Surviving My Worst Night in Bush | Fireside Chat with Greg Ep. 6

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- Greg takes you on a journey from when he was a young man. Heading out in the bush with his friend Hardcore Warren. As they head out on a bear hunt they run into some trouble.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

thats what i love about greg....he is a real man who makes real mistakes and has no qualms about tellin us about them..good lad
Love these fireside chats. Could listen to Gregs stories for hours on end. Best channel I've ever found on UA-cam.
Me too!
I will just go ahead and say it , if I was having my worst night in the bush alone I would want Greg with me!
I'll take Chuck Norris.
Why would you wish that on him?
Definitely
Of course you’ll “go ahead and say it” because you know everybody else does on all his other videos for likes lol what losers. Just watch the video and move on or be original at least
He does have a purty mouth 😂
I love the fireside chats Greg cheers to you and Finn always enjoy your videos and chats have a great weekend Greg and Finn
"You don't get sleep in these situations."
That's a real man right there.
I find it incredible how important small details can be when it comes to survival. It's the difference between misery and being alright.
I had one bear encounter when I was alone, which I already told you about, but I've had so many rain/downpour camping experiences that all taught me what never to be without in the bush. Lighters (several), large and small tarps (for cover and floor), cordage, bungees and stakes and, yes, a rifle, a knife, some proteins, carbs, coffee in a ziplock, and something to boil water in. My scariest moment was caused by being unprepared in a sustained heavy downpour, and I was terrified as the elements wreaked havoc on body's ability to properly function. This fireside chat hit home and I'm so glad you presented this experience and wisdom. It's so true that experience is the best teacher. Much love to you and Finn.
You said at the beginning you don't like shooting grizzlies. I feel the spirits new that and we're playing with you. They were happy for you to experience the presence in foot prints. Generations of old only took what was needed and they thanked the spirits for what they took.......keep up the wonderful stories and scenery.............,. The kids minds need to be kept open....
Mr. Ovens, a gem ❤ Love your stories. Here all day for it
Me too !
@@letzrockitrite8469 Me too :)
What’s with Fowler‘s editing team? STOP AI Imaging Gregs thumbnails! He’s not 21 cut the BS! Fowler’s editors be scratching for views like a dope fiend!
My gripe is the long weird intro.
Just start the video for Gawd sakes 😂

Woo hoo tonight will he a good night. Going to have some pizza and watch Greg 😊
Next time bring coms for your friend. Could’ve been communicating the whole time. Starter relay…jeez.🐸🍺🔪🔥
Greg when I first found out about you was the early days of you and Zack's 30 day challenge. Great watch by the way, the whole thing was very interesting to me. Those early days I remember you telling Zack how you liked sleeping on the ground in all these home made beds like smooth rocks topped with moss and such, you were not interested in the hammock idea at all...at first. Then I see you on many trips with what looks to be a Superior Gear Hammock. Could you do a video about all that, what you like and dislike about the different sleeping styles? I've done both to a much more limited extent than you and would enjoy hearing your two cents worth on this hammock vs ground sleeping.
Ps. my dog wants to know too because he acts very differently when i hang vs the tent. How about Finn's thoughts too?
Thanks to you and your editing crew, we sure do enjoy your channel!
I'm a fan Greg but these thumbnail AI generated photos of you are super creepy and really not needed IMHO ... kinda foolish whoever is doing it for you.
Hello Mr. Greg I called Mr. Max and I can't seem to get in touch with him but I left a message and I would love to hear back from you guys asap
Where's Greg at? It's been 3 weeks? Think it's time for a live Q&A, it's long over due.
I love watching your videos because it's always a disaster
Greg, I've lost count of how many times that truck has let you down in the bush. Maybe you should do a livestream to raise money for a new one.👍
I was thinking maybe can use coals and kinda dance around the fire to fight off the bear. Kick coals at it you know!? And that might scare it off?? other than that I can't think of anything else
Nothing better than coming home from a difficult day to another gem of a video. They truly get me through the day, I find your stories and wisdom to speak to me as well as all those who take the time to listen. so truly thank you so much, thank you. :)
I’m having toast and coffee listening to your story, realizing this was 9 days ago. I got some catching up to do 😊
You should pull from the bottom because it will kick back and possibly hit you in the balls😊
I would love to hear about strange sounds and experiences from you in the bush
We had a mom brown bear a 2 cubs walk by us in camp to the river and swim across , it was amazing, scary a bit but not after us, much respect for bears
Waiting for you. My favorite youtuber!!👍💙
Yes
The Gull,of moving the camp without telling you.
I would never take the chance walking anywhere a Grizzly might be without a rifle.
You are real not a money grabber like some outdoor guys like woodbeard
Greg can go out in the bush with me cause he knows how to split wood with an axe.
I just LOVE the fireside chats!!! Really looking forward to camping hacks and whatever you got for fyi. Thank you so much!
I love fireside chats❤!!! Hi from Costa Rica!!! Pura vida ❤
Hey Greg the next time you have a breakdown keep flares with you and if you don’t want to cause a fire, use the glow sticks. Your buddy should have put a glow stick with a note on it since you don’t have cell service. You’re lucky you didn’t get mauled. Can’t wait for the next fireside chat. They’re awesome!!!
