    The Super FX doesn't have sprite scaling per se, it's just really good at the mathematical operations needed to implement it in software. In fact the Super FX doesn't work with sprites or tiles at all-it operates as a framebuffer that gets converted to tiles for use in the main system's VRAM. There are examples of sprite scaling being done on the base hardware alone (e.g. the jet bike race in Chrono Trigger), but they're not terribly impressive. There are also Genesis/MD games that managed sprite scaling in software, like Road Rash and Toy Story. Some of these implementations worked along the same lines as the Neo-Geo's sprite shrinking, by indicating which vertical lines to remove from the sprite as it gets smaller and which to add back as it gets bigger, but without the benefit of the LSPC to do it through hardware.
    I think the Neo-Geo was the only console of the time that could scale sprites in the generally understood sense, but the Atari Lynx sort of could. I say "sort of" since the Lynx technically didn't use sprites-it had a blitter that could manipulate bitmaps in various ways (including scaling) broadly analogous to a sprite-based engine.
    Since I don't want to just come off as a nitpicker, I should add that this is a really great video on a really fantastic (and somewhat strange) piece of hardware. Not hard to see how the Neo-Geo lasted so long with all this under the hood. Arguably the apotheosis of sprite-based video game hardware.

    back in the day in my country we have gray-area thing like " rental home console business " Neo-Geo was $3 usd per 60 minute N64 was $2 usd per 60 minute .. go over there after skool with your friend, you need to buy memory card yourself... life good back then.

    If my memory serves me well the interface between VDP and graphic ROMs was on 32 bit. This way it could load 4bytes per cycle which was huge for those days. Still it didn’t have transparency 🥺. ..

    Love that 4 slot cartridge fitting video and putting them in the wrong way and not pushing them down lol, i had a neogeo back in the day loved it but it wasnt cheap and good video by the way. using the memory cart on the arcade versions was a novelty at best i did it a few times just to see if ity worked and it did.

      They are being installed correctly, remember this is a Japanese MVS cab shown in the video. The only thing that's a bit weird is that they are being installed in reverse slot order (4-3-2-1) but that doesn't really matter.

    Isn't SNES capable of zoom natively? Isn't that the same as scaling?

      The SNES has mode 7, which is capable of scaling a single background layer. It can not scale sprites.
