      Oh it's good for stomach issues too. In fact my favorite store-bought tea is chamomile-peppermint! Together it's warm in your tummy and you're ready for a good night's sleep! 💤

    As an indigenous mom, we always make cedar tea for coughs and beginnings of a cold. Mint tea is what we use at bedtime to help us go to sleep or to help us relax.

      Cedar tea? That's wonderful! Is it just the outermost layer of bark? Please, if you see this, I love introducing my grandsons to "new to them" things, ideas and knowledge about what the earth provides for us. As well, I try to resist just looking up everything immediately rather then talking to people. Such an old fashioned idea! Anyway, any information I could share with them or recommendations on materials would be appreciated. While there's tons of info online, I find it's at least inaccurate, at worst, intentionally misleading .

    • @SusanA1056
      @SusanA1056 Рік тому

      @@LynnMTHA Just pick a few tiny sprigs off a cedar tree. The leafy part. Boil a pot of water to a rolling boil (with nothing in it.) remove from heat, drop in the cedar sprigs and cover for just a few minutes to let it steep. Remove the cedar, (can be used another time.) pour into mug. You can add honey if you have a cough. It is very mild, very little taste. Don't drink more than one cup a day and only for a few days. The tea is pale green and although you would expect it to taste gross, like a cedar tree in your mug, in fact it doesn't taste like that at all. It is amazing at curing the early cold.

      Lay out the flowers in a single layer and allow them to dry for 1 to 2 weeks in a dark, warm, dry space.
      Dehydrate - Dry flowers on a lined dehydrator tray to prevent tiny dried blossoms from falling through the mesh.

      Yep. Some are small, but others can be big. In my tropical country, the flowers are almost twice larger than these. That's not all, the leaves can also be used for tea, but it's going to be bitter, so we use mostly flower parts.

I just take fresh leaves and put them in hot water. Our sage grows in full soil (no pots) and survives occasionally freezing winters (no continuous freezes)

How long do you let the peppermint dry and how do you store them? I am a novice at all of this. I had relatives that would grow them although growing up I never paid much attention to what they did with them except planting and consuming them. Just lay them out on a dry, clean surface to dry for a couple of days. Store them somewhere dry and cool. I would put them in a paper bag before putting them in the shoe box or you could just use a glass jar. You could also try one of those devices that sucks the air out & seals the container. To make tea, just pour boiling water over a couple of teaspoons worth. Then strain it before drinking or use a tea ball.

      @@nicktl8815 Chamomile Gone!! Thank goodness I was able to harvest some of the flowers for tea. UGH!!! After I pulled some flowers I decided to give this patch some water to make it easier to dig up. The neighbor wife was out there with me and we were talking about relocating the flowers that she and I have planted in the last couple years. She went to the store, I went in to get all my "digging stuff" came out and the entire area had been cut down! My neighbor husband decided at the last minute to just cut down what he thought were weeds. They were wildflowers plus my chamomile. I cried. He cut down to the ground so I really can't see where the roots are. Im afraid this beautiful batch is gone. Thanks for your reply though.

    • @angeladyson7367
      @angeladyson7367 6 років тому +2

      TMT1473 There are at least 5 different varieties of Chamomile. They're all from the Asteraceae family Neither Roman Chamomile nor German Chamomile are considered weeds by those who love and use them though German Chamomile has a common name of Scented Mayweed but many medicinal/healing herbs are often thought to be weeds...there is a weed similar to chamomile called pinapple weed because it smells like pineapple but it doesn't usually reach much taller than a few inches, both Roman Chamomile and German Chamomile can be used for tea for similar purposes. They are both medicinal and can both be used for tea. Roman grows up to about 10cm high german can grow up to 60cm high, Chamomile Treneague (used for lawns) grows up to 6cm high, Dyers (used for dye) grows up to 1mtr & Double-Flowered (used for ground cover) grows up to 8cm. I hope this determines what you have there. ☺

    • @angeladyson7367
      @angeladyson7367 6 років тому

      TMT1473 If it's more than 10cm high it's not likely to be pineapple weed or lawn chamomile. Roman Chamomile although low growing has long stems. You could pick a single flower head and crush it between your fingers to see if you get an apple like smell. Measure how tall it's grown that will give you a good idea. Chamomile can grow in the wild. It probably is Chamomile. Check the size of the flower head also. A chamomile flower head isn't likely to be more than an inch wide in full bloom. Also if you pick some for tea make sure you pick about a handfull at least as when you dry them they'll shrink a great deal. Although the guy in this video says it doesn't matter if you leave a little stem in, I've found it makes a hude differnce in taste, the stems really can make your lovely Chamomile tea bitter and produce more tannins in the tea. There are also lots of videos on youtube about how to make chamomile tea. ☺

      Why would you feel deceived? He did work for a company for that name and I have watched his awsome videos. Glad he's saving his knowledge and talent for his own company. Luke, may the Nature Force be with you 🌴
