Zane's character development is INCREDIBLE. It feels so natural and rewarding. I also loved seeing how his dad suddenly showed his soft side when Zane finally drew the line and walked away. Redemption arc done right, everyone.
One thing I love about season 1 is how it connects so many different storylines, they all happen on their own but heavily impact each other to push the overall story along and create an intense final.

One of my favorite episodes. Showcasing how evil the world can be, giving us a glimpse of exactly what the girls were afraid of and what they spent so much of their time trying to do and what the writers consistently kept writing about: keeping their secret. People can't handle what they don't know. As soon as something out of the ordinary happens, all humanity is thrown out the window. The girls are treated like freaks instead of sentient human beings (well, half human) like they are themselves. It's the kind of conflict that leaves you shook. It even has the most important references: the "just add water" and the heart in the sand...

after seeing this,i realize there were a lot of things that the girls could do with their powers to defend themselves and instead they just stay in the water waiting for themselves to get taken,i honestly think they should have shown more of their powers in this episode,there was a good excuse for it,but oh well,it was still good

Well technically all three girls could be a murder, Emma can freeze ppl which is enough to kill a body and rikki could set people on fire. Also in season 2 they got their powers upgraded and they can make natural disasters.

I have literally watched this show since I was 7 when my dad found it and showed it to me. I am now 15 and have probably seen this series all the way through about 8 times, and goin on 9. This is truly my comfort show and I don't care how old I am this will always be my favorite show and it will always be comforting to watch, I will always watch it when im sick or when I get scared by another show. You guys have done a terrific job. WELL DONE I LOVE THIS SHOW WITH ALL MY HEART.
I am a 21Yr old man who just watched a whole season of this show for girls, over the past week. I must say that I wish that I had watched this, as a kid, because this was quite good and it definitely holds up. The writing’s not perfect but it’s above that of other kid shows, even nowadays. There’s a surprising amount of plot progression, even if it’s mostly “monster of the week” and characters having arcs is really something you don’t see unless it’s super generic and from a trait which is then never brought up again - like they’re trying to force a moral of the story into the faces of the kids watching it. >Rikki (best girl) learns to open up more and be more morally upstanding and her relationship with Zane is adorable. >Cleo has some generic ones, mostly for being the main protagonist, they’re nice nonetheless. >Emma learns some confidence but arcs the least. >Lewis learns the importance of faith and starts putting friends over science. >Zane’s faceturn was kind of predictable from the beginning of the series but it was his involvement with Rikki, his father and chasing the mermaid, which really fleshed him out. It at the very least justified his A-holery, in the first few episodes. Even minor characters seem to get some form of development. The sets are all varied, colourful and memorable - even if they overuse the Juicenet café. The underwater sets are especially well done. There are very very few plot holes or moments which you’d ask “why didn’t character X do Y”. There is good sense of lore being feed through each episode and about the nature of mermaids and the powers. It’s very fast passed, too. The soundtrack is nice and adds to each scene - nicely composed. As for negatives: >CGI was clearly painfully 2007 but I can’t blame it for that. In fact the only really bad CGI are the fast traveling mermaid scenes. The mermaid powers and Maco island establishing shots aren’t too bad, I’d say. There is definitely worse and it’s clear that a lot of effort went into non-CGI scenes like the basic swimming with fish kind of stuff and generally a lot of underwater scenes. Really immersing. >Lewis needs a hug. He does so much for the girls and he’s always pushed around and treated meanly by them. Like at the end of this episode and lots of other times, where I just wanted them to stop. Yeah, there’s banter and times where Lewis does mess up/get the girls worried that he’s going to spill the beans but most of the time, they need to thank him more, for everything. >Acting. For most part it’s okay or even great but it can be a flat and emotionless - *looks at Lewis.* Did they not do multiple takes of characters talking? >Episode plots are kind of predictable. Very rarely, was I surprised or had something which I couldn’t see coming occur. “Will Lewis betray the group, in episode 8?” “Was it the sneaky and evil Angela who actually stole the pelican?” “Was Miriam actually frozen to death?“ ”It’s the third full moon and only Rikki hasn’t been affected by it yet; is it her turn?”. These are all things which I asked myself sarcastically, with an eye roll, while watching. Other than those things, this has been a great viewing experience and I will gladly watch season 2 (and maybe 3, if it holds up). Also the theme song is kickass - I know understand why the girls in my class were pretend swimming, at break time.

It really confused me how they were acting like Zane betrayed them... as if he knew they were mermaids. He didn't even have time to process the information or even confront Rikki about gaslighting him
I watched the first episode of this a few days ago, thinking, "I'll only watch one episode", and here I am at the end of season 1 lol. This show is just as good as I remember.
That was a great end to a fantastic season there were a lot of happy and funny moments a bunch of sad moments and moments that seemed like a solution was impossible it was all great to watch I love this show and now it’s on to season 2!

That was a great end to a fantastic season there were a lot of happy and funny moments a bunch of sad moments and moments that seemed like a solution was impossible it was all great to watch I love this show and now it’s on to season 2!
