Amazing to watch. The speaker looked beyond salvage at the start and these craftspeople made it perfect! So much skill and so much done by hand! Brilliant work!!!
Take it from someone that has had JBL, Altec and ElectroVoice reconing training at the factories, this was exceptionally well done. I'd love to know where they got an edgewound voice-coil made! That's the secret to JBL, Altec and E-V as well. That edgewound voice-coil is why all three are at least 3dB more effficent than almost any other type of speaker (with the possible excptions of Cetec, Gauss and Stephens-Trusonic and certain Peavey speakers which had edgewound coils as well.). I'm afraid those days are gone forever now with the bulk of speakers cheaply mass-produced in China. These folks did a really fine job, right down to the original style vented dust cap.
What about someone like AudioFrog today? I don't know anything about speakers/sound, but I recently have put some money into a car system that I hope will end up sounding really good once I can finish it up by getting a DSP and Tweeters. This definitely looks like a lost art to the USA. Even the AudioFrog speakers that I purchased are made in China. China's issue isn't that they make everything low quality nor that they don't know quality. China's issue is that you have to be on-top of their quality, or they will cut corners any way they possibly can. On top of that, the companies that use China will try to cut all of the corners possible also. I ran a small business and used China manufacturing. It is possible to have a quality product made in China. The issue will be finding a lot of people who are willing to pay the price you will need to charge for the quality.
Everyone use edgewound ribbon voice coil by now, and 95% of them are made in Asia, including Precision Ecowind USA. It was a secret of JBL in the 70's.
I think no need to send it to factories. it can be done who has know how to repair speaker. in my country repair of speakers was being done in the street of RAON QUIAPO Manila Philippines.
Only people that work on audio speakers can truly appreciate the level of detail and craftsmanship exhibited. What a beautiful job. The techniques and skill are next level Wayne Gretzky pinnacle of performance.

Amazing this restoration and well deserving for the almost 2 million views (as of April 2022). The speaker at the start of the video looked as though it had been left out in the rain/wind/elements. Congratulations on your work!
Totally amazing...I bet some of the old guys from Altec and JBL who have seen this are saying to themselves "those boys are good" and they'd be right. Good old fashioned hand tools, a steady hand and a good parts source. I am seriously impressed.
Great work by a truly gifted craftsman. Wish you had added some more explanations about : - the products used on each step, glues etc. - the work done to refresh the internal and external surfaces where the coil moves into. Obviously the width of this gap must be as little modified as possible, but the surfaces must be made perfectly smooth again, so it’s certainly one of the most delicate steps. Other than that, a wonderful restoration of a speaker that most people would have thought to be destroyed beyond any hope of repair !! 👍👍👍
I accidentally subscribed. Now I am glad I did. It's been decades since I held a vintage speaker, and to see how beautifully this one was brought back, has brought back happy memories. Keep up the good work.

Very nice restoration process, congratulations ! However, a rebuilt like this (or any other speaker) does not guarantee that the speaker will sound like the original one - materials will never be the same, specially decades later! There are many variables that influence final performance: wire thickness, copper purity and resistance; total coil weight; cone paper quality & thickness; quantity of glue applied.... and the list goes on with other minor details. Sometimes the speaker gets better than the original one since some modern materials can be better. But what matters here is the the restoration process, which was fully accomplished, thanks for sharing !

Old Altec Lansing speakers are the best, they sound great. I have 2 pre 80's, one meter high, stereo speaker boxes that sounds great with a 180 Watt amplifier when playing 45 rpm vinyl and LP 33 rpm records on a turntable. The tall speaker boxes have 2 x 10 inch bass speakers, 2 x 6 inch mid range and 2 x 4 inch tweeters each, boasting beautiful, rich, natural sound. 😀
I threw my speakers together way back in 1978. Speaker box size is 812H x 520W x 407D. They each contain one 15" woofer, two mid-range, and four tweeters. Plus they are mirror images of each other rather than identical. I have only had to replace the outer foam ring for each woofer. Total cost was $27 CAD.
Wow... truly remarkable craftmanship! Awesome to watch. I can't figure out how the voice coil gets aligned so precisely that it doesn't get scraped by the magnet. I thought there'd have to be some sort of precision jig to align the parts when gluing them down.

IDK If I'd call the older speakers 🔊 beautiful sounding? LMAO but they are definitely works of art by how their constructed and their simplicity of how well made they were! But some of them do sound really nice and I've had some Blaupunkts in a HiFi which sounded better than some modern designed speakers 🔊that I can definitely give credit to lol!
Hi Jim we value all opinions. About what is good and best I think it goes back to how people experience hearing from a speaker. Have a nice day. Thank You
Well, people vote with their wallets and quite often they buy old equipment like this or by MacIntosh, Crown, etc... or in the guitar world Marshall, Fender, etc... and apparently the prevailing opinion is that there's something to be said for the old school products compared to what's made today. Not saying I agree... but I can't help but say I was wondering how much they wanted for that speaker by the time it was all finished!!
In 1974 I worked for Altec in OKC, they bought University Sound . I worked on the 300 ton power press stamping steel for the magnet assy. It was the Only Union job I've ever had. Making $3.65 an hour.
Nice restauration, its good to see good things can have a second life ! (Love that!) The way quality of old materials is in most cases better then modern. The only thing I can give you advice on is your safety, not using cloves, glases or mouth gear will cause you harm in the long run, also safely disgard chemicals to protect nature. Keep up the nice work and "Play-In" those puppies well ! Maybe hard to find matching pairs ;)

The size and mass of that alnico magnet is nothing short of amazing. The magnet of a typical alnico guitar loudspeaker is a fraction of the size.
It's inside magnet, not outer ring, as you can see at the opening. Also the driver use 76mm coil, thus field gap, while guitar driver us 38mm coil.

Beautiful restoration on this speaker! They use these in movie theaters and guitar amps! Very powerful and could take a lot of power as well!
Terbaikla kawan..dapat buat kembali...ok sdh di hitam ya..support sama👍🤝
Konten nya pak eko Makin hari Tambah keren 👍👍
I love seeing these videos where no one has to talk us through the steps. The skill level is superb.
And no music !
It is always nice to see the restoration of old equipment, rather than disassembly for scrap. Good luck to you!
Thank you
