The Seleucids in both scenarios: ''I see this as an absolute win''
*They are literally that in their history, like, lost the greatest hellenic battle ever? 80k soldiers each side? but you see, even if the king lost he did won in one flank of the battle so total win*
Second favourite Orange and Black PH just uploaded 😃

What if Cato didn't foul up the peace talks between Caesar and Pompey?
Right before the great civil way between the two former allies, there was a negotiation to try and deescalate the situation, that nearly resulted in a treaty that both sides could agree on.
Unfortunately Cato HATED Caesar, and shot down the proposal that everyone else wanted to go through with.
(Cato also had political reasons, and genuine concerns with the agreement. But primarily, he seemed to have made it his life's mission to get in Caesars way)
But what if Cato wasn't included in the negotiations? what if the two sides came to an agreement and Caesar never crossed the Rubicon?
Good what if!
Another way to prevent the war is to have Caesar's daughter, Pompey's wife, Julia, not die in childbirth, and therefore cement the alliance between the two.
How about this: What if Rome won the First Punic War early? If Regulus beat Carthage in 255 BC, the war could have ended 14 years early, and Carthage might not have become arch rival of Rome, but just another honorable foe bested by the legions.
Imagine if Carthage just became a wealthy client state of the Republic. The relationship could have been symbiotic: Rome could provide security while Carthage could focus on what it did best: make gobs of money.
Punic language would survive Arab invasions in that case, because all the other Carthaginian cities survived as semi-client states well into 300s, such as Hadrumetu, Malta, Gadiz etc. Also Carthaginian library surviving, we would have Phoenician speaking North Africa, many Newtons and Einsteins coming out from Tunisia, much more advanced in science and earlier exploration of America and Africa, Christianity spreading far slower. (It was Tunisia that spread Christianity to Italy in our timeline)
So, only one Punic War that Rome would turn Carthage into a puppet state?
@@SteveInLavaYup. The stress on the Roman Republic from the Second Punic War, that so destabilized Rome that it led to many of the crises that ensued, would be avoided. The devastation of Carthage also avoided.
Carthagenian patriots have fact checked this
Carthage > Rome imo
@@ERS127ah yes, some random uneffective empire is “>” than an empire that conquered half of Europe, so much of Africa and Asia and because of them, we have people in France, Iberia, Italy, Romania, Moldova and America from Texas to Drake’s strait, speaking descendence from Latin…
@@barsukascool cope
I meant it as, „I prefer Carthage“, imo stands for In my opinion BTW
You mean tunisians? Or Lebanese? Carthage doesn't really exist anymore
Normally i find your scenarios great, but today i have to say, to assume that carthage wouldn't settle rome with massive war reparations considering their, yet to be properly paid, mercenaries, it's not adequatly thought through. Carthages leadership was corrupt and arrogant one could say, but dumb they were not. Something as basic as paying their debts would have definitely been calculated into the war reps.
Or what? Both sides are tired and bankrupt. If Rome just wouldn't have paid, what would Carthage do about it?
If Carthage won the third Punic war
Would be funny.
April fools 2025
That would be like if France somehow won the war of the first coalition, simply impossible
@@SamFromItalia They won the First, I think you mean the 6/7th

What if the Hohenzollern and Habsburg families united (it’d probably have to be a male Hohenzollern and Maria Theresa)? I think it’d be interesting if it happened pre Napoleon. If he had to face a much more centralized German state, France might lose Alsace, and possibly even Lorraine
You mean a male Hohenzollern, right? ... Right?!
@@AchatTheAlpaca yes haha, thank you

