  • Day 5 and 6 of our Everest 3 Passes Trek. This video covers the trekking route between Junbesi and Bupsa with an over night stay in Nunthala.
From Nunthala on wards we link up with the trail that anyone staring in Salleri would be taking. Another common starting point for those not flying into Lukla.
Salleri is the last road access point to the Solukhumbu region aka the Everest region. From Nunthala on we started to encounter massive amounts of donkey trains taking supplies up to areas that do not have road access.
If I ever do the trek again I will likely start in Salleri and I recommend it for anyone with a few extra days. It adds about 3 days each way as opposed to flying into Lukla but those three days are very helpful in acclimatization. Salleri is a little over 2000m and starting here allows you to gradually raise in elevation up to the over 5000m points you will reach on either the Base Camp or Three passes trek.
The distance between Junbesi and Nunthala is around 16km with a large drop in elevation just before getting to Nunthala.
Nunthala to Bupsa is about 11km with the first half of the trail mostly down hill and the second half mostly up hill.
Jubing which is about half way between Nunthala and Bupsa would be the lowest elevation on the trek at around 1900m. This means you actually trek from 1900m all the way up to the 5400m Passes or Base Camp. As mentioned above this is very helpful for acclimatization.
Don't forget to watch the whole trek series starting with our trip from Kathmandu to Jiri the link is below.
