This needs a love button. I grew up on Howard and Vestal Goodman along with The Gaithers. I absolutely love Vestal Goodman's voice. True woman of God. She had an amazing voice and she loved singing for God
I don’t know how many of you have ever read Howard’s book but he tells how softly Vestel sang when they first married. Then they went to a big meeting to sing and there were no mikes. He said when Vestel got up to sing it was not Vestels voice coming out. God still does miracles.
Vestal Goodman is one of the greatest vioces ever PERIOD. She is overlooked because of her singing Christian music and that's really sad. I remember my Mom and Dad taking us to see them in concert when I was a Little and I still remember the chills I got hearing her live. God blessed us well with her gift
I too am surprised by the low number of views. I accidentally came upon this family and now I'm hooked. I have to listen to it every day and when I'm not actually listening to UA-cam I'm hearing it in my head and humming along!
Thanks for posting this. I was trying to explain this video to my favorite Aunt, but now I’ve been able to show her. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Hallelujah!!!
Aside from being a popular drag number, this song was a SENSATION in the gay country bars during the 1990's. As a DJ at that time, I would have more requests for this song than any of the current hits and it was guaranteed to pack the dance floor to capacity every time. There was a rumor going around that the song was intentionally pulled from circulation at that time due to it's popularity in the gay community, although I cannot confirm whether this is true or not...
Yeah I would have loved to see that! Johnny cook was amazing but I believe Brian free could have came out as the Victor. But I guess we will never know.
@@timothyicenhour3119 Johnny Cook seemed to alway's be able to go up just one more :) Think his highest "Looking For A City" rendition is on his "Unforgetable" Album. (1977) It's on UA-cam..... His voice type is male Mezzo-soprano which is wayyy higher than a tenor...... Probably the main reason he could sing so high & in full voice on all his songs...... I too would have liked to have seen them together singing this great old classic! 😊
@@timothyicenhour3119 you're welcome! Just thought...nearly two years ago..Kaji.. a Vocal Expert on UA-cam showcased Johnny Cook's vocal range... l believe he has the song "Here They Come" as his highest note's on record.. but said he was sure he could go higher......
vestal's hair is iconic.
The tower of power!

Not forgetting Rusty Goodman! 🤭
❤
She is the most iconic female vocalist in Gospel music. Her passing was very sad, yet her legacy lives on!
There will never be another like her. I could listen to her all day.
Definitely. But you cannot forget about Johnny cook. No one will ever have a voice like him again
If you don’t know the background, Vestal and Johnny Cook were having a competition to see who could sing higher.
I'm surprised by the low number of views... This is Vestal Goodman in her prime. Love it.
The likely reason for this video having a low number of views is because they watch the full video of it. ua-cam.com/video/rf8f32cDAXA/v-deo.html
Have loved them since I was a child, and I am 67 years old.
Me too !
Love this…my grandfather was a preacher and I grew up listening to this music…I wish this kind of music was still in the churches…
Nothing beats the Happy Goodmans and Southern Gospel music

They're the best. Saw them in concert and it was so awesome. Anointed by our Good Lord above. Gospel music is the best of it all. 🎶🎶❤️
I am new to this fantastic music should broadcast this at all public functions

As I said before...my mother introduced me to the Goodman's as a teenager...stuck like glue! This was in the 60's!!!
I’ve always loved the Happy Goodmans.
Man,those crushed velvet suits! SLICK!

Love this!!!!
Winner of Miss High Hair, Hans down....
She's better as always ❤❤❤
I'm happy to be able to say I've seen the Happy Goodman's a few times.
Drag Queens loved to perform this song when I was young.
How cool!!
Heard this song for the first time at a gay bar in New Orleans and instantly fell in love with it 😂
Della would do this song at Alan’s, in Chattanooga, and it brought the house down every time. Napkins being waved and covering the floor.💚
Love this❤
I love you Vestal! Sing it
Amen
Johnny Cook!!
I want Johnny's hair and jacket.
Holy Moses, Johnny Cook nails it.
I want to start wearing my hair like Vestal
An original!❤️
I know of no law that says you can't.
Knew them they had a relative that needed help and my mom and I helped...
Love these folks!!! You need to add intro before they sing! It is hilarious!! They had a wicked sense of humor!!
❤️❤️🔥❤️
Thomas , all you have to do is get a wiglet with barrel curls and you will have a Vestal Goodman hair doo..
She didn't hit that last note, but he sure did; with room to spare.
I love the song and singers. Yet, look at that do!! 😉😊 I think it was the style in the 70s, not just for Pentecostals!
That hairdo vestal had was from the 70s
He got her lol
I want to start wearing my hair like Vestal Goodman
How does she hold her head up?
I think Brian Free, Johnny Cook and Garry Sheppard would have done a wonderful rendition of this song
Yeah I would have loved to see that! Johnny cook was amazing but I believe Brian free could have came out as the Victor. But I guess we will never know.

I love it! But, is it God exalting or a show?
Here because of #DGR
The higher the hair, the closer to God.
How old is Johnny in the video ?
Marge Simpson hair do!!
Marge wishes
Jesus is rolling over in his grav.....oops, never mind.
I love ❤️ and miss the Happy Goodman family 🙏♥️ and love southern gospel
Two things. It's too high a key for her, she's not singing from the diaphragm. I know this song from a drag queen singing it in a gay bar.
This is THE WORST COPY OF A SONG EVER MADE !!!
I want to start wearing my hair like Vestal
