this is a good example of the well made and proper installed wooden dummy ! this is a third wooden dummy I see worldwide online that is well built. thank you for sharing
Dummy measurements are surprisingly style dependent. Our style uses a higher arm position. The different preference shows up in interesting ways when touching hands with WC practioners.
@rumsbums3113 Given the option between too low or too high, too high is more useful as you rarely deal with agressors who are noticably shorter. I see among dummy users with too low arms a tendency to train the bong sau lower as the arm is lower, which opens the head more. Dummies are very good at building muscle memory, so bad habits there become bad habits in sparring/fighting. But too far either way is not going to be good.
i think the preference is a kind of 'neutral' height for wc, as that's fully defensive for middle and lower and high (middle can raise, or lower, to match the different attacks, but if you're always high then the lower targets open up and hard to defend and vice versa. It's evident as chain punching should be neutral and raise up to hit a head target, not start high and just stay high to go in. Much better to punch his jaw than his forehead (break your fingers). @@ehisey
Teacher is talking. 😎🤟💡💯1:23 feeling. Sensitivity. Not a dead dummy. 💯😛👍2:12 because metal is heavy. My guess. 3:56 what would GUA CHOY be Sifu Lam or whoever answers. Cheung he says is wood. Now I know that. But how about the BACK FIST? 4:44 right. Don’t chase hands. Or hit the dummy. Chopping arms. Face and focus on the target. 😉👍💡💯7:09 that was absolutely awesome. Seriously. 😎💯
ah yes, because shaolin punches dont come back, theyre metal, but wing chun punches rebound in a nice reloading way. A dummy that is metal and that doesnt rebound is good too, has a different chi gong value.
Just fallen on this by pure algo randomness, not sure why, and I can tell you that guy wouldn't say alive more than 30 seconds facing a second class boxer.
Thank you Sifu Gary - really useful information. Though me being a small girl, most of the dummy are set to bigger people,.so not sure how to get around that? Look forward to meeting you in Warrington soon 🤜🫷
Thank you for your kind words. Regarding the wooden dummy, you can practice the wooden dummy form without using the dummy. Just remember to fully extend your punches and kicks, which you can't do when you're working on the dummy. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the seminar.
I love what you have done to this channel! These videos are amazing!
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.

Low is better ....
That's an interesting fact.

I'm not sure how anyone can develop a good BONG sau with a higher armed level dummy
Amazing lessons

There is no Qi Gong Value to hitting metal
It's better than training with nothing.

I've seen him deal with boxers. It didn't go well for the boxers.
