I prefer the 2 buckle, 3 strap combo. That way, I just get the same buckle in gold and silver, so I can easily match my metals as well as the leathers.
One thing you never mention about Anson Belts is the hanger they sell specifically for their belts. Uses the same ratcheting system. I love that darned thing.
I used to have a friendly competition at work with my buddy of who could dress better…one of the girls at work told me, “You will always win because you don’t have ear hair and take care of your grooming better”. It was that day I realized grooming is essential along with all the other details. Haha #legend
Ha! So true!
This is a great remedial on creating a good style by paying attention to detail. I loved that you saved the best for the last, the unspoken "skid marks" issue.
Ha! Gotta save the bonus content for the end lol!
When you used the term "coordinate" it reminded me of that scene in the movie _Boomering_ featuring John Witherspoon. 😁
A miracle my daughter told me about. Dawn dish soap for stains. I am not kidding, it is amazing! Put it liberally on the stain, wait a few minutes or even an hour, then wash it normally. Gone! I’ve actually used it on a number of shirts and pants that have been in the back of my closet or hanging in the basement for years… stain gone even though I had washed them numerous times. You will be blown away !
Great tip!
@tmc. Can testify to this. It’s true.
I agree with keeping the collar inside the sweater. And, if you are wearing a shirt without a button down collar, a magnetic collar stay would work perfectly in that regard.
Absolutely!
I appreciate John making videos and uploading content regularly as coming up with all the different types of video ideas and angles consistently is no small feat. I can relate to these videos and try to click on all the new uploads even if I don’t have time to watch them in their entirety.
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Regarding the scuff marks on white shoes or any shoe for that matter that comes from the car hump,I wear some older shoes to drive in and change into my nice shoes when I get to an event.Real easy and no stains on my good shoes. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for sharing!
Ah Johnny, Johnny, my ironing skills are on par with yours, fumbling the spray can made me laugh, keep up the good advice.
Ha! Thanks for watching!
I did NOT see that last one coming! 🤣🤣
Haha! It’s a pretty important detail!
Thanks John.
You’re welcome!
Appreciate the post. Not mentioned about shoe trees, it also removes the moisture and smell from your shoes/boots.
Hey John I am 61 living in Manitoba , Canada and just recently discovered your channel, just wanted to say great job and keep up the informative videos, I am at a stage were I dress to feel good , look good and not to impress , been their done that. Your videos have introduced me to new items such as Thursday boots own a Brandy Captain and just ordered Matt black Captain.
Much appreciated! Thank you!
Preach, shoe trees are essential for care , longevity and look of cherished footwear
Yes!
John, I more than "like" your videos. Absolutely love them and I look forward to them very week.
If there is one word to describe your style is class. You are meticulously dressed and in addition your commentaries/opinions are also that of class and tact without sacrificing who you are. Because of you I am ever more conscious of my appearance . I iron, match socks to pants, shoes & belts, use collar stays and have a seamstress who tailors my pants and on occasion coats and jackets for an upscale look. Thank you!
You’re very welcome!
As always, thanks for keeping us sharp John. 👍
Always! Thanks for watching!
Skid marks in CHONES. I love it.
Haha!
Time for fall and winter scents.
Yes! Video coming!
Totally love this ‼️ 👍🏻 🎉
😂😂😂 here in México the most of people say "chones",I think it comes from calzones...underware cloth.Nice video.
Ha! Thank you!
Enjoying your approach to mens fashion.
Shirts. I’m all for shirts without pockets!! Why do they even put a pocket on a shirt, if not for putting your cigarettes in it!! I’m a non-smoker 😂
Love your comments about’Skid-Marks’ 😅😅
Haha! Thank you!
Thank you John for the link to Anson belt!! What a great holiday gift for my husband!!❤
You’re so welcome! He’ll love it!
Great video John! thanks for sharing. I wasn't expecting the last part 😮😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video John!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great video as always. Having a good tailor to make your "off the rack" stuff fit great makes a huge difference.
Absolutely!!
Great video and tips John!
Appreciate that!
Hello John
Always Appreciate Your Fashion Tips ..
Thanks
My pleasure!
All good and valid points. Great video on the basics!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Thanks for this
My pleasure!
