    You’re supposed to remove the valve core after drilling a hole. Gotta let it decompress. Otherwise it won’t fill in. I’ve called a tire place that does professional foam filling. They said you also have to let all the air out, and “prep” the inside of the wheel and tire. Basically just spray some non-stick Pam on the inside of the wheel, and tire. Otherwise it’ll stick on the wheel and tire, and not fill the whole space at all whatsoever. I’ve done my homework on this. I think I’m ready to do it right now.

      How'd it turn out?

    • @CP-ux9zd
      @CP-ux9zd 3 місяці тому +1

      You’re right... kind of.. He drilled the hole oversized, so air could escape as foam displaced the air. Also by drilling straight into the tread and having the hole on top, tire is completely filled. Whether by skill or luck, it worked great. As far as prepping with pan release spray, I never intend to dismount or see the inside of this thing. It’s a permanent solution.

    Ive done this, worked great at first, didnt last. Over the time the foam compresses and becomes like a flat piece of foam. Makes the job of refoaming and or changing tires very difficult. Does last a lil over a yr though.

    A much simpler easier solution is... Slime has tubes you can put in the tire that has, Slime in it!!! So even if you get a small puncture, it will stay inflated!!! Brilliant. I have them on my Hustlers front tires. Then you still have air, and cushion. And we all know that we need comfort mowing.

    Have you ever seen this type of foam cured? If you haven’t spray some out and after it has expanded and cured see how easy it crushes. It isn’t designed to support any weight or impact it is for filling voids in walls to insulate and to stop drafts.

      @@0077alfie Not true. My old IH 656 experienced 26 flats between new front tires while mowing pasture mixed with multifloral rose and locust trees over a four day time frame. The next set of new tires got filled with foam first from a dealer. The urethane foam was different than the Great Foam used here, being far denser and heavier at 170+ lbs (including the rim) per tire. The ride was rougher, and the curious thing about these foam filled tires were that the tread sort of peeled after just a few years of use, far less than normal air-filled tires.

    One thing you can try. If your tires have tubes that leak. Remove stem, insert a small straw to let air be pushed out. Then put the great stuff straw in beside it. This stuff expands alot so it doesn't really need the entire can. I would squirt some on the ground so you can see how much it expands. This way if flat spots down the road you can remove tire from rim and remove tube without all the foam being stuck to the rim. Then just replace the tube and start over.

    This "fix" is a total waste of time & money. I did add the "Great Stuff" to a front tire on my ZTR mower,, let it set overnight to cure & it went flat. I redid it after adding a couple tablespoons water as GS instructions suggested. I screwed the tire bead to the wheel but that didn't help. It went flat for the second time. I finally mounted a new tire after cutting off the old tire, cleaning up the mess in the wheel, paainting the wheel. Never never put that crap in a tire.

    It doesnt work for weight carrying tires like my Craftsman lawn tractor. The big gap foam dont work as good as the small gap and the small gap doesnt work. The only chance of it working is if the side walls are strong enough to support the weight. There are foams that work but not the Great Stuff. Has to be a rubber type. Not sure what it would cost but heavy duty tire shops can fix you up.

    Great Stuff is a liquid inside the can because there is no air to evaporate the solvents. In order for it to cure or harden it must be exposed to a large volume of air. This allows the solvents to dissipate as the product expands. When sprayed in small holes in a tire mounted on a rim, guess what? Very little exposure to air, so as it expands it shoots all the product back thru the hole(s). Then, it hardens all over your wheel on the outside. I speak from experience...
