- Construction of a 1/8th scale Rider Ericsson Hot Air pumping engine.
Originally produced in the late 1800's for domestic water supply.
The water pumped also served to cool the cold side of the cylinder and improved performance.
Any form of heat supply coal, wood, gas or oil but this scale model runs on a spirit burner.
Constructers in the USA can purchase castings but these are prohibitively expensive to ship to the UK so I decided to do all myself. Always did like a challenge!

Amazing job!
Very well done. 1/8th scale of which original pumping engine? What's the beam length on yours model?
Thank you. It's based on the Ericsson 8" version so my working piston is 1" dia. The beam is 98mm long centre to centre.
@@creast56 Very nice. Unfortunately the casting kits from Myers are to heavy to ship to UK at an economical cost. I'll have to work something else out.
@@rogtallbloke Yes, as I mention above, it is too expensive to ship from USA which is why I did my own castings.
It was quite an ordeal over many months.
Hi does this come in a kit. Rudy
No. It was all scratch built including the castings by myself. The plans for the bigger 1/4 scale version are on my GrabCad site. There used to be a supplier of the castings but not available in the UK
