World class performance

If we have a goalscoring problem it is the lack of 4-5 goal scoring midfielders and defenders. Ozil is the only non striker who regularly scores goals.
All the English pundits care about is getting a tough tackle in and running around like a headless chicken, they can't appreciate what ozil brings to the game because he doesn't tackle or break up play.

This new system suits Ozil, playing in the 2 of the 3-4-2-1. It lets him control the game a bit more and he seems to be working really well with Xhaka. Importantly, it also means he is putting in good performances like these even when he's not at his technical best, or brimming with confidence and trying amazing through balls and touches. I sometimes felt that Ozil needed those to have a good game, and that's risky, cos if they don't come off, you begin not doing them, which for him meant his performances were going south, so he's not confident enough to try them.
