Neil confirmed they were in love however on a different interview I say said he wasn’t comfortable making MAJOR changes when adapting the screenplay due to Sir Terry Pratchett no longer being alive and able to give his approval.
@@iamqueenkk while I understand why Neil Gaiman might not want to make significant changes if you look at Pratchett's work, especially his later work, there really is nothing to suggest that Pratchett would have been offended by the change. He was always sensitive to changes in culture and would see why it is more important to include representation than be faithful to adaptation, I believe. Even if they could have just explicitly discussed it - even having Aziraphale talk about the angels are sexless thing - I would have liked that.
Something about what Alex said here really struck me. People really only go, “Why can’t guys just be really good bros?” when it’s fans talking about how they read a particular relationship as gay. You hardly ever see those kinds of critics comment on toxic masculinity in any other context. And it’s frustrating because these characters usually don’t end up being canonically, visibly gay anyway!
@@Allison_Hart both are rooted in toxic masculinity. Cishet men tend to fear gay men because they see that as being weak or a failure when in actuality most gays are way stronger because of the oppression we face. So they are in fact linked. It doesnt help that when cis men and cis women even look at each other too fondly theyre instantly seen as some secret couple. Its gross. Just let people be friends and let gays exist..
I remember this exact fucking comment in the early days of Torchwood about Jack/Ianto, where the slashers started taking note of the increased Jack/Ianto moments as eps went on and going '...I think this is getting towards canon' and other fans in the lj community were going 'clearly just Jack flirting, Ianto's straight, stop projecting'. The maniacal laughter/fandom scream at 'lots of things you can do with a stopwatch' could be heard from space.
It even happens when the fans explicitly say that that's how they interpret it and that they understand it's not canon. And then there's all these people yelling at often fairly young fans for having opinions which in the kindest of contexts is still being a dick.

Phoebe Buffay had the gay eyes for SO many women yet the only time the word "bisexual" is used in ALL of Friends is when Phoebe herself sang a song about bisexuals "kidding themselves" for not choosing gay or straight. UGH.

I interpreted the song as it being her addressing bi stereotypes because she said "and then there are bisexuals, even though some say they're just kidding themselves"
No mention of the grandfathers of “should’ve been gay” Kirk and Spock? A whole new Vulcan word was created to describe their “”ambiguous”” relationship; t’hy’la.
Also Charles Xavier and Magneto. In the 90's animated television series they are "enemies" in season 1. In season 2 they get a mysterious message each telling the other they are dying and want to see each other. It's a trick and they spend nearly the entire time together alone in the Savage Land. My eyes were open then I was just like how does this happen calling your enemy to spend your last days with him pick up and run off just like that? After that I shipped them hard.

"'gay people prevent men from being friends'' I don't agree with people who say this, you can still be friends with someone and be in a romantic relationship, you don't just stop being friends the minute you date someone, isn't the whole point of a relationship to be based on chemistry ? as in liking each other and doing things together. Also you could make the exact same argument regarding a male and a female, remember how Mulder and Scully where good platonic friends only for the fandom to then basically ship them enough that the show made it cannon.
It’s also such a weird argument because so many of the friendships people think are gay is because their relationship is romance coded. My brother has very close friendships but none of them feel like they would date each other. Guys can be friends but sometimes there’s something else going on too.
To play devils advocate, a lot of men and women think that men/women can’t be “just friends” and there is very little platonic male and female relationships in media. I remember years ago people desperately wanted Steve and Natasha together instead of being platonic.
Honestly it's the other way around. Men are afraid to be friends because they might be seen as gay. If they weren't afraid of being seen as gay, they would be more open with each other.
@@nomisunrider6472 But showing all close male relationships that aren’t strictly family based as romantic does hurt the perception that bros can “act gay” but just be close and its platonic. It’s case by case, if the writers and actors or creators of these characters operated as “secret gays” but couldn’t go the full distance due to higher ups well then clearly those characters are gay. Example is Hannibal was written as gay but the writer developed over time from seeing the chemistry of the actors so they didn’t start off as gay but maybe by the end of the show they were “meant” to be
that movie was actually supposed to be gay and as i was obsessed with that movie as a kid it would have actually changed me if it had been allowed to be gay

