Elstree Helicopters Student Danny First Solo in Robinson R44 HERZ with voice over from Capt White

Congratulations student Danny on your FIRST SOLO 🎉 With previous gliding experience it took a little while for a good solid hover to come but practise, practise, practise paid off and Danny was soon taking HERZ nicely into a well controlled hover.
Like a few students recently Danny has been waiting for some settled weather for his next big step and last week the rain finally left a suitable gap. A few circuits and some lift and land revision before it was time for Danny to go it alone… A nervous wait for Capt White’s signature arms and clearance from the tower and away! A super lift into the hover followed by a textbook circuit.
“After finally mastering the hover, which was a lot harder than I’d expected, the next major milestone was my first solo. With the air law exam out of the way, the unseasonal weather seemed to have other ideas, instead doing the DVE, UIMC and lost practices! At last, the wind dropped, the sun came out and I spent the morning fine tuning my landings. When the moment came and Paul got out of the heli, I was actually quite relieved - I knew I would get round the circuit without the engine or hydraulics mysteriously failing! An amazing day, never to forget, and with some great photos to remember it with.” - Danny Luhde-Thompson
