I remember watching this as a kid and my only takeaway was “Brick houses are what you need to survive tornadoes”. Who could have guessed this was an adaptation of Three Little Pigs.
Doesn't mean it's a bad movie, but you're not wrong. (In fact, it makes me appreciate it even more... you try making a 2-hour movie out of a 1-page children's story.)

There was a story of an infant getting sucked into a tornado, and landing unharmed in a field forty yards away.

A good example is the el reno tornado I believe Jude is thinking of Fujiwhara Effect effect which is essentially when two Huricanes merge that could be described as a huricane consuming another one
As a person born in the late 2000's, I am surrounded by people who hate this movie. To be honest, I did watch it on my VCR on loop till the VHS broke. I love this movie. I'm ignoring the fact that I only had this on VHS.
It was the first special effects blockbuster. That will always color the perception of those who had only seen practical effects interspersed with a TINY bit of CGI here and there before.
This movie was the first movie to be on DVD, won a Academy Awards, and had the best actors! Not to mention that it had a ride at Universal Studios and it has a Museum where the movie was filmed!
As a person who was alive to actually see this movie in theaters. This was some of the best cinematography of the time. And for the average person that didn't live in tornado alley, this was the first time we had ever seen a tornado outside of wizard of oz.

The reason this happens is because a storm doesn't just create 1 rotation, it creates many, and the ones that merge create the main tornado. This is known because of a simulation of a supercell, a tornado producing storm, and its notn100 percent provenk but its pretty accurate. You can see many storm chasers refer to these in videos. as someone who has survived 3 tornadoes in the past 15 years, i can confirm they sound like monsters. like a thousand freight trains barreling towards you. Its a sound you will never forget. It is the sound of death.

I saw the title and my mind instantly went to the *game* Twister instead of the movie, so I thought it was going to be a video about the MS trio struggling to play a virtual round of Twister and failing miserably. 🤭😆
