vocalists.Trompies played trumpets for Chicco hence the name Trompies.
I was very small but still remember this song, was staying with my grandparents in Upington there was this neighbor OOM DAN this was on of his Saturday jams speakers on the front stoep 😆😆😆love those days ❤❤❤
2023, I'm still listening to Alli Katt, thanks G I saved all my good old music. Harari,.Umoja, Pure Magic, Brenda Fassi, Steve Kekana, etc, etc, Chico, i need some money. Oh lord please bring back them days. The Rockets, Neville Nash, Richard John Smith, Ronnie Joyce, Jonathan Butler, Little Collin and the Prumes, Mercy Pakela, i can go on and on. I love you, SA. Condry, Push ikorokoro, ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤,
There was this Dj at a nightclub called Mingles in Cairo, Coloured settlement in Bloemfontein, that remixed this song with "I will hold on" by Mercy Pakela. It really got me going crazy. That was in June 1987. Thirty two years later it's nakes good memory
I still believe the 80's were great as far as music is concerned, cos in the 90's our musicians dropped a ball a bit, ngithanda ukubonga abantu abafana noBra Ali Matt for that, ngiyabong' umculo
I always wonder what it would have been like to have Teddy Pendergrass perform alongside Ali Katt live on stage, with their similar voices...it would have been magical! They are now both gone..shame on death! But we are forever grateful that they gave us such beautiful music.
In Maseru,,we had a discotheque,Studio 1. The DJ Thomas, used to play this song just at the beginning of his performance. Back in 1985. I missed those days
Rest in peace,Ntate. You still have us bumping to this in 2018! Thank you. Loved all your other songs too. 'Thank you,Jesus' ft. Mercy Pakela still speaks to my soul.
11 years Ago, as MYB music group we had the privilege to meet with Ali Kat and we asked to sample Let the good times roll and he agreed. We did remix the song and sent it to Ali Kat for approval, He came to the studio and wanted to add his voice but our producer offended Ali Kat and said he will ruin the song. bra Ali and his manager left and never had any conversation with us, so the song never came out
Apertheid machinery could not dampen our spirits, hope and music kept us alive until now.
If you were born in 2004 and you listen to this, you were raised in a good home.
Does it include those born in '02 because I still listen to this jam after hearing it on the radio many years ago
@@Siyamthanda_un as long as you witnessed good music. 💯

Wish I could turn back the hands of the time
What exactly happened to this genre? Did it evolve to afro pop? I heard it was also known as local pop.
💃💃💃💃💃💃❤❤
Actually it was called Disco music, white people named it bubble gum because they didn't understand it, this was our typical disco music