Just when I thought I had an idea how HARDCORE Greg is, he drops this story. 🤘
Also, your dinner was made in my state! Enjoy the brats!
A whole lot of environmental arsons last year.
Love the fireside chats. Can't wait for the next one. Sounds intriguing! One of the things that I love about this channel that you don't see any where else is that Greg is the first one to admit to not always getting it right. And that's authentic. That's what real people do. Some survival guys come across as never making a wrong decision about anything. Greg's done it the hard way, got the scars to prove it but still takes the time to share his knowledge through his videos and stories. And we love him all the more for it!
Greg your amazing - can't believe a network has not picked you up. You got an a great speaking voice and I just love watching you and Finn' and your adventures 🎉
I'd say YT is a pretty good gig for him since makes decent money with donations/monetization and he gets to have 100% creative control.
Cable t.v is nearly obsolete.
👍
Nice spooky camp fire story Greg 👍👍. Lots ot hug's to you & Finn 😊 from Mission B.C 🇨🇦
Love the story. I looked around your little camp and thought I saw a Bud in the cup holder of the chair? Hope so. Also I DIDN'T SEE ANY RIFLE?? Love the content bro 👍👍👍
No judgement if you drink, but still, why would you "hope" someone else would poison themselves?
We've all done things like not carrying kit that we should have. When things don't go as we want /expect we kick ourselves for not being switched on. These are without doubt the lessons that stay with us .
What wire shook loose with the pothole….we need to know for future reference….thanks.
Starter relay. Watched the rest of the video ….thanks again!
Good lesson, thanks. Now that I learned from your mistake, I won't have to go through something like that. Stay safe.
Was I subscribed, watch video since 50k subs. 30days survival challenge with Zack. Now almost 1M subs.. From Philippines 🇵🇭.
Ever seen A Sasquatch? Love ya Greg!!!🇨🇦
I asked the same thing 😂 there's no way he hasn't..
Thanks for the story Greg, looking forward to your wealth of knowledge and stories. For some folks these are NOT “just forest fires” they are DEW. Intentional …like Paradise, CA, Medical Lake, WA, Lahaina Maui…etc, etc
your not aloud to hunt grizz in bc
Thank you so much for sharing your skills, stories and that fantastic region !!! Hey! Parenthesis: I think those '' Crocus " are Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla vulgaris)?
Salaam mumuo parvez thanks so much love you films think good news nice good friends today thank ❤❤❤❤❤❤😇🥰🇵🇰🌹👍🏼🙏🏻🤔💯😭💏💙✌️💗♥️❣️👉💓😂🌼🤗☺️💪🥀✔️💖👌😘
Brother like all your survival!!
Like to meet you one day! Me I'm native American Navajo.. southern UT.. let's do some fishing!!!
Hopefully you worship Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh Emmanuel is with us, Jehovah King. Hopefully he is everything to you because everything happens because of God and nobody else.✝️, and you are very lucky to get to live like that it is a hard life, but it’s a beautiful place
My worst was waking up in a tent deathly cold. Ive never been colder.
I walked the 4 blocks home ftom my friends backyard and took hot shower.
Never seen someone split wood like that! Haha interesting...much like the casting technique.😅👍
No mosquitoes here in south-east AK..YET...then the horse flies.
❤I'm soo happy you survived! Yup never know what can happen?! Thank you Greg!
Did it(bronco) have an emergency fuel shut off on front passenger side up under glove box? Not sure if they all(earlier models) had this but my ford ranger truck 2004 had one. With a reset button. Man what a pain. Always a lightweight backpack with basics
Worked in that area last summer on a TC Energy pipeline. Up the Morrissey and McAvoy. Rough country, saw lots of blacks and one big grizzly.
I really like the fireside chats! Love your channel!
Thanks Greg keep them coming. Can't wait till your next big overnight adventure God bless
And all that cooking will definitely attract bears... I would be more on the raw side. I hate cooking anyway. I remember one night after cooking pike and walleye on a BBQ. It was just starting to get dark. Was going back to my cabin and surprised a black bear on my balcony trying to get into that BBQ (leftover grease). When he saw me, he ran like hell! It wasn't exactly the encounter I was hoping for.
From the age of 16 to 20, I would trek in the Cascades twice a month. On and off trail, generally five miles off the road up on some mtn pass. Up until I was 18, I never carried a gun (only knives and hatchets.) The first time I carried a rifle in, it was intended for target practice only. Turns out I was attacked by a black bear. I won that tussle handily. But I never ventured out again without a gun.

This makes me so happy bro, i love the show ALONE and i just stubled upon this guy wich i thought AWESOME!!!
MOVIE : *_"Apocalypse Now"_*
*_"You Never Leave The Boat, Man.!!"_*
Him MOVING the camp WITHOUT telling you……I would have been pissed!
Hi, Greg. Why did change your face All the time in the pictures. When you do in a A movie, I like your old face just yourself I like more.Your longer movies then you Short ones. Because in life eyou think must be quick quick.
