American football fans won't really care, regardless of how good this movie is or how unassailable the research is with regards to football causing brain damage. Ultimately, they will shell out billions of dollars from their own pockets to see men bash each other's brains out, even knowing how harmful it is. Why? The reason why they insist on supporting this unnecessarily barbaric sport is because American football fans value the sense of machismo that the sport of football gives them more so than the welfare of their fellow man. The sad thing is that this glorification of football as being the measure of a man is so bad that it causes normally protective parents to subject their young sons to this sport in middle and high school.
+Drake Santiago If you know the risks but want to play thats fine. I know MMA fighters who know the risk, but simply love the sport so much its worth that risk. The liberal position is personal choice. There is nothing immoral about spending money on the NFL if the players are informed and now the risk.
Matthewn57 Could be. And it's not just star wars. It's revenant and hateful eight. Even adults who doesn't care about star wars are gonna pick one of the other two.
In the end, they decided to go with Will Smith's star power. Still, I think Djimon Hounsou of Gladiator and Blood Diamond fame would've added a taste of authenticity; PLUS, he's a better dramatic actor than Smith in my opinion.
I get the feeling he was more against the sort of propagandizing this movie sounds like it gets into, in a way similar to how he felt about movies like 'Zero Dark 30' as an example. Changing key pieces of the record and introducing a lie to cover up where the real story didn't support the story the filmmakers wanted to tell. Obviously there would have been more gagging for him (or anyone) with *_'30'_* ("Torture works people, it saved our great nation!") but the overall effect to distort the record is what's getting stuck in his craw. My feeling.
Unfortunately - it is about MONEY and not about the players being taken care of. I believe for that reason they are paid out rageous amout of money. Thank God because once the brain has had so many concussion I don't think the brain can survive the out come of it.
Soooo. Was it a good movie? Was Will Smith performance good is it Oscar worthy? That's all I wanted to know. Though it is helpful to know its nor all about what the trailers said so I don't watch it confused but is it good? Alonso said no Matt said yes lol
A lot of people have praised his performance and have said the cast carries the movie, but overall critics have said the movie is pretty solid, with great performances by Will and the cast.
God I wanna see a movie where Will Smith makes me laugh again. He's a great actor and I've looked up to him since I was very young and he only became greater when I found out he had ADHD (like myself) but I really want to see him in a comedy again.
I just saw the movie. It is only okay at best. Albert Brooks is fantastic! I think an interesting movie would be about the corruption that leads for the city to pay for a stadium rather than the NFL when closing schools and raising taxes. I'm Canadian so to me football is stupid. Solid 5 out of 10.
Rugby doesn't have this problem in such a huge manner, i think part of it is cause of the helmets...maybe they need to do something about the techniques in AM Football.
Norma_ott rugby is a vastly different game. On the surface they seem similar but they are vastly different. Different body types (rugby requires more cardio and more endurance, in general more well rounded athletes, football requires higher levels of strength or speed depending on position, more extreme athletic traits and specialization, for example an offensive linemen have pretty impresive power lifts, and some NFL cornerbacks are just slightly slower than 100m runners. the fastest NFL cornerbacks can run 100m in under 10 seconds, They are at near olympic levels. In fact many elite american athletes choose to pursue the NFL, rather than be an olypmic runner, because there is much more money in pro sports than the olympics), different pace, etc. Rugby is continuous motion and action. Football is set pieces of action, followed by breaks, then repeat. Eg. offensive calls a play snaps the ball, runs the play, and then the ball is dead, repeat. The defense has time to reset and take running starts at the offense. "Football at the time was particularly dangerous and violent. In 1905 alone, at least 18 people died and more than 150 were injured playing football. According to the Washington Post, at least 45 football players died from 1900 to October 1905, many from internal injuries, broken necks, concussions or broken backs." www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2014/05/29/teddy-roosevelt-helped-save-football-with-a-white-house-meeting-in-1905/ People who suggest taking helmets off are ignorant of actual history of american football. Back in the day it was rare for a college football season where someone didnt die. Helmets greatly reduced the deaths.
MrDuds1984 Helmets and pads have saved more lives than anything else in football. In 1905 alone, at least 18 people died and more than 150 were injured playing football. According to the Washington Post, at least 45 football players died from 1900 to October 1905, many from internal injuries, broken necks, concussions or broken backs. The protective equipment saves lives. Sure people are dying 30 years after their career, but back in the day people were dying on the field. You want to go back to that? People who recommend less pads or helmets are just ignorant of the actual history.

