Fun fact: in Japanese Koke means “moss” and dama (tama) means “ball”. 😛

FUN PROJECT SUGGESTION: I love picking up glass candy dishes (with lids) from thrift stores and using them as propagating terrariums.... they are cute on a shelf or counter even when all you see is the sphagnum... plus then its a more artistic way to actually display props and see daily progress

Loved the higher pitched "I don't know what I am doing" I felt the same way when mounting my first stag horn ferns. Now I want to try this, because, you're right, they are cute! Thanks for the tutorial.

I did a class at my fav plant store and we used fishing line and wrap FOREVER so don't snip the ends, just use more line to hold it together and keep shaping and wrapping. We also did a bit of soil in the center, they said it held a little more moisture than just moss, dunk it to water and squeeze out excess. Mine started out as a monstera deliciosa from a 4 in pot, she started rooting out the bottom (mine didn't hang so no self-pruning) 2 years later she was huge and in a 12 in pot. Use a larger moss ball with the idea that the plant will fill it in and then maintain itself at a certain size.

I tried kokedama with an orchid. I got so sick of having to take it down and water every 3 days because the moss drys so fast. More power to you if you can keep up with them

Love!! If you wanted to extend the hook length, just knot some additional wire at the base of the already made hook and create a new longer hook! Love the inspo and they came out looking adorable

This is what I think. You inspired me so much that I grabbed my spaghnum moss and props and made a kokedama before I even finished your video. I used green florist wire because I have it on hand. Worked great. I really didn’t need another plant addiction. Thanks a lot Harli. 😉😂
    Good job! Great video!

Harli, your not stupid we are learning with you I have wanted to try making one and now I will. I think you did a grate joy they are so cute. Go to the dollar store and get some extender hooks . You can also tension rods the plants are not heavy and it could hold a lot. I love seeing the chickens your moms are getting big to so cute.

I made one with a saxifraga stolonifera that QUICKLY got out of hand lol Just a big ol' tangly mess 😅 But the spathophyllum/p. Hederaceum combo is growing in AMAZINGLY
Such a great video 🙌❤ It's totally OK to put in multiple plants, including different types of plants. Moss alone is OK as long as you feed it but I know you know this lol.
Traditionally speaking, there may be a 'right' way to wrap it as far as the design/pattern but mostly it's about the esthetic, as with most of Japanese art. It's to invoke peaceful feelings and the appreciation of the simple beauty in nature, etc.
And just like plant care in general, if it works for you, then run with it! There are infinite ways to accomplish the same goal and everyone should use the methods that work for them ❤

Try using a turkey net (from a frozen turkey), with the moss it doesn't really show, then you can add wire to frame it and add a hook, looks really good!

Honestly, kokedamas have not interested me until this moment. You made them look so cute and doable! What a great quick project idea. If you want them down a little lower in the window, I find that those cheap S hooks work great to add the little extra length subtlety? I’m looking forward to seeing the updates! Keep us posted! 💕

I love your Kokedamas! I can have a huge hanging plant without soil & pots! I love how you dive into a project and it always comes out perfect!
Display ideas, 1. I purchased “adhesive screws” super sticky ashesive pads with a built in bolt and “hung” clear acrylic shelves in my windows. I really watch the weight on each shelf, so no more than 5 lbs per shelf 2. Expandable curtain rods for windows, over my kitchen sink and a recess in my wall. 3. Nano Tape aka Alien Tape to hang flat back hooks. Alien Tape works better than command adhesive.
    4. Wire Mesh cubbies. I bought a shoe organizer and put it together. Plants get light at all angles and I can put 1-3 plants per 12”x12” shelf.
All the cute things I have for hanging and display and I still have a full side on my kitchen counter full of plants. I need a 2 bedroom apartment instead of my 400 sq ft studio !!

I saw Bengi on his channel where he made a kokedama then he hung it from the inside top of a clouche with a suction sup with fish line. It was so beautiful! I have a small clouche with an open style metal top. I’m going to hang a small kokedama in there. It’s gonna be so cool (I’m pretty sure!)

i plant the plant with veeery chonky soil, mostly bark and sow thin geotextile fabric to hold it together. Then take moss and tie it around with fishing line. A LOT of fishing line. Works best with epiphytes.

So happy to see you excited!Whenever I have something like this project or I need to tie a plant to a plank, (or elsewhere)..I use the stretchy elastic clear string for jewelry. It works like a charm! And if the plant grows bigger or needs to get through there it doesn't cut it off in any way. Agree that wire probably helps this process though..and you get a hook🤗😁

you could hang twine or fishing line loops from the rod at desired length to hook the wire into. Moss does tend to dry out really fast though unless you are in tropics. ( I am in subtropical Australia so constant watering required here) I feel they could be good with a drip/ misting irrigation system to keep them hydrated, however this makes a simple design, more complicated lol.

I want to do this now!! I have so much space for hanging plants and I’ve never tried it. I think it would be cool to make a small terrarium out of old thrifted picture frames. Using the wood from the frame as the base, and then the glass as the actual terrarium cover part. Maybe a project you and Ryan could do together 🥺

You can always add an extension to your wire with another piece of wire to make it longer. Their very cute though! I just wish I had more places to hang plants, so difficult without putting a lot of holes in your ceilimg.

Great Idea and I like the experimentation. I've done something similar once and now may extend the idea. Made an 18 inch moss pole (no pot) and attached some cutting of Hoya curtisii to it. I'm hoping it eventually covers the entire pole. Think it would work well with other Hoya like mathilde and serpens. Could also try Dischidia nummularia. Might even try making a three foot moss pole and putting several different plants on it. Of course all those plants could work with the Kokedama as well.

The final step where you're trimming the moss - all I can think of is those bikini trimmer commercials with the topiary 😂
Cute idea! I would 100% fall behind/forget and let those dry out too much though lol. Definitely not as cute, but I might try this with a liner of plastic wrap to contain the moss, maybe try to twist the wire to attempt some design since it might show up more.
Now I'm thinking you could add beads to the wires!
Thanks for inspiring planty creativity today 💚

These kokedamas are AMAZING ☺ FOR REAL especially cause they're DIY *Thank You* "even though this is the first time i see it gets made 😅" but they are gorgeous, and don't twist the wire so fast when you make the hook bend it slowly cause you know it's gonna gets cut, and it's obviously not boring it's fun and creative, and if you want of course make a video half of it showing us the chickens and their everyday routine and the other half about the plants or all about the chickens you know be creative as always, and please don't get mad at the dog cause of his loud breathing sound "I know that everything is stressful" but he can't help it and I'm sure he's trying his best to not to annoys you so please go easy on him, thank you for everything Harli 👋✌
Oh and after winter comes and ends grow your own vegetables outside (there are some veges that could be grown at January 1st) and till then I'll give you all the tips and tricks of growing vegetables or fruits outside (fruits takes a long time to produce about at least a year like figs apples lemons .. ETC) i meant by apples and lemons that you could grow them in a huge containers "not in the ground" to make them dwarf trees and that way they produce faster of course or you can graft some cuttings into any big trunk and much more I'll tell you about till then IF YOU WANT TO OF COURSE, NOW BYEEEEE