To be fair to Good Omens and the way they portay the angels and demons genders (in a way supernatural does not) Crowley is shown specifically presenting as a woman in several different time periods shown in the show. Most notably as the nanny but also in the crucifixion scene and arguably in a few other of the historical scenes shown as well. He presents as male for the period the show focuses mostlty on and that is most likely how the audience reads him yes, but they do go out of their way to explicitly show that he does explicitly present as female several times over the course of history so I don't think its fair to say that Crowley has only functionally experienced life as a man. And I think the show beyond that tries to explicitly get us to not associate the angels and demons bodies with their genders by having traditionally male-coded angels and demons be played by women in several different cases, most notably Beelzebub and Michael, and in their use and nonuse of pronouns for some of the angels and demons. That being said Aziraphale is only shown presenting as male and much of this happens in the background not the main story, but Good Omens clearly made an effort and actually did consider it, while supernatural did not.
And a little plus to all this, in wikipedia we can see that it says that Crowley is genderfluid. (I was so absolutely ieuzgkuygkugcjzu when I realised that).
literally never forget they had footage of mads and hugh kissing on that last scene of season three with hannibal and will on the edge of the cliff and then bryan fuller was like ok we're not using any of that
The one about Sherlock and Watson reminds me of the Honest Trailer episode about Lion King that called Timon and Pumbaa a "same-sex couple" for raising Simba together, immediately followed by "not that there's a problem with that".
Jack and Eric from Boy meets World are literally the, "they were roommates" vine and it's a crime not to speak about them in videos about characters that should be gay.
Thank you thank you thank you so so much for mentioning Good Omens. Like I swear if they had a scene where they just held hands. Crowley would go "Hmmm what's this?" Indicating to their hands. Aziraphale would say "Oh! Its holding hands, human couples do it to show affection." Crowley "I see. It suits us." End scene. And that's it! I swear that would be bare minimum. While keeping in line with their "angels and demons have no labels" As for Xena, it was in the 90s so I can understand to context of the time. Not happy about it but it explains it. Edit: If anyone wants to use this for any fanfiction you have my full permission to use it.
Okay but Neil said he wrote it as a love story, and I see enough pining to be satisfied. But I do hope that if there’s a second season, it’ll be slightly more explicit.
Neil said that he was happy to change his own ideas and smaller things to update good omens while adapting it to a screenplay but was not comfortable making MAJOR changes because of Sir Terry Pratchett’s death rendering him unable to give his approval to any changes.
@Anime Girl Do you ever actually see that happen, or do you just assume it would happen? i know it’s not news at all but for the Think of the Children section, Lance and Keith from voltron legendary defender comes to mind. they were supposed to be endgame and would have been great representation for the kids watching the show (bc even though a lot of teens and adults watched it it was meant for kids) and would’ve been a great thing to see had the writers been allowed to follow through on it. they set it up with pure intent for romance and then had to throw it all away for the studio
not actually sure if klance was ever like an agreed thing they wanted canon - i remember seeing something abt how the showrunners didn’t give a fuck about it (and unrelated but they were also just very vindictive and awful abt several valid complaints people had regarding the show such as the treatment of poc in the show - kind of crazy that i’ll see people say that the showrunners pulling some awful things in the show was to “get back at the fandom” as if grown adults being petty towards a bunch of mostly teenagers is just something that should be celebrated??? i get that fandoms can be awful and the vld fandom sure was but like. really now.) i will say that i’ve also heard that there were some writers on the show who pushed for it in the earlier seasons but nothing came of it as a bunch of the writers were let off/left and were changed as it went on. idk vld was just a huge trainwreck and i’m not sure if all of the factors that lead to its downfall will ever be known
Crowley was supposed to be canonically genderfluid but since they didn't say that and only did it in costuming in like two scenes it's kind of blink and you miss it. I love Good Omens dearly but they really could have done that better.
Both Crowley and Aziraphale are canonically asexual and Neil Gaiman, one of the authors of the book, said that neither of them identify as male, so it's a win
@@jagodadelega8130 I don't know how to feel about that? On the one hand it's great that they tried, and the choice to do that is definitely better than the choice to not do that. @@mythvideos2020 I understand where you're coming from, but Crowley does appear feminine and androgynous multiple times, most notably when he decides to be a nanny (his own choice, so it wasn't a "haha male character in women's clothes what comedy!" moment). Maybe this is just me, but I don't typically announce my sexuality/gender unless asked, and the plot did not ask. It wasn't a story about them, they are just the POV characters watching the end of the world and trying to stop it. It's a visual media, therefore "show, don't tell" and they showed Crowley looking very genderfluid even in the historical outfits. Plus it's in the book that all angels are all agender/asexual unless they make an effort to be something else. Everyone who knows them canonically believes that the two are dating. I know not everyone could read the book, but it's there and it's been canon for over 20 years.
My point wasn't that it isn't canon, or that the existing material is *problematic*. I adore the show and was an enormous fan of the book and it's depiction of angelic gender, etc. My point was just that I wish the casual viewer got a few more signals that that representation is supposed to be there. It's great for fanfiction that these things are canon, and it means a lot to me that they put that in, but in practice a lot of viewers won't even notice. The thing about angelic gender isn't discussed, and the only people who know about it are the people who actively care enough to look. You're definitely right. It's an insulting and to me pretty misongynistic and homophobic trope that a lesbian fall for some man because he's just _so_ great. Homophobic because of the delusion that a lesbian can be made straight if the right man comes along, and misogynistic because of the idea that any woman, even a _lesbian,_ will in some circumstances owe herself romantically to a man. Neil Gaiman actually confirmed that Aziraphale and Crowley's story in the show was a romantic love story, but it can't really be labelled as "gay/bisexual/pansexual" since they technically don't have genders.
Yeah people who say that never say the same thing about romantic-coded friendships between a man and a woman.

