Honestly the fact that it's running pretty smoothly on a 15 year old computer is pretty amazing. I'm sure a RAM and SSD upgrade would work wonders on this iMac.
@@josvah Me too honestly. My mom’s M1 MacBook Air with Sonoma performs quite a bit faster than my mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13”. But both do the exact same things, so why upgrade 😂
I see you didn't read the instructions because it's almost not appropriate. However, you got this, and I noticed that installing Yosemite and then High Sierra from Mavericks takes more time. Instead, you should make a macOS High Sierra install bootable so that you can install it directly from Mavericks. That would be faster and save you a lot of time. I've been a Mac user since 2012 and have extensive experience with all the Macs I've used. Great work, and keep it up!
opencore: "hey um keyboard and mouse might not work on this mac for the install.." jiga: "ok install it anyway" keyboard and mouse doesnt work jiga: "whats wrong with it??? how do i fix this????"
it said "hey um internal keyboard and mouse might not work on this mac for the install" and he used an external keyboard since he was on an IMac the fact it was from 2009 probably was the reason, it couldve still used an intel CPU and therefore sonoma might not work as intended, because of the change in CPU architechture
@@NicVandEmZyou probably replied here by accident but it wasn’t waiting for a Bluetooth mouse it was waiting for a mouse I had the same issue when installing
Without a doubt, macOS Mojave is the best option for this kind of Mac. Older Macs without Metal support have issues with the latest versions, which makes even simple apps extremely sluggish. You can play older games that are no longer supported by later macOS versions thanks to Mojave's support for 32-bit applications.
30:17 yes i could hear all of that and i sang along, nice to find a fellow good kid fan (actually writing this wearing a good kid tshirt and levi jeans
I recently got a 2012 mac mini server from ebay (top of the line version with the i7) for $118 and the seller that I got it off of upgraded the ram to 16GB and installed a 256GB SSD and the 1TB HDD. I surprisingly got Legacy Patcher to work on my first try from watching YT videos on it and its pretty smooth.
Patching an installer and forcing the latest macOS version to work on it with also providing patches to fix issues. The reason it was super laggy when he first installed was because it didn’t have any hardware acceleration and opencore had to install the driver to make it work. Imo if you’re gonna do this you should also upgrade your old mac’s ram and change the hard drive to and ssd. That will make a world of a difference. Cpu and gpu can be upgraded in older imac’s too if you’re up for that challenge.
i did the same thing on my macbook with mac os big sur a few years back and had the exact same thing with needing to update this shit for like 12 different versions for it finally to work 😂

would you recommend doing open legacy core patcher on a MacBook pro mid 2012, i plan on upgrading my ram from 4gb to 12gb.. but i cannot replace hard drive with a SSD as its too expensive and out of budget
The irony of this video is that you actually can play games because this machine is compatible with 32 bit, but you have to stop at Mojave which is the last OS with 32 bit Support. And you need at least a 2012 machine with a metal compatible graphics card in order to really get away with the newer versions. Even with an integrated gpu, as long as it’s Metal compatible you can even get a 2012 MacBook Pro running smoothly on Ventura at least.
I have the exact same model but with a different configuration, mine has 12GB RAM, the Nvidia GeForce 9400M with 512 MB of VRAM. I had installed Linux on it, and then the display data cable port on the mobo stopped working. I do intend on fixing the machine, though, and upgrading it to an SSD.
Does installing the "post-install root patch" actually make it less laggy? Beacuse i have an early 2014 macbook air and when i installed sonoma it was unusable of how laggy it was, but i didn't install the post install root patch.
actually most new apps wont work because the gpu doesnt have metal graphics, it only has opengl graphics, so most new things will crash or not work unless0 u download an old version