Maybe if Maria Theresa and Frederick the Great were married and had a child. I know Frederick seemed to have No Intimate interests in Women but if they did have a Child. They'd form a Mighty German Realm together. I know they are 5 years apart in age so that's an issue
What if Norway Won the FIRST Punic War?
(Please do a what if everything went perfect for Norway scenario)
The first Punic War would be a 1v1v1. Nordic Vikings vs Roman Republic vs Carthaginian Empire
what about what if everything went wrong for norway instead? (they dont breakaway from sweden or denmark)
I would love to see this, love norway from Romania 🇷🇴🤝🇳🇴
Why would Carthage go in revolt? Its obvious Carthage would go and demand Rome reparations, Including paying off the Mercenaries, That makes no sense.
Yeah i don't think Carthage would be dumb enough to not take heavy reparations from rome, even if it wasn't intended to weaken rome, they would still need it to satisfy the mercenaries
Yeah but the mercenaries had to be paid immediately, while Rome could come up with any excuse not to pay up.
Heck during the negotiations the Romans could just say no, wait for the mercenaries to revolt or even instigate them and then just go to the Carthaginians and say:” hey men, we aren’t going to pay you Y, but hey I heard your soldiers are demanding payment, so look we will pay a portion of it so they will calm down and then you figure it out later. Or we could join them.”
Honestly this scenario wasn’t even a win for Carthage, it was more of a truce or draw.
@@gianniwu6564 That was because Carthage was on the backfoot.
A Carthage that has been fighting Rome for longer, Would overflow the Romans with Carthaginian Debt and Reparations like how Rome did on Carthage.
The Mercs would not revolt if given a chance not to Kill their employers, Unless there is money invold
Why would Carthage not demand reparations, Thats the dumbest and non polictaly savy move I would hear. They had Armies to pay, They had a Fleet to rebuild.
@@awestruckcardboard3431 Carthage could have demanded anything they wanted, but it was up to the Romans to hold their end of the bargain. If mercenaries revolted soon after end of the war, Rome would have no reason to help their enemy, maybe they wouldn’t have exploited the situation and stole Sardigna and Corsica from Carthage.
If somehow the Carthaginian senate managed to quell their mercenaries with the promise of payment from Rome, Rome would have withheld payment as long as possible just to spite them.
In fact the most incredulous part of this video was that Carthage didn’t go for the silver mines in Spain. I believe they would have conquered Spain to pay their short term debts and then after stabilizing the situation demand more money from the Romans.
In fact I believe that just like in our timeline Carthage would have struck first by accusing Rome of not honoring their treaties.
@@gianniwu6564 I do not believe Rome would be in a Position, In where itself is Requesting peace, Carthage would not take the initiative.
If Rome refused, Back to war they go.
Carthages expedition to Spain was mainly due to Hamlicar Barca being angry at the lost of the Punic War. So perhaps its possible, Not much would support a expensive expedition if not needed, They can get the money from lets say... Rome!
Love your content man! Keep them coming ❤❤❤❤
Another potential difference here is that Rome wouldn't learn the same lessons, or even as much in total, as they did when Hannibal invaded.
Who knows how big an impact that could have had?
Heck yeah! New PH vid!
So Carthage had money problems (how to pay the mercenaries?) in both timelines, but somehow only in our one they got the idea to grab the silver mines in Iberia?
I guess we could have them say "let's grab Iberia" anyways, which might have led to them actually getting a more significant victory in the second war.
cartage was going to collaps eventualy, rome can simply outlive them maybe a tribe from africa or some other major power but thir fall was irrepressible.
I like to think that Carthage won the first Punic war Rome would be humbled (but not embittered or destroyed like they would've been in the second Punic war. Rome accepts that they're just one of many powers in a multi-polar Mediterranean, similar to early-modern Europe. Carthage, Rome, Egypt, Macedonia and eventually Gallic states would be forced to compete with each other, causing innovation. Carthage would discover the new world, eventually north Europeans would form their own state, new religions would appear or old ones would reform and eventually industrialisation would occur, hundreds of years earlier.
The Roman’s were never gonna accept that they were one of the great powers. They wanted to be The Great Power
Rome? Being reasonable and diplomatic? That's possible?

Great Video! Do a What if about a successful Operation Valkyrie next!
Nothing better than possible history after a long day at work
In my opinion, Hamilcar will still go to Iberia after the First Punic War as he saw the danger that these upstarts from Roma present to Carthage. And if the peace treaty contains only small war reparations from Rome, he will know that Rome will not be very weakened by it.
What if charlimaigne married the queen of east rome
WIll there be the video about exploring the aftermaths of both scenarios later on?

I've always wondered what would happen if Crassus had been extremely successful in Parthia. If he had conquered them and successfully annexed their territory for Rome how would history have changed. Not only was Crassus one of Caesar's biggest supporters but he also was a direct rival for Pompey. Pretty much the only reason Pompey wasn't a full-on optimate at this point was because Crassus was their guy. With him still in the picture the great civil war looks a lot different. Most likely with Pompey and Caesar working together against a much more popular Crassus. Let me know what yall think.
What if everything went perfect for denmark

Can you do a video about the name Africa ?
Alt History idea: the spanish right doesn't win the Spanish Civil War. I see two plaussible scenarios
A) The war simply drags on (maybe the army doesn't get as much support from monarchists and bourgeoisie as it did) and it merges with WWII
B) The anarchists, socialists and communists manage to cooperate and they secure a direct french intervention, or at least enough help from France, the USSR and the UK as to deal with the nazi and italian volunteers and win the war
A is a lot more realistic than B in my opinion, but both could be interesting to explore
This also probably leads to a Nazi invasion of Iberia simultaneous with the invasion of the Urss as the Spanish reppublic becomes a puppet state of the Soviets
By chance, can we get your maps?

Was a scramble for the Americas possible after the collapse of Spain's empire?
The Monroe Doctrine when issued was obviously on its face unenforceable, but with every year that passed the U.S. grows in power until it demonstrates it very much can enforce it with the Spanish-American war of 1898. Was there ever any timeline where the America's got re-colonized? Such as a successful French takeover of Mexico in the 1860s followed by more European efforts in Latin America?