Let's be honest. David Tennant can play anything. He's that good
To be fair to Good Omens and the way they portay the angels and demons genders (in a way supernatural does not) Crowley is shown specifically presenting as a woman in several different time periods shown in the show.
(I was so absolutely ieuzgkuygkugcjzu when I realised that).
literally never forget they had footage of mads and hugh kissing on that last scene of season three with hannibal and will on the edge of the cliff and then bryan fuller was like ok we're not using any of that
I'm pretty sure that if we get a season four he's confirmed Hannibal to be pan and Will to be at least questioning!
The one about Sherlock and Watson reminds me of the Honest Trailer episode about Lion King that called Timon and Pumbaa a "same-sex couple" for raising Simba together, immediately followed by "not that there's a problem with that".
"She's, like, more stereotypically... uhh, she wears a lot of leather". You're right and you should say it.
no she isnt
They totally should have shown Faith dominating somebody, lol!
Finn/Poe.....Still Quite Pissed About That.
I think she talked about them in her they should have been gay characters in movies video
omg yes.they wouldve been so cute as a couple
Jack and Eric from Boy meets World are literally the, "they were roommates" vine and it's a crime not to speak about them in videos about characters that should be gay.
Let's be honest, if Topenga wasn't around Shawn and Corey would have hooked up.

Token straight friend. Oh how the turns have tabled.

my favourite example of this while video. I forgot Jesse liked to dress up
Gender fluid
Also wobuffet asexual rights
Thank you thank you thank you so so much for mentioning Good Omens. Like I swear if they had a scene where they just held hands. Crowley would go "Hmmm what's this?" Indicating to their hands.
Aziraphale would say "Oh! Its holding hands, human couples do it to show affection."
Crowley "I see. It suits us."
End scene. And that's it! I swear that would be bare minimum. While keeping in line with their "angels and demons have no labels"
As for Xena, it was in the 90s so I can understand to context of the time. Not happy about it but it explains it.
Edit: If anyone wants to use this for any fanfiction you have my full permission to use it.
That would have been a great GREAT scene, thank you for providing me a new headcannon :)
Its funny coz in my mind i thought good omens had made It canon??? The creators ship it too i think?
Okay but Neil said he wrote it as a love story, and I see enough pining to be satisfied. But I do hope that if there’s a second season, it’ll be slightly more explicit.
@@redacted5078 Neil said he wrote the tv version as a love story!!
Neil said that he was happy to change his own ideas and smaller things to update good omens while adapting it to a screenplay but was not comfortable making MAJOR changes because of Sir Terry Pratchett’s death rendering him unable to give his approval to any changes.
Both Maeve and Otis from Sex Education have massive bisexual energy in different ways
@Anime Girl Bisexual people can love and be in a relationship with someone of the oposite gender... and still be Bi. 🤷🏻♀️
@Anime Girl Do you ever actually see that happen, or do you just assume it would happen? Because idk about you, but I didn't see anyone complaining about Darryl ending up with a woman on Crazy Ex Gf, and that is literally the only example of a canon bi character ending up with someone of a different gender I can think of in TV shows or movies.
@Anime Girl Selfish? The straights are ALWAYS being selfish. Somehow, everyone is ALWAYS heterosexual. Why call us selfish?
Badass Bi versus Chaotic Bi in a nutshell
i know it’s not news at all but for the Think of the Children section, Lance and Keith from voltron legendary defender comes to mind. they were supposed to be endgame and would have been great representation for the kids watching the show (bc even though a lot of teens and adults watched it it was meant for kids) and would’ve been a great thing to see had the writers been allowed to follow through on it. they set it up with pure intent for romance and then had to throw it all away for the studio
not actually sure if klance was ever like an agreed thing they wanted canon - i remember seeing something abt how the showrunners didn’t give a fuck about it (and unrelated but they were also just very vindictive and awful abt several valid complaints people had regarding the show such as the treatment of poc in the show - kind of crazy that i’ll see people say that the showrunners pulling some awful things in the show was to “get back at the fandom” as if grown adults being petty towards a bunch of mostly teenagers is just something that should be celebrated??? i get that fandoms can be awful and the vld fandom sure was but like. really now.) i will say that i’ve also heard that there were some writers on the show who pushed for it in the earlier seasons but nothing came of it as a bunch of the writers were let off/left and were changed as it went on. idk vld was just a huge trainwreck and i’m not sure if all of the factors that lead to its downfall will ever be known
But I do also think it's a bit irrelevant what they *intended* to do if the average watcher who hasn't seen those tweets wouldn't notice the so-called representation.
I mean, I'll take it for the fanfiction though. For the fanfiction, it's a gift.
@@mythvideos2020 yeah, Neil said he wanted to make it more obvious in the show, but didn't feel like it was ok to change Terry Pratchett's writing without discussing it with him, and since he died Neil couldn't do that. It's still ans excuse, bit I kinda get were that's coming from
@@mythvideos2020 I understand where you're coming from, but Crowley does appear feminine and androgynous multiple times, most notably when he decides to be a nanny (his own choice, so it wasn't a "haha male character in women's clothes what comedy!" moment).
I still love the show and am quite happy with what we got, though.
Johnlock brought back memories from a ✨dark time✨ god the BBC sure hates the gays don’t they 🙃

