It's fun to think that the Past songs for Sonic CD are almost a glimpse into an alternative reality where the Genesis had a sample based audio Chip instead of FM. Neat stuff, i've always loved these songs ^^
Yeah the Sega CD had a few options for music. You could use redbook cd audio, which are basically mp3s (rest of the soundtrack uses this). Since those are basically audio files and the Sega cd is really just a cd player, this explains why those tracks don’t properly loop and instead fade out and repeat. Next is the PCM (what you’re listening to). Behaves very similar to SNES actually since everything is sample based (minus the reverb and is much higher quality). Then there’s the internal Genesis audio. Which is mixed with either PCM or redbook for sound effects. Nobody asked for this info, but here you go regardless!

So it’s sounds/music from the actual cd? Killer!
Well it's produced from the Sega CD's Ricoh soundchip instead of being streamed audio.
@@Turbulation1 huh interesting
