Never made the what I now know would have been a regrettable decision to take this one home from the rental shop, but as always, your channel's considerable library of programming (because my old man energy prevents me from the using the term content) has been bolstered by another quality episode.
YAAAAASSS! I've been hoping you'd do Pet Shop of Horrors someday. Total forgotten gem that really deserved to be more popular and get more releases, especially given how long the source ran for.
Out of curiosity, I went to see if any of the Dark Cat manga was translated to see if it was any better than the anime, and to my surprise the first couple of chapters are scan-translated in English, and it’s actually not half bad. Naomi Kimora is a lowkey good artist, especially with her psychedelic coloring.
Every time you do a video on an anime that was already covered by BennettTheSage, my fiancée couldn’t help but shout “Better than BennettTheShit’s review!!!!”.
Early Bennett is such a weird relic of the era now. The guy himself has matured a lot and moved on to doing more interesting things years ago at this point, yet the fact that he was one of the first people talking about older anime on UA-cam and did so in such a cavalier fashion sort of haunts this space. To that end, I'm thankful that we have folks like KB revisiting some of these titles and giving them proper context and filling in the technical details, even if the fundamental consensus that some of these shows absolutely honk remains the same.
Only good thing about Bennetttheshit is he allows one to find old school anime that looks interesting, but his reviews stink and sometimes its just shallow & miserable
Usually I would say that since Bennet is absolutely awful. But I can't say that anymore, after KaiserBeamz's dogshit Street Fighter Animated Movie review. Now he's fallen right into the exact same TYPE of awful as Bennet.
@the-NightStar Hey, we got the best alternative to BennettTheSage, and now you’re viewing KaiserBeamz as another BennettTheSage?! If KaiserBeamz does a Kyoto Video on The End of Evangelion in the future, don’t you dare come seething in the comments just because you hate the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise!
When I first found this anime, I wondered if it was a hentai with all of the sex scenes cut out for UA-cam or something. Learning about the studio that made it explains a lot.
1:33 hey! It's the 🎶GREEN SLI-i-i-ime GREEN SLI-i-i-ime bwaaa 🎶 What anime is that from? Okay, so movies to look up: *Call Me Tonight* *Curse of Kazuo Umezu* (is that the one where the girl with the nightmares is the spider demon?) *Bride of Deimos* *Battle Can Can* *Maryuu Senki* *Dream Hunter Rem* *Dark Cat* is hilarious. There is enough story to have something to follow, and at least it's done in a way that is fairly easy to follow. The english dubbing is just a bonus (especially the girl). This is unintentionally right up there with *Ghost Stories (2001)* for most hilarious english dubbing. 3:08 that's about how I felt after watching *The Last Jedi.* 10:45 _NO._ If there was any example of an anime with no effort, check out *Nora Rock Me.* Kenny Lauderdale did a wonderful video on the OVA.
I will say this, I feel really bad for those Japanese Seiyuus who were involved in this atrocity of an OVA. They were much better in other roles that I mostly prefer.
Petshop of Horrors?! Gonna be an interesting sale on that one. Admittedly hadn't seen it in years but it didn't really stick with me. Anyhoo, nice little use of Love Cats there at the end~
Well goddamn, the Japanese animation industry REALLY doesn't like shojo stuff! I feel bad for any woman or girl who were fans of the manga and were looking forward to this OVA.
My god, this scene at 2:52 is just. God I don’t know exactly what it is that bugs me about it so much, maybe it’s the animation, maybe it’s the camera work and all the weird ass cuts, maybe it’s the stilled kinda empty feeling English voice acting, I don’t know, but something about it is just…So bad, in so many ways, and couldn’t hope to possibly describe them all. So sorry you had to watch this man, it seems absolutely awful in a way that it wasn’t even intended to be.
I remember there used to be a version of the dub uploaded on UA-cam by the main male love interest VA. He seemed pretty blase about the dub itself, hope he's doing well
The whole dub feels like some random joe's first attempt at shambling together a fandub for something. Voice acting, sound mixing, and script. The only thing it's missing is having half the voice actors sound like they're recording through 15 year old webcams that're on the verge of cutting out at any given moment.