Still sad about the accents in the show
I need a fucking second season when they are showed like a real couple and the word "best friends" doesn't exists. Because in the first one, they called each other "friend" meanwile they clearly flirting. Like, dude, I don't flirt with my friends, I don't start a drama when I want to go off together with my "friend" to Alpha Centauri and he said that he doesn't want to. Just saying.
Emma Swann and Regina from Once Upon a Time would definitely fit into this video.
YES
About the Good Omens bit, I'm quite certain that I read a statement from Neil Gaiman somewhere, in which he stated that he would have like to make it explicit, but since it never came up while writing the book, and since no one can ask Terry Pratchett about it anymore, he didn't wanna do it, since the characters are Pratchetts as much as his
I read the book first and I never imagined them as a romantic couple together, but when I watched it it was implied and I could see it. I dunno I can see them as friends or lovers either way
I’m reading the book right now, and aren’t they mentioned as sleeping together out of convenience at least like really early on?
A
I'm still pissed that the writers of Supernatural gave us THAT instead of truly commiting. Also, Stiles should've been Bi 100000%.
How could you say something so controversial test so brave? Seriously though, Dean and Cas deserved better.
No
Can't imagine how difficult it must have been to decide which star trek characters to include
Kinda tragic of you to not include Spock... the OG gay metaphor character 😔 he deserves an honorable mention it's literally canon that he doesn't like women

He’s asexual. Just like Elsa
I really love Sherlock but it frustrates me so much that being gay is always a joke in it. Or in the case of Irene Adler a lesbian falling in love with a guy. I get that sexual orientation is fluid or whatever (also I'm cis straight so feel free to correct me on stuff) but urghh can't they also have had a not-straight romantic relationship in the series? (Tbh my memory isn't amazing so if there was one please don't come at me) Also there are like no not-white main characters?????
I LOVED that show back in the day. I eventually gave up on it after learning how homophobic Moffat was, which is a shame but explains all the Straight Agenda™️ elements
@@frostyskeletons8950 How is he homophobic?
I mean isn’t that an adaptation problem?
You're definitely right. It's an insulting and to me pretty misongynistic and homophobic trope that a lesbian fall for some man because he's just _so_ great. Homophobic because of the delusion that a lesbian can be made straight if the right man comes along, and misogynistic because of the idea that any woman, even a _lesbian,_ will in some circumstances owe herself romantically to a man.
Sometimes women aren't attracted to you boys, and you do not have the right to say that they should be.
Leave. Them. Alone.
@@arigadatred5395 But then she uses the same trope to argue that men are gender fluid "I'm only a lesbian until I meet the right man and you're only a streight man until you meet the right man" (paraphrasing) The homophobic trope thrown back in its face!
Velma was “not explicitly” gay in the Mystery Incorporated version and even had a girlfriend (after breaking up with Shaggy because Scooby was jealous). The writers also have stated multiple times that the relationship was romantic. They even had the “lover sacrifices themselves” scene between them before her GF got merc’d offscreen by Nazi Robots. (Don’t worry, she and the considerable body count of the show got better- when the universe reset and still kept them gay together.)
What series is that?
Mystery Incorporated.

For some reason I always thought Xena and Gabrielle were canon... Like, legit I was convinced it was explicit in the show.
Also I want to think of Aziraphale and Crawley as a homoromantic asexual relationship and that's my headcanon, leave me alone
They were/are canon. Given the time it’s a bit convoluted, but it’s there. S6 in an episode where they’re reincarnated and have been awakened to the fact they used to be X&G, though X is in a Joxer person’s body, it is explicitly stated that Xena and Gabrielle got married as soon as they remembered who they were.
Also isn’t there a true loves kiss scene between them?
@@cRobin1375 Yup. Xena jumps through a circle of flames through which, explicitly, only Gabrielle’s soulmate can pass, and awakens her true-love’s-kiss style.
Aziraphale and Crowley are canonically asexual