This video should especially be watched by men under 30. I can't tell you how many times I've had business meetings with someone under 30 and their clothes look like they have slept in them. And the worst: a guy in a decent sport coat and slacks, wearing sneakers. It makes it hard for me to take that person seriously. I'm 44. In my 20s, I showed up for work in dry cleaned, pressed clothes, clean, polished shoes and always well groomed. Even when I went to the clubs in LA in my 20s and early 30s, my friends and I would put in effort to look as good as possible. Now maybe that's not as important in the Midwest or South but going out in a Tap Out t-shirt or a t-shirt that's sold in 3 packs at Wal-Mart somehow seems to be acceptable now. My goal at the clubs was always to attract an educated woman who had her shit together and I never felt I would do that in a an ill fitting shirt and wrinkled jeans. As a recent widower, it pains me that at some point I will probably go back out on the market and deal with the complete lack of personal care that appears to be acceptable now. My late wife was a fashion model in NYC in her early and mid 20s and never left the house without looking her best. Even if we were just going to Coffee Bean on a Saturday morning, she would take 30-60 minutes to get ready. Initially it drove me crazy but then when I would see the looks she got and the looks I got from guys who were jealous that she was with me, it made it all worth it. She always quoted that old expression, "you only have one chance to make a first impression."
Keep up the great work. I preach the same things you do to my younger friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately, 90% of the time it falls on deaf ears.
Big YES on first impressions! Thanks for sharing!
Great content thank you
Very welcome!
Wash shirts, then dry clean with lightly starch, people notice 😊 always looks crisp and professional
🔥👍as Always. Thank you !
You bet!
Spot on mate 👌. Yet another great vid! - Goes without say8ng “no skids and collars in” 🤓👍
Exactly!
I own 8 straps and 6 buckles from Anson and they are great. I also had an issue with a strap and they took care of it right away. They stand behind their product and that says a lot about a company.
Absolutely agree 100%!
Just about to go to sleep and then I see John has uploaded. Dam you John 😉
Love ya really ❤
Ha! Hope you enjoyed it!
Once again amigo, a good item listed on the video has managed to make me buy an item as the video plays. The details tell story, great video.
Thank you very much!
Have you ever thought of fashion for the rain? Sadly, not every country has fall and winter. But I am assuming every country experiences rainfall.
Great suggestion!
@@40OverFashion glad you like it. 🙂
Like the added habit of ironing at home. Everyday l iron my formal shirts by hand -- much better than going to the dry cleaner and keeps the garment much longer.
Absolutely!
I took your advice a couple of months ago and checked out Anson’s belts. Revolutionary! And you are right about customer care… it’s almost like family. I’ve turned a couple of buddies and my son-in-law onto them, and they love them too! The $99 deal is incredible. And, the belt hanger is perfect for keeping the belts organized.
I’m 67 and recently got my shit together after a 3 year downhill slide after my wife’s death. You’re helping me reinvent my wardrobe (lost almost 70lbs since she passed}. Thanks, John
Love it! You’re very welcome!
Good ol magic eraser works great on the white sneakers sole
Yes it does!
Great tips! I'd recommend SweatBlock for pit stains. I've been using that product for over 5 years now.
Thanks for the tip!
Great episode. Details, details, details. Only thing I didn't need to see was the b-roll underwear visual!! 🤣
Ha! Sorry about that :)
Thanks for this video John. I have some older polo shirts that I love to wear, but their collars are quite wrinkled, so I guess I'll have to iron it out. Also, another tip would be to make sure you do away with clothing that has holes, rips, or tears in it.
Yes, absolutely!
F*ckin' love your videos, John! Thanks.😂
F’ing appreciate you! Thanks for watching!
A couple of suggestions … no need to purchase a special sneaker cleaning kit. Just look for Mr. Clean “Magic Erasure” in the laundry aisle of your grocery store. Simply dampen the sponge (several in the box) and wipe the dirt/marks off your white sneakers. Works like “magic”. 😉👍🏻. Second suggestion … eliminate the yellowing of shirts in the pit of your underarms by switching to ALUMINUM FREE deodorant. Look for the spray can to say “aluminum free”. THAT is what causes the telltale yellowing. 😮. It was time for me to replace my white tees anyway and I decided at the same time to switch to ALUMINUM FREE DEODORANT … viola … no more yellow stains! 👍🏻. #Legend
Hi John
Any advice on this
I have followed your tips and have sum nice threads but seem to go to my old crappy stuff?
