    Opening joke about your grandfather was great mato. You have the only channel where I am always rolling on the floor, and laughing out loud. ;) game was pretty intense, i'm very glad alekhine decided to play the bishop sacrifice variation for the last move. Just shows he was a player who loved to put on a show.

    Alekhine was a big fan of h2-h4 to support the Bishop on g5 instead of exchanging on e7 or moving the bishop off the d8-h4 diagonal. He suggested it against Lasker's Defence in the Queens Gambit Declined, and the Alekhine-Chatard variation in the French Defence is named after him. I only got to play h2-h4 once. in a species of Lasker Defence. My opponent looked shocked, and refused the pawn sacrifice. I won very quickly.

    Unfortunately, I'm too rubbish to use psychology. It usually works against me - when I have the material advantage and playing with weaker opponent, I sometimes lose my focus and blunder badly :(

      Hardest thing to do in chess, and life in my opinion, is to convert a winning position. Victory is often snatched away from us when we are closest to it.

    • @jakewoden8554
      @jakewoden8554 8 років тому +5

      +Freakland No, It's actually called "playing to the level of your opponent"; one can play a great game against a strong opponent, followed by a lousy effort against a weak one.

    At 4:26, instead of psychological move, what if black played pawn to f5?
    at 2:43, 10... Ne8-d6 is the 'best move'. But three moves later, at 3:02 commentary says Nd6-e8 is the best move. Not very satisfactory.

    Not a lot of subtlety in this game, there was the sheer volume of information today. h4 was extremely obvious. Neither of these players would do very well today. Alekhine was known for bad habits of thought and health. Pretty basic beginner type game with not much going on in terms of position.
