@@MrNeutralParty no not same, unc is nit bound thanks to duke, unc isnt getting in with 13 losses, they will lose in the acc tourney and finish with 13 losses, but this is the big loss that helped knock them out of the ncaa tourney
I'm a lifelong UNC fan and I'm embarrassed. I never felt that way losing to elite Duke teams in the past. This Duke team is average at best. They're not a top 30 team. Any elite UNC team would crush them by 25. This UNC team unfortunately is garbage. That run last year was fool's gold.

John Scheyer did an awesome job recruiting his first season! The Banquero, Zion, Marvin Bagley teams were good but this team is well put together with dominating inside presence and awesome guards that can settle the game in and they are clicking at the right time. they are going to shock a lot of people in the tournament!!! LETS GO
He played a heavy role in recruiting of those teams too. The Banchero team was the best put together because it matched the size for inside scoring, rebounding and defense with more holdovers from prior seasons and Paolo was a superior talent. The key for Scheyer will be how many from this team stick around for another season.
But I agree, this was a good start for Scheyer and next season is loaded with shooters but looks to be without a big time defensive presence in the middle... Lively would be an enormous if they can keep him but I doubt he stays and they'll likely look to a transfer.
@@mike2687 I agree but I also think Lively should stay an additional year to develop his game cause rite now on offense the dunk is all he has. I think Proctor will be a key role next season especially if Roach returns for his senior season. Doubt they will be able to hang on to Flip though
@@robertwiesner79 - Should stay vs will stay are sadly very different things. He’ll have agents, family and “friends” all telling him he can develop those same things after he’s drafted while either on the team or in their developmental league just as well as he can at Duke. Hopefully they’ll be more family and true friends giving him better advice.
I think Proctor is gone and the same for Whitehead-Dariq is still a projected 1st rounder despite the setbacks. If he stays, and is either injured again or ineffective, then his stock plummets. Again, a guy that should stay but probably won’t.

I think Mitchell returns and has a big sophomore season and hopefully Roach does as well. Honestly, two returning starters is about as much as we can ask for at Duke…. But I’m greedy and think Lively would be key for a title run.

Flip’s aggressiveness won us this game. He was in attack mode all night long. If he settles for 2-3 more jumpers instead of back downs, UNC wins.
He reminds me on Paulo. Not as athletic, but just as important for this team’s success and it all depends on his aggressiveness

you realise duke would have won the acc regular season title and been the 1 seed for the acc tournament if the refs had called those fouls at the end of the virginia tech and virginia games, both no calls cost duke 2 losses and they would have had 4 acc losses only and the best record in the acc

UNC started as the preseason #1 and has been a monumental failure . Almost unprecedented and the fault lies squarely with the coaching staff for not instilling discipline, intensity , and focus. This team has been drunk on last year's success.

Up 15 at the half of the National Championship and couldn't deliver...they should close the doors and shut the basketball program down.
Bill Self looses 70 pct of their offense from last year. Playing in the toughest conference in America he win the conference. He is now poised to win another championship. Hubert Davis is a good guy but not at coaching now. The stage is too big for him. He has no clue what he is doing.
Self has gotta 3 tons of breaks during his tenure at Kansas. Including his 2 chips.
How in the world is duke not ranked at all
Whitehead is not going to help us this year wish he never got hurt but at this point we need to see his minutes decrease because he is a liability for us.
You must have not watched many games, he’s performed very well in some games and shown flashes that he can be very good
@@jakeswicegood4382 I am one of the biggest duke fans on earth. You could not truly think he has helped in any game that truly matter. His shot is inconsistent and he is never driving to the lane which if you watched the first scrimmage you would see he is not the same player. He is likely going to be like Giles not much of an impact due to injury. If you think he helped look at unc and unc state games he was no impact. You could not have watched unc vs Duke he basically gave them a 6 point swing dribbling the ball off his leg. He was a beast but at the present moment he’s not who he was and if you don’t see that you are blind. Let’s go Duke but let’s be real.
@@mcmotivation5153 - Can't say he isn't going to help is like saying nearly any player off the bench doesn't help which makes little basketball sense. At the same time, he can't be called the key to the team making a run based on the pre injury hype.
Also can't complain too much about his inconsistency vs UNC and State when Proctor went 6-18 in those games including 0-4 from long range with only 5 boards and 4 assists--in 64 starter minutes but he's still a major piece.
What he is right now is clear--he's a role player and that role is shooting the long ball and playing defense while spelling the starters some rest time. He's been a decent defender averaging but is easily their best long range shooter--Roach and Proctor lead the team in 3 point makes with 38 apiece on 116 and 126 attempts while Whitehead's 34 makes come on just 83 attempts = 40%
So yeah, he isn't a game wrecker, but he's been an efficient player off the bench... besides, decreasing his minutes simply means an increase in Grandison's who had straight zeroes across the stat line other than FGA.
The injury was unfortunate... but they don't have a better perimeter option than DW at his position off the bench.
@@mike2687 I will agree with you on a lot but my true intentions is that he is not going to be that guy that will leads us to a championship as he is not himself and has lost confidence and it shows in his game as he is not the player he will be. And yes he is a role player but he was never supposed to be a role player he was supposed to be like a star player and has not lived up to his potential at all here Flip is the only one playing like he was ranked…. I want Duke to win so I want him to be a beast but he has yet to show he is and that is obvious….

Also, this isn't a championship caliber team and would unlikely be favorites even with a full potential Whitehead.
Not based on talent, rather, based on what we've seen with other teams put together with talent and no history of playing together... the NBA player filled USA teams that lost multiple international and even LBJ's first year with Miami--all losing to inferior talent with experience playing together.
For as long as the OAD era has existed, even Coach K never dealt with such turnover with such few returning contributors... only starter being Roach and only Blakes as a non-factor reserve.
I estimated their ACC losses to be 7-8 prior to Whitehead's injury and not knowing how little offense that would come along with Lively's defense. My expectations were less consistency then we've seen based on recent Duke history.
In truth, I'm impressed with this team from the players to the coaching staff.
If UNC woulda won the NCAA last year, I wouldnt call it a fluke. Feels like Hubert Davis has a very long road to get back at the final four again, let alone the championship game. Im still amazed how a rookie coach was able to get so far so quickly. Duke looks impressive without their legendary Coach K but they too are not the same with these new coaches. With the transfer portal and NIL, I think we have seen the last of the blue chip schools.
What a stupid comment. UNC was good for one month last season and got hot. This is exactly who they are and Hubert should absolutely be on the hot seat. Scheyer is just getting started. Duke is going nowhere, Lord.

Duke has struggled with injuries and a first year head coach and still has an outside chance at a 4 seed. Some of these guys will come back plus a great recruiting class. Duke will go right back to where they were. This yr will be an anomaly, not a pattern
