- After 52 hooks it is time to move on to some more variety for our Sunday morning videos. This final hook is inspired by the Devils Blacksmith Project, although on a much smaller scale.

Like many people I am now anxiously waiting to see what new projects will take the place of this old and comfortable friend. I guess you could say you left us on tenterhooks John.
I appreciate your honesty about the "OOPS" moments. Too many chanels, in every craft, edit their videos to make it look as though they never mess up.
On this hook, great to wrap the series with a more decorative hook. The only thing I might do different, when my skill progresses to being able to do a similar hook, would be to split the hook end into two hooks. This would make it a five-point piece. And would make it a wanted piece to the Wicken community as well as those who just love decorative "iron" work. As is, it could be manuvered to a more Christian cross shaped piece. So many ideas, too little time and funding. Heck, I have not even had the opportunity to build/aquire the most basic of blacksmithing forge set ups.
This is definitely something I would like to try and have a go at.
Luckily, if I ever do get started even as a hobby, I have channels like yours to fall back on for instruction and ideas.

Thomas, good day Sir, Crawford here. If i may, the most basic and easily obtained forge would be a dirt box forge. Pretty basic and fairly rudimentary. On a raised platform one could start with a recycled pallet or 2x6s. Some dirt of the surrounding area. A peice of non galvanized pipe or pipe with the galvanized layer stripped off in vinegar. And lastly a hair dryer or vacume cleaner or even simple hand bellows made from 2 boards and the leg of a pair of old blue jeans, perfurably waxed plus a piece of rubber type material say from a bicycle innertube as a flapper to draw air in the intake hole and seal to push out the spout.
Nuttin fancy "Has" to be done to get fire. Lump charcoal from Walmart or a place that sells it in your area. Any smooth faced hammer will move steel and something rigid to hit said steel on. It does not "have" to be an Anvil!! ( My 1st project was done on a 6x8in piece of 3/16" plate laid on table) drew out 3/8"round into fish tail and scrolled it up to make a hook! No punch so i rounded the end into an eye for a bolt. Hey it worked.

How Awesome would it be to watch along on a great hinge?!?!?! Would be a most impressive addition on the door entering your smithy IMHO. Something you would be proud to see every day as you go to work. Or at least i would if i had an actual smithy. Sorry if i said to much.

A good way to finish the series. I wish my parents still lived in their castle. I'd have them commission you to do decorative work. When the house was built in 1928 they had a forge set up in the courtyard for all the hinges, latches, and other iron work. Google Hume Cloister in Berkeley California. Sadly I never lived there.
Well, all good things come to an end. 52weeks is a long commitment. Thanks for sticking with it.

Thank you for the videos that you make. Watching and listening to you has taught me quite a bit. I just did my first forging. I made a railroad spike knife. I had the spike around, and I was itching to make something. I used a brake rotor, galvanized pipe, a floor connector( to attach them together), and a hair dryer. I used hardwood charcoal for fuel. The knife came out ok considering that I don't have tongs and it was my first project. Thanks again.

I really enjoy watching your channel, l am just a beginner Smith and don't get to the forge as much as l would like. Mostly because of the fact that l retired a year ago a d had a long list of projects. Last summer l built a 14 x16 blacksmith shop so the could get all the smithing tools out of my machine- wood working - welding- car repair shop. Just keep doing what you're doing, l personally love it.
I always thought I would have more time after I retired, but it seems like there is still never enough time to get it all done.

I enjoyed the hook of the week, which was originally started to make use of a bucket of odds n ends that otherwise would've been scrapped! As with all good things one must end to make room for more, waiting to see what else John has in mind for us to learn from...

I have enjoyed the hook of the week and although I would love to see more of the same I am looking forward to new projects with varied styles. I suppose you had to end the hook of the week because all the scrap buckets are empty. Just kidding, there is never an end to scrap buckets, just like my woodworking shop that has a never ending piles of scrap wood.
As you say, there are plenty more buckets of scrap. Just need to add some more variety to the projects.

There were a lot of great hooks, but yeah, I like the decoritive elements, the welding, and the hook itself most of all the hooks. Great finally hook, for sure.

What a Superb Hook as a finaly to John's amazing one year long Hook of The Week series....Of course we will miss it but look forward to watching his new projects...For me it signifies my next years projects as a newby trying to follow in his footsteps a little re-creting some of these and improvising my own ideas as a spin off. I'm thinking the 52 videos have maybe 250 to 300 important lessons John is very kindly sharing with us......I just want to say a VERY BIG Personal Thank You John for sharing all this (and more) with us and for all the lessons you give us.

Made my first hook from your series just yesterday. Sad to see that the series is coming to an end but a goal now that I'll be able to work my way through the whole series and make the lot. This is an excellent resource and I'd love to see other themed playlists in a similar style over the coming years.

I'm kinda sad that HOTW is concluded now as a series, but I am excited to see what episodes and series act as it's successors. Maybe Mastermyr Mondays might become a thing when all chores are settled? Maybe we could do Hinge of the Week instead? Who knows!

Hook Of The Week has been a blast to watch, I hope you'll kind of stick with the "scrap bucket challenge" approach even if the focus is no longer going to be on hooks exclusively. Part of the beauty of blacksmithing to me is turning what that most people would just consider a useless piece of scrap into something useful or pretty(or both).