1:32 : Wait, what did this come from? Because, to me, they look like the cheesy critters from the old 70s Sci-Fi Monster Movie called "The Green Slime' (yes, I'm old enough to remember it from back then, although I hadn't even hit my first decade yet 😅): ua-cam.com/video/mVvm8YMz6z0/v-deo.htmlsi=Dl_xGYzpm1YqONb0 Huh, checking Wikipedia I see it was a Japanese production to begin with, so I guess I'll hunt down this anime....although it seems a bit on the 'racey' side 😊
@@Launchpad05 Well on many of Kaizers videos for instance since they like to cover older/retro anime, I have watched alot of them but since its been so long I dont remember the names. Unlike more recent anime sometimes doing a reverse image search comes up with either nothing or vaguely similar anime characters. There are many other people who add the names of the random clips they throw in or use for examples so whenever I see videos that dont, especially well made videos it just irks me.
Honestly, I think T-bone Wang’s name is pronounced exactly like the slang term it’s for. I only see him credited on either hentai or crap like this, so I’m pretty sure it’s a pseudonym that the person behind it just wanted to have fun with.
Wait! Toshiki Inoue was involved in this? Next thing you tell me is that Riku Sanjo(of Kamen Rider W, Kyoryuger, and Digimon Fusion fame) was involved with MD Geist.
the dub is the single greatest piece of video I have ever seen in my entire 27 years on this planet. I saw it when I was like 12 and have laughed about it to myself at least weekly every since. it was a staple 'dude you have to watch this' video in my house when people came over as a teenager. it's so poorly done on every level. the anime itself was already terrible, and the dub enhances it to an almost magical piece of gonzo art. from the fact they forgot to include the sound effects, to brilliant intelligent dialogue like 'hey f-slur, we just beat the shit out of you' to the magnificent performance of our lead male student who sounds like the kid in your middle school class who couldn't really read the teacher would call to read whatever book in english class to be a dick. it's something special.
it's even funnier to think about in the context of how niche anime was in the west in the 1990s. you think of heavy hitter films like akira, ninja scroll, ghost in the shell. presumably most video stores probably are only carrying these, plus a few random OVAs like this. some guy you know is telling you about how cool japanimation is. it's cartoons, but for ADULTS. now you take your happy ass up to the store on your night off, and of course they're sold out of those ones your friend told you about. so you rent this. you'd go home and watch this garbage and decide, yeah it's not for me. cartoons for adults, huh? adults in japan must be mentally ill. talking cat people, horny teachers with diseased cocks for tongues, 0 explanation that is actually clear about what is happening and why, dropped plot threads, stunted still animation. you'd think that friend of yours was a crazy person.
What gets me is that Dark Cat is technically a shojo series. What do girls like? Lets replace the snakes from the manga version with pus filled dick worms! Like, are you really gonna argue that boys would rather have pus filled dickworms over snakes? You mentioned how they aren't exploitative about the worms but honestly, I almost prefer they had been because at least they would be aiming at a market instead of this. Imagine you were a fan of the original anthology series and the only thing the gen pop remember is this crap.
Horror movies often explore more mature themes than other media. Junji Ito was a dentist assistant? That was an unexpected bit of information about a legendary horror mangaka. The more you know, I guess.
Be a dentist, you have a talent for causing things pain!

in japan jack skellington is called "annual spooks man" and he lives on the moon
I dunno, this is exactly the sort of dub I'd expect from somebody who calls themselves "T Bone".

I haven't seen Swat Kats in over 2 decades and I still know exactly what scene that is 😂
The voice acting sounds like it’s a gag dub that forgot to be funny.
Like when 'Teen Titans Go' did A gag dub of the original show to spite the fans.

Did his channel get terminated? Or is it still around?
Wow, the sound editing is real bad in that anime... The unmotivated voice acting, music too loud... That is the true horror.
Please do a video on Crying Freeman
First shot after the OP is footage from Nightmare Before Christmas. So far, so good.
As a long time fan of "Pet Shop of Horrors" I am ecstatic to see that one covered
Okay?.
The voice acting sounds like some 14 year old that went on CastingCallClub to get VAs for his fandub, and casted the first people that auditioned

They can make a good dub when they aren't dealing with immensely low-rent shit like this and Genma Wars.