Go on, keep up the good work.Love your shows with your dog finch
Hello Greg/Finn !! I always enjoy ur fireside chats, I’m just curious as to why ur friend didn’t let u know of his relocating the camp, most of all, knowing u would be there, why on earth would he take all the wood. Sorry, but that wasn’t cool. Thank u
I just want to know where you learned your plants from. Books? Internet? Courses? Other people. I think for me learning from others and seeing them in nature is the way that the knowledge will best stick with me.
Unfortunately I don’t know anybody IRL into bushcraft/survival so I use Siri and the pictures on my phone to learn the best I can.
Hey Greg I grew up in Minnesota,I'm in Dallas now. Mosquitoes are horrible up in MN. What is your go to repellent? I hear cedar dust and oil is great. Thanks bud, keep it up and stay safe!
quit with the editing... lame ... got fowlers 15 minutes of stank on it lmao.. tv would have cancelled you both....
Just stumbled upon your channel. Absolutely fell in love with your content! Thank you for showing us your style of life. You da man, Greg.
What a story. Thank the Lord you lived to tell it. We can certainly learn from other's mistakes. On a side note, your 'friend' was very irresponsible for changing camp and not telling you. That was just stupid and dangerous. A jerk move for sure.
Watched this channel for years…really wanted to know if you have ever seen any cryptids I.e. BIGFOOT???
Greg haven't you heard that smoke follows beauty?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The smoke from the fires in BC was so bad it ruined the whole summer pretty much. Every outing marked by nasty green-grey colored air and stink. I feel like im shaving days off my lifespan being out in that crap in 2023.
Love your chats. That crocus looked like pulsatilla, or maybe the focus just made its stems look hairy. I'm in Ireland, so not 100%. Its been a horribly wet spring here, please take some of our clouds. Free to a good home.
👍
Bear smelt cooking meat😮. You are the Best down to earth, bushcraft out their. Keep up the Awesome Work..stay safe.
Hey, I'm sure I'm not the only old fart that can't get out much anymore so, keep the fire side chats coming. We'll be here.
Who am I kidding...we'll be here for every video you post. Keep on!
Great story, I really like your stuff, there's so much "survival" nonsense out there yours is a breath of fresh air.
I have a system I've been working on, that seems to work for me. Just a cross body pouch anchored to my belt with a small carabiner, with the bear spray on the bottom end of the strap and the InReach at the top end . The bear spray always sits in the same place for me, with or without a pack. When the inside of my wrist is above the navel, my fingers are touching the canister.
The pouch is for what I might want immediately. Wound closures, maybe a bear banger, not much more. The pouch is really small, ideally about the size of a billfold. I don't want a bunch of stuff in it that I'd need to search through when one hand is gushing blood and the other one is shaking. The other thing I discovered is that the pouch needs to zip open from top to bottom. That makes it easy to unzip with one hand.
The point of this is that you can throw it on pretty much every time you leave the vehicle. You have it when your collecting or splitting firewood, it goes under the pack without interference, it's even still on you when you drop your pants. I haven't tried it with heavy off-season clothes though. That might be the Mark II version.
Why are they burning the forest Greg ?? Yr thoughts on this 🤔 ..I dont believe its from some outdoorsy type camper ..but its sad regardless ....😮💨
Dude is this the guy on that ALONE show???!!!! The drywaller that wanted to buy his daughter a house???!!!
Awesome Story...Golly That Scar 😱 Glad you survived.
Have you spilled the beans on any sasquatch encounters yet 😂 if it happened to my girlfriend and I there's no way it hasn't to you! We just started camping and wandering more lately. Love your content stumbled across it years ago.
Hopefully another 30 days survival challenget kind of adventure
Inreach .... I live only 15 km from that camp you are talking about, and have been guiding or managing the hunting territory where your talking about for the last while.... but honestly my inreach is right next to a Bick lighter for things I must have.
I spent 30 days lost in the Idaho mountains started with a hike to visit my parents took the wrong trail I was found 30 days later by a elderly woman on a drive in the forest I ditched all my gear didn't have the strength to keep carrying the stuff
The thumbnails make you look like…. Not you… bring the original ones back 😂 (just giving fowler a hard time kinda)
I would have slept in the truck, NOT HIKE 7 MILES, GOT HIM ON THE PHONE ASAP
Rad! Thanks for sharing man! I always get hungry watching camping videos 😅
Hey brother I enjoyed your story and I can see you're a biblical man Greg☺️ God is with you and may you believe in his son Jesus Christ for salvation, grace and blessings be upon you🙏
I didn't get a notification this time. Sorry I'm a day late but I'm here and watching. Love the show Greg and Finn ❤️🙏🏻
Love the fireside chats - absolutely awesome.
man, aint no way Im walking 10 miles into the bush probably no cell service, without at least 20 lbs of kit, food, water.
Greg you should do a survival trip in the fjordlands New Zealand 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Greg it wouldn't be a fireside chat without the smoke,... Just wouldn't be the same.
Love fireside chats! Capitalize on your many
strengths, Gregg!
