My younger brother was an avid fan and had tickets to their April 2, 1991 performance but he died similar to the way Michael died, 3 weeks before the show. I sent a telegram to INXS asking them to play a song for him. I went to the Oakland Coliseum show that night in my brother’s place with his best friend, and Michael announced ’We’re gonna play some new songs for ya, from X, this is a song for a guy called Tim, who is somewhere in…Heaven’ then the band broke into ‘By My Side’. I love these guys so much.

@@aarontbradley1 agreed..I was a little kid when inxs would come on the radio.."disappear" was on rotation back then, maybe around 1990ish...I always wanted to hear that song on the radio.
Then I became a teen in 93 when alternative and punk and grunge and metal were at their zenith and I discovered stuff like the misfits and Danzig and nofx and dead Kennedy's and Blatz and alternative stuff like Nirvana of course and James addiction and MTV stuff that was played all the time..
And then bands like Inxs were no longer popular and not played on the radio and barely on VH1 and MTV..but I had an inxs tape, KICK, and I would listen to it when my friends weren't around.
Today I don't hide what I like. I'm 41 and I just like what I like I guess...I still like the music I enjoyed as a teen and as a kid..I cant just listen to just one inxs song..it starts here and I can let an hour go by and I'm still clicking on all those INXS songs.

I'd argue that their first album is pretty hard to listen to. It's amazing how much they improved with their second album.

A beautiful song. They should be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame. So much talent. Not just Michael's voice and songwriting but the whole band. Jon is an underrated drummer. Gary plays awesome bass. Tim plays some if the catchiest riffs. Andrew with his keyboard, songwriting and harmonica. Last but not least Kirk who is one super talented musician. Between back ups rhythm and sax. Kirk was the one who made me want to play sax in middle school

But, if someone wants to find better music, consult your local NPR affiliate or find a good college radio station! Additionally, there are tons of great indie and alternative radio stations all over the country like 92ZEW, Birmingham Mountain Radio, WMVY, WXPN, KGSR….
