    This video really is like the "Missing Manual". The instructions the case ships with don't deal fitting the silicon heat pads over the PMCI chip- which is significantly smaller than the supplied pad for that purpose. I wasn't sure if I needed to trim it to the size of the PMCI chip, but your demo illustrated this wasn't necessary and II just copied your placement. Given this deals with cooling the Power Management Controller Interface, I wanted to be 100% sure I was doing this step correctly. Thanks Bud!!!

    Thanks! You have a new subscriber in Ireland.
    I could not figure out out the fan wire in the guard rail. Your video made it clear.

    Just ordered mine with the NVME holder. They just came back into stock today. Excited!

    Very cool! I ordered one a few days ago despite not seeing any reviews, because I had such a good experience with my previous Argon NEO. Seeing it in video and your experience with it makes me feel good about my decision to buy it.

    Thank you, I've been waiting for this video for a week for someone to make it. the same kit is coming.

    I have to say that case looks very pretty. The groove for the fan cable 'did it for me' 🤣 The screw fittings on the bottom of the case suggest this could be mounted on the rear of a monitor.

    Some 3 years(??) before I ended using the Argon 2 with the Nvme extension ..With the exception of the need to very soon changing the fan this one is a very good and functioning solution.. Very good in deed ..It is working 24/7 relentlessly.. Now..with the Raspi 5..I think I'll wait for the DOWN (the Pimoroni maybe..)NVME addon card edition..

      You can use geekworm x1003 pcie to m.2 board with this case or or use it's fat variant with ability to install full sized nvme

    Cool, it’s a little wider on one side.

    I really wish you showed how many thermal pads you applied and come in contact with the core. >.

    Where do you put the official RTC battery? I had to wiggle it between the floor plate and the Raspberry Pi...

    This case feels much much more cheaper than it's predecessor. Leave alone the orrendous color scheme and the fact that most distros has currently problems in custimizing the fan curve. At default the fan starts and stops continuously because the fan starts at 50°C that is near the idle temp.

    • @sblantipodi
      @sblantipodi 7 місяців тому +2

      edit: fan curve has been fixed with latest updates and can be customized. all in all this is the best case I tried. It works passive with fans off most of the time. it's not that bad as I tought, it's very very good instead.

    Good video, nice case. If i want to connect a bottom NVME HAT. Is there a gap for the ribbon cable in the case? I see somthing over the SD Card slot but im not sure if a ribon cable will fit.

    I'm more interested in Argon One v3 m.2 unfortunately it's out of stock.

      @iam.jasonhoward I have a Pimoroni SSD base that works perfectly but I have to run my Raspberry Pi5 naked or 3D print the case. I want something more sleek. Argon case is not cheap at $50 😐

  • @harleyn3089
    @harleyn3089 8 місяців тому +1

    Do you think it's possible to use the top of this with a Pimoroni nvme base as a replacement for the bottom? I was thinking this might be a nice silent way to create an NVME Pi.

    • @iam.jasonhoward
      @iam.jasonhoward  8 місяців тому

      You could do that, but I do not recommend it. You risk damaging the flex cable during the installation. I would wait for the new Argon ONE M.2 for Pi 5.

      @@iam.jasonhoward Thanks for the reply. I'll keep an eye out for that. I have the Pi 4 version of the Argon One M.2 actually. That's exactly the machine I want to replace with a Pi 5 version. (It's my web development server.) I was just thinking of this out of pure impatience. ;-)

    Why did they changed the colors... would prefer the same materials and colors like the old neo and one.

    I'd like to buy extra thermal pads for the rest of the components. What should be the thickness?

    • @iam.jasonhoward
      @iam.jasonhoward  7 місяців тому

      I have some thermal pads that are about 1mm thick. It’s a 30 pack for 6 USD.

      @SarpdorukTahmaz 7 місяців тому

      @@iam.jasonhoward I wasn't actually asking for a price :) I just wonder (since you reviewed the rpi5 case) if you know the thickness of the thermals pads that are included in the box.

    It only touch the SoC and PMIC? Not a good design thermal-wise in my book.

    • @peepopalaber
      @peepopalaber 8 місяців тому +1

      Its totally fine, even on high loads and you need to clear the connectors. The SoC and the PMIC cluster are the only thermally really relevant parts on the Pi 5.

    • @edrd6257
      @edrd6257 8 місяців тому +1

      @@peepopalaber I'm afraid you confused this one with the old RP4 version of the case. This RP5 version touching the PMIC (and the SoC). The old model for RP4 was the one that not touching the PMIC and instead touch the RAM (and the SoC, of course). On top of that, WiFi chip and others are also thermally relevant as they produce quite a lot of heat, thought not as nearly as much as the SoC and PMIC. So touching only the SoC and PMIC is just a bare minimum and Argon should not go for the bare minimum.

      @@peepopalaber so the rp1 chip needs no cooling ?

    • @peepopalaber
      @peepopalaber 7 місяців тому

      i corrected myself. the pmci cluster now generates way more heat than on the pi4 with the higher energy consumption, you wifi chips are not thermally relevant in this application. or do you have active coolers on your dongles, your home-routers etc? no. you dont even have passive cooling elements, besides the shielding cage.
      its not the bare minimum, the rest also gets a bit of the fan airflow ... you cant just brick aluminium over the whole board.

    • @peepopalaber
      @peepopalaber 7 місяців тому

      not much, depends how high you clock it. if it runs 24/7 on full power, a passive cooler is enough.@@jyvben1520