I'm surprised you received backlash for the collar inside a sweater look. I always felt those who didn't tuck their collar in were a bit careless. Same with wearing a shirt and sweater and leaving the shirt untucked. It never looks clean cut or polished.
Another great video John. Trainers that are messy are I agree a big no no.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
I really need to get a better ironing board
I have quick question.. I have a couple pairs of canvas sneakers, what do you recommend for cleaning them?
I don’t have any canvas sneakers, but I remember several years ago, putting them in the washing machine.
Wet wipes. 👍
Haha! Exactly!
I understand you not using starch but if i put Magic Sizing on that folded over area under the button holes, it will, after a few washings and re-applying will help that stay in place or at least neater so there isn't as much to do to straighten it. Plus i think the magic sizing helps protect the fabric and makes it look better, longer.
Appreciate the tip!
Never take legal advice from a kid
Never take fashion advice from old people. (Like 80)
Great video.
No backwards hats after 45.
John Lobb bespoke shoes and all is fixed 😉
No backwards hats at any age. Period!!
I am guilty of the stained white shoes. When I get too lazy, I just stop wearing them, which defeats the purpose of owning them. I began using shoe trees last year, and they are a game changer! If you have a lot of shoes, just use the cheaper plastic ones for cheaper shoes and the expensive wooden ones for dress/expensive shoes.
Good suggestion!
Throw the iron. Will do... 😅❤
Surprise ending, for sure. LOL
Haha! All the good bonus content is at the end lol!
Not the chonies 😂
Even though I absolutely "HATE" to iron, a good hack is to own a can of heavy duty spray starch and if need me "douse" your wrinkled clothing 😂😊😅. Thanks again for your "appreciated" fashion tips. 🙏.
Ha! You’re welcome!
1:53, if you dont use any type of starch, then what is in the mister bottle? Water, I assuming?
Yes, water.
Black CK trunks, what skid marks where?
Haha!
Great topics, but was the last one necessary?!
All the bonus content comes at the end of the videos lol!
9:12 😂😅 wth? That one threw me off. Who does that?
Why don't you use the steamer on your iron instead of spray bottle
We have hard water here in California and that ruins the internals of the iron. It also puts hard water deposits on your clothes. I use filter water in the spray bottle. It just makes things a little bit easier.
A solid color dress shirt without button-down collar just looks janky without a tie imho. Finally got some blacks with button downs got more-casual gigs. Short sleeve or sport shirts: fine. Realizing the last one finally got me off of all-whites a few years back. Yikes.
Thanks Robert!
Hi John, great video. I have hunted high and low in both NZ and Australia and cannot find the horseshoe collar supports you have mentioned on your channel. Do you think we could hook up and you send me 3 of these collar supports. I will need your bank account to drop some $ in both for the collar supports and post and packaging. I hope this is not too weird but your help would be most appreciated. Cheers
Slick Collar on Amazon.
Thanks John, haven't used Amazon, so I will give it a try.
I am here because I like your style and your video but I agree with you always say about style being personal... If you allow me, a round neck sweater (and possibly any sweater) without a collar (shirt or polo) gives me the idea of wearing a pyjama. Also, I find you keep the sleeves in this video too short, I get the feeling that you are about to immerse your arms in water to wash something, for example.
The selling is getting pretty aggressive: Amazon, shoe cleaners, belts. It is definitely a turn-off.
Sorry about that. I’m just making suggestions on things that might help.
Don’t talk about underwear. Please. That was TMI.
Way too much overthinking, most people don’t care to that level of detail, total waste of time
Trainers grrrrr😂
Thanks John, as ever a great reminder of the basic essentials of style and looking and by extension, feeling better! The devil is always in the details, get those right and everything else will fall into place. (was CmdrbondUK on here but UA-cam for some stupid reason randomly deleted my profile!). Cheers!
Cheers!
