A plant based product that creates jobs, brings foreign income to the country and has no negative effects on the environment, a win win win formula. Wishing all these farmers the very best in growing SA's Red Gold.
I planted mine a few in my backyard on the 11 April. I wanted to see if our soil can grow it. but by the 26 th it blossomed. I couldn't believe it, that's not 40 days.
This was an incredibly interesting story to follow... Marvellous initiative... May your futures be filled with all that you are working so hard for... 🇿🇦
Very impressive. Well done for taking the initiative and for creating jobs. Very encouraging to see South Africans using their knowledge to create employment..we need more initiatives like this.
Subjectively and cynically speaking, saffron can also be a disappointing, massively overpriced seasoning. On par with truffles and caviar. We can often fall for these overhyped, sometimes "mystical" culinary "delights" that suggest amazing palate pleasures - only to be unamazed. Good luck to these farmers with their enterprise though!!
Most 'saffron' is cut with dyed safflower stamin that taste like nothing but are cheap and fill the bottle. I'll bet that's what the problem is. Or it was treated poorly in transit. Spices can be delicate

Such an inspiring story.... and there are so many other projects that SA could embark on..... eg. Truffels in the Cederberg!

Every China shop sells saffron at R10 a packet.
R200,000 per kilo 😳 You shouldn't have aired this , now he's a target.
He probably has massive security around the farm?