+Shadibih Afrikani
at least MMA is 1000000000 safer than American football
Best comment regarding how football is a major harm that is viewed as apart of American Culture.
I had high hopes that this movie really took on the NFL head on in this movie, but it sounds like a strange biopic. Watch Frontline instead.
+schmoab - I totally agree. When dealing with real life, melodrama rarely exceeds the drama of real life. And, Hollywood rarely gets the story right.
will smith wants an Oscar should be the new meme
+Sudev Sen nice emoji
Why does a film like this come out at christmas? This is not the kind of film people are gonna wanna go and see during the holidays.
That's what they are hoping for to say that it didn't do well because of the holiday and star wars the perfect scapegoat
Matthewn57
Could be. And it's not just star wars. It's revenant and hateful eight. Even adults who doesn't care about star wars are gonna pick one of the other two.
the hateful eight is a great christmas film
Joe Johnson
It does have plenty of snow.
+basquat76 Serious or award contender movies tend to come out this time of year because it's right before awards season.

What the hell is going on? Ben's watching the movies now? I didn't see that coming!
Wait so Ben's issue was the political correctness of the movie and how inaccurate it is? So I'm guessing he hated Braveheart, the Oscar winning movie?
+Cameren Ceniceros I know a lot of people who hate braveheart.
+ruthiehenshallfan99 I'm one of them.

+ruthiehenshallfan99 if they hate it cause of how inaccurate it is, then you somehow miss the point of what a movie is
+Shadowman4710 if you hate it for inaccuracy then you shouldn't have watched it, you should've just read a wiki page

If only they knew. Alonso is obviously not a football fan.

Everything's a 6. Such a safe, vanilla, not going out on a limb, score...
From the trailer alone, I can tell I'm gonna be annoyed by Will Smith's abominable attempt at a Nigerian accent
Yeah, it was the most galling thing to me too. I could tell it was a horrible attempt at some faux pan-African accent after a few words.
+Daeron II Targaryen same. took me out of the trailer, pretty sure would be unbearable if i tried to watch the movie
I can tell they were getting paid to shit on this movie.
dont put shoulder pads in and try to break players neck then
Football still goes on. Ugh. Decent movie though.
remove helmets nd they won't be as gung ho about it.
+Norma_ott
The reason helmets were implemented in the first place is because guys were dying on the field in college football.

Helmets greatly reduced the deaths.
Ditka has said this, remove the helmets or go back to leather helmets and players will not lead with their heads, it's pretty simple

UGH . . . football . . . (running away as fast as I can). Never on Sunday. Never by choice.
+JozieLeePro *american football. Real football one uses their feet.
Well, I'm American so football is American football to me. I never think of soccer as football. Sorry. Quirk of American imperialist mindset. :o)
The dude on the far right is such an NFL sympathizer.
Looks bad
Will's accent...urgh.
+Norma_ott I am an African living in the west, his accent is good. My male relatives over here sound like that.
lol i'm an African living in the west also and i think he's awful
As a child of Nigerian immigrants, I hear his effort and some syllables are close, but he still misses.
+Rosannasfriend
yeah, because everyone from Africa has the exact same accent -.-
+ddhuzjak lol
Oh guys... Now I know you're being paid to eat crap and talk about it.
